Sounds interesting but if one of the cars has to be worth over £15k (as stated on the GTR site) then I guess it's not so good for those of us who's 350z is the crown of the family fleet! S. Mine would just about be worth £15k atm, but what happens in a years time when it drops below that value, does that mean you can no longer renew on that policy. I remember even looking at traders insurance a few years back as an option but very few would include motorbikes and you had have all sorts of other company related stuff to prove you were a legit company.

HELP NEEDED Replacing a wheel bearing - DIY job?
rabbitstew replied to -Chris-'s topic in 350Z Technical
Ive done no end of bearings on cars in the past and never used to use a press or a puller. I use a big socket and a hammer to knock the middle part of the bearing out - it splits the bearing in 2. So you are left with the shell in the hub and the rest on the carrier. Then you can use a hammer / cold chisel to knock the bit off the carrier. Sometimes an angle grinder or a bit of heat helps. With regards to the bit of bearing left in the hub, you can use a large socket or an old bearing along with a vice as a diy press to push the bearing out - and the same to press the new one in. I must have changed about 20 bearings like this before finally investing in a slide hammer & a bearing puller kit last year. They arent cheap, but made the job a lot easier when I did the bearing on my old VW Golf. Did the whole bearing in about 45mins. Including having a tea break. You can actually hire such tools I think too. Not sure what that would cost tho. -
Bought a shed and within 4 hours its up in flames

Not sure what good speaking to the seller would do. Even if they knew there was a fuel leak they are hardly likely to admit it and give the buyer 2grand back. Unfortunately its always down to the buyer to make sure they check the car over throughly. Unfortunately some things like this you cant always spot until its too late. I had a near miss many years back. I had a new clutch fitted in my car by a national high street clutch chain. They actually took 3 days longer than quoted to do the work, but finally finished it. I picked the car up and drove it back to my work car park. As I parked up I noticed a slight smell of burning, so opened the bonnet to check all was okay. To my surprise i found some of the sound proofing was on fire. I managed to pull it free and throw it on the floor. But, it was so lucky that i had noticed the smell and checked. Had I been someone who wasnt as alert then I would have just parked up and left the car. I was also lucky that i hadnt been driving home which would have given chance for the fire to really take hold. It was so close to having a burnt out shell of a car! Basically what they had done was not put the sound deading back properly so it was left resting on the exhaust manifold, so as the car got hot, it caught fire. I went straight back to the clutch place and they basically said it was nothing to do with them. Even writing to their head office resulted in "the manager said the car was fine when it left here, so your lying". -
To be honest, as my main car insurance is with Admiral they have been trying to persuade me for months to get their multi-car policy. Ive lost count of the number of times they have phoned me up and spent hours going through quotes with me in an effort to try and persude me. Each time I say "look, i can get my cars insured cheaper elsewhere outside of the multi car policy" and they just do not believe me. They then go through the whole quote and say "but if you insure your 2nd car with us it will only cost you £500 more and we`ll knock £50 off the price of your zed insurance". I actually had a quote for the car in question for £80 elsewhere. The biggest thing which got me is that the 2nd car insurance was not actually due for another 3 or 4 months. They kept saying "no problem you can do it now and save money". But upon checking their clauses, it turned out that if when it came to insuring the 2nd car in 4 months time, Admiral were not the cheapest and I decided to go elsewhere instead, Admiral said they would charge me a fee for not using the multicar policy and increase the main cars insurance. So you are forced effectively to use their multi car scheme even if they are no longer the cheapest once you say yes now. They also seem to have no consistancy in their approach. Since your NCB is only on one vehicle, for me, they offered zero NCB on a 2nd car. So we are back to the situation where you can only drive one car at once, you only want a cheