Need some help with some important decisions

Its definitely something which varies like mad depending on where you live. Where I used to live, renting was so much cheaper than a mortgage. Mainly cos everyone had jumped on the buy-to-let bandwagon and the market was flooded with houses to rent. It was a buyers choice - you could have your pick of where you wanted to rent and rental prices kept falling in order to be competitive. One of my friends actually did a buy-to-let for 2 years in the same city and in the end sold up as the house prices were falling and the rent he was getting did not even cover the interest only mortgage on the house - let alone maintenance costs. Having just checked sold house prices for this area, they have fell by 25% over the last 12 months. On the other hand, I have another friend who lives in a different part of the UK and she is buying houses like there's no tomorrow and renting them out - so I can only assume in her location that the rental income is more than covering the cost of a mortgage & maintenance else it would make a very unwise investment. -

For me this is a no brainer. What I did in the same situation was to sell the impractical car and buy an economical "sensible" car. That allowed me to save a lot of money each month which I could use to either buy or rent a house. The rent vs buy argument is a tough one. Ive done both and didnt really notice any difference. If you rent then your landlord has to fork out for all the expensive house repairs and if the housing market drops (like its doing atm) then you dont loose out. If you buy, then you have to have a big deposit, risk loosing money on the market and are liable for any repairs etc. I moved house earlier in the year and worked out that over the last 10 years of owning my own house I would have been better off renting and saving the rest of the cash in the bank. Id have made more money on bank`s interest rates than the return I got from the property market going "up". Good luck on that. I looked into the same thing and all the insurance companies wanted around £500 for me to insure a "second car" on a multi car policy. For me, that meant there was no real benefit to having a shed as a second car when you have to factor in £500 insurance, roadtax, MOT, tyres, servicing etc... -
Hmmm.. does that mean mines rare then cos its an 07 HR ?!

That will only work in the US mind you on the 4s.

Yep! Dry joints are very common problems. My brother used to repair electronic stuff for a living and 9/10 times that was what the problem was with any video, dvd, tv etc... -
Im pretty sure when i looked at the figures for my 1999 stock R1 they were supposed to be able to do 186mph! We weren't at full speed and there were 2 of us on the bike. 174 mph was quick and dangerous enough seeing as we were going over a few humps in the road making the bike jump a bit, I was literally sh*tting myself! My mate (the owner) claims it goes past the 200 mark. That makes sense seeing as it had a few modifications carried out on it. I think it would take A LOT of modifications to get a road R1 over 200mph, from what ive seen 190 is fairly achievable, but over 200 needs serious h.p. It's game of diminishing returns, as the speed rises, air resistance gets stronger and stronger (bikes are crap at aerodynamics) so you need more and more power for each step up in speed. Also, im talking about actual speed, as a lot of bikes clocks are miles out. Yeah the bikes clock itself is well out. When I had my Ducati 748SPS, i fitted a mountainbike speedo to it, and the bikes speedo was about 10->15% out at anything over 120mph. If the stock 1999 R1 does 186mph apparently, with what, 130bhp? I wonder how much power you would need to get just 14mph more out of it. You are right about air resistance - have you seen the fastest wheelie challange before? They do over 200mph wheelies on bikes with no fairing. Of course, they are usually turbo charged with around 300 odd bhp. And the riders must be some sort of nut-cases with testicles the size of an elephants.

welcome, hope all goes well with the new screen.

Im sure 200 is pretty easy on them if they are tuned up a bit, mine does 115mph in 2nd gear. Have to say id not want to be doing 200mph on a bike however, im pretty sure ive more than used up my 9 lives at one time or another. I remember years back seeing 178mph showing on my zxr750 and I was neck & neck with a mate on a 1991 Fireblade who was also flat out (in germany) and that was scary enough.

Sad day indeed. Hopefully your next car will be as much fun!

I looked at the options and figured if im going to pay higher road tax i may as well go for the 313 engine`d one and get my moneys worth! -
welcome!

313Bhp, Really????? and don't look at this car....
rabbitstew replied to Zugara's topic in 350Z General
Id say its a 2006 model which was sitting around for a long time before registered. For that money you could get a 313 convertible. -
Trolley jack & axle stands is what ive always used. Ive some ramps (not suitable for the zed), but ive never used them on any of my cars. Its more hassle than its worth trying to drive on them. Id rather just jack the car up, stick stands under it and know its nice & safe.

That made me really laugh!!!!

Welcome!

that is brilliant. My cat could draw better than that. Does the guy really think he will even get £2.99 for it?!?!!!
-
Why do you need ramps? I just use a jack under the side of the car - if its too low, then i lift the car up whilst the missus sticks the jack under. Another trick ive used is the ramps the council helpfully leave around - otherwise known as kerbs & driveways. Sometimes you can just drive the car up a kerb and use that as a ramp.

I wouldn't get too excited mate, there's been many false dawns with this one. I'm still a holder but am not expecting any massive share price jump on the back of PL's update (but happy to be proved wrong!). Id agree with that. If its anything positive then the shares will drop i expect!

For those people moaning about the boot capacity. Ive the roadster and my boot has got to be 1/2 the size of the coupe`s easily! Have to say, the only time ive had a problem is when ive been to tescos shopping and i realised i couldnt stand a box of cornflakes up vertically in the boot otherwise the boot wouldnt shut. So, I just use the missus`s car for the weekly shopping trips and moving scrap metal (as per the spider living in car thread). For day-to-day use the zed`s boot is fine! EDIT: As an edit, I say the roadsters boot is small, but you can also use the space under the lid which opens up for when the roof is down for storing stuff, and its surprising what stuff you can put in there. I think its all about what type of bags you use.

Your not the only one whose ill mate. Ive also been struck down with the worse cold / flu ive ever had. Been like it for over 2 weeks now and no signs of it easing up. Normally if i get a cold its a 2 day thing and I battle through it, but whatever ive caught this time has really knocked it out of me.
