Thats mad that they would say that. Even back then nokia were ahead of the game on smartphones with the symbian operating system, emails on phones, web browsing and all that kind of thing. Even with the nokia communicator and things like that being really early smartphones with proper keyboards etc.. Just goes to show how stupid some ceo`s and people are.

Bonnet looks ace - like mine! Not sure about that fuel cap sticker...

Tarmac - this might be applicable to you http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/additional/fi ... ations.pdf Its saying after 2001 its illegal to sell cats unless they are stamped as approved etc...

Another grey one! They are getting really common now! Welcome!

Mine do, some over here don't... I have done on the website, didn't want to take any risks in this age of blame culture and lawsuits. Thats fair enough, id do the same! Ive just spent the last half an hour googling and checking what the laws are. From what I can see there is actually no law saying you have to have a cat on your car. As far as the MOT is concerned its more to do with emissions. The rules relating to this vary depending on how old the car is. For cars before 1975 its actually just a visual check to see if any smoke from exhaust. Then for other years the test gives various different emission amounts which the car must be under. Before 1993 its less strict, but after 1993 the tolerance is a lot less and is as such that you are unlikely to be able to pass it without a cat on the car. But, the MOT itself doesnt say you have to have a cat. This emissions thing is also what the police or VOSA can test for - same as checking for bald tyres etc.. if your emissions are over what is regarded as "road worthy" then your car is flagged as not road worthy and you have to correct it. It also actually all goes on the year of the engine, and not the car. So, if you had some 1970 banger but fitted a 2010 engine in it, then you`d have to comply with the emissions specified for something made in 2010.
-
Its all from my memory from when I looked into it before. Theres all sorts of stuff on google about this last time I looked. The thing with VOSA testing your car on the roadside is more to do with emmisions rather than cats. So, even if you had cats and your car was pumping out smoke you`d still get a fine. Do suppliers mark them for off road use only? I know in some countries it is illegal to remove cats, so maybe they want to cover their backs for that. I also know the "not for road use" which akropovic put on my titanium race exhaust system for my R1 was only put on there because it made it louder than a certain dB reading so they needed to cover their backs on that too. Thats more to do with the engine fueling rather than the particle filter. Ive noticed no end of audi`s and beemer diesels kicking out black smoke, and yet on my VW golf it made no difference in that area when I replaced the cat with a bit of old pipe. (only reason I did it was cos the old cat fell apart and I couldnt afford the cost of a new one).

There was uproar in my local paper about my local council doing just this. They let some of their top guys retire early, gave them a big pension payout lump sum, then the next day had them back in at more money as contractors. I actually know some teachers who have exactly the same thing.
-
Nope even they're not safe. My mums worked for DWP in many guises over the years (30+ years) and they are trying to downsize her dept and doing the same with many others. Yep, a lot of councils and places are chopping things about a bit, but 30 years in a job is still very good and shows it was reasonably secure for a long time. What puzzles me about councils is that they will happily make an employee redundant, then recruit them back as a contractor for more money! Well in all fairness Nokia was right. When the iphone came out it had phone related features which were akin to a 10 year old nokia. You couldnt set your own mp3 ring tone, couldnt send MMS, didnt have 3g, the camera was something like 2mb compared to the 5mb which nokias had, no memory card, no front camera, couldnt change the battery, bluetooth would only work on some accessories etc. etc... the list was endless. The only thing the iphone had going for it was that you could link it up to the itunes store. I remember I had a nokia at the time and I just copied my mp3`s straight to its memory card and played music that way as I had converted all my music collection to mp3`s years earlier - but if you were an ipod user and had invested a lot of time & money in buying tunes in itunes it was easier to just get an iphone and just sync it all.

Im pretty sure it was all cars built after 1993 which had a cat fitted from new had to have one for its MOT when I looked into it last. I know when I had a mini cooper, it was a 1990 and whilst it came with a cat, it was perfectly legal for me to throw it away and the MOT man was happy. MOT`s are just a test to see if a car is road legal at that moment in time. Its no offense at all not to have a cat on a car and drive it about. So, (like loads of owners), you can put the cats on for the mot, then take them off afterwards and be perfectly legal. In fact you could MOT your car, the next day swap the engine for a jet engine with no exhaust and drive that about for 12 months and your MOT will still be valid. Of course, other factors such as having a loud exhaust over a certain dB could get you done for noise polution etc.. Or if your car is chucking out tons of black smoke then the police can do you for that etc... As a side note if you have a diesel, there is no requirement to have a cat (or particle filter) fitted, and you can happily throw it away and be fine for your MOT`s.

Doesnt the belts have an auto tensioner on them, or is it just on my HR engine it has that?

It is a shame but unfortunately job security is a thing of the past these days and has been for as long as i can remember. The only areas which seem to have job security are government or local council type jobs. Ive friends who have worked for my local council here for 20 years or more. They love it, extra days holiday per year, guarenteed pay rise each year, flexi time etc. Unfortunately in the private sector, my job history has always been very up and down. I must have been made redundant at least 3 times with companies folding or making cut backs over the last 18 years of working, so the old days of a "job for life" have long gone for most people. It is a shame to see Nokia downsizing, I grew up on Nokia phones when they were the best around. I remember there operating system & menus were so much easier to use than the competitions. I think where they fell over is that they kept trying to champion Symbian long after it came clear it was on its way out. Had they moved to using Android sooner, maybe that would have helped. But, what impressed me about Nokia, they had the bottle to make some really weird looking phones, as well as their more sensible ones.

Its gunmetal grey rather than silver! Ive not driven the tintop version. On paper from the reviews I read, the roadster is heavier due to the extra strengthening, so its slightly slower off the mark, but handling wise Nissan did such a good job of the strengthening that apparently theres very little difference between the coupe & the roadster. Mines not for sale, at least not until autumn next year. Although, I worked out yesterday that its costing me £800 a month to run, so depending upon how things go I may have to sell sooner. Ive not seen another roadster yet on the roads around Cambs, so i will have to have a look at Pistonheads! -
The answer is yes, unless you have told them about it. Technically they could be seen as a performance modification and they could say this invalidates your insurance. Depending on which insurance company he is with, he may as well tell them he has changed the exhaust.

If its not leaking it and no sludge under the cap then it could indeed be the head gasket blown. Same thing happened on my missus`s car and it slowly started using more and more water until it got to the point where it was using 1litre of water every 10miles. Pressure test usually helps narrow it down.

To make it more aggressive, jack the back end up by 1ft and put flames down the side of it?

In my local paper earlier this week police were cracking down on some cyclists because there was an increase in the number of cyclists who put their lights on the wrong way around. i.e. red at front and white at back.... doh!!!

I did wonder why the avator had changed! Thought for a minute you had gone back to a zed!
-
Shouldnt have laughed but I did. Ive done a couple of similar silly things.... I actually drove a mini over my own feet before. Now before you ask how I managed that, I had just fitted a bigger carb to it, so had the bonnet off and was standing near the drivers front wing. I thought id crank it over to see if it started, so reached in through the drivers window and turned the key. The car was in gear and drove nicely over my feet - luckily I had safety boots on. Now I always make sure the cars out of gear.....
-
Result, and will look sweet with that bodykit!

Ive only seen about 6 other zeds since getting mine back in March, but I always flash or wave at them. I find its a 50/50 mix as to whether the other owner waves back, or looks at you bewildered as to why you are waving at him. I guess its because the car seems to attract a mixture of owner types. Some are enthusiasts like those of us on here, others are just average Joes, or average Joe`s wife who isnt really into cars. I used to have several old mini`s and nearly every mini owner would flash you regardless as to how old or young they were so its not quite in that league yet.

Sounds like its the same colour as my roadster. I`ll definately have to keep an eye out for you - I work in Cambridge so am here every day. I think its 50/50 on zed owners flashing each other. I flash any zed I see, and sometimes get a wave back but other times get very puzzled looks from the other driver wondering why I am flashing them. I was actually looking at Nobles on autotrader earlier in the week... always fancied one! -
No reason why you cant do this although your accounts section may frown on this. I did exactly this in the past. I worked out that it would be cheaper for me to hire a small car and use that for the business trip I had, rather than use my own car. The company I worked for was happy to pay 45p a mile, but my gf at the time dropped me in it by saying I had hired a car instead of using my own. As soon as they knew that, the accounts team refused to pay me the 45p a mile and only paid for the hire cost + petrol. As far as I was concerned it was none of the companies business if I used my own car, my brothers car or a hire car. I didnt think it made no difference to them at all as a company - but their accounts woman was very strict.

Hey, where abouts in Cambs are you? Im around that way too, so will have to look out for you. What colour is the zed? -
Very very nice. Around my way I only ever see white or purple m3`s in that shape! 19mpg tho.... not sure I could handle that as a daily driver.
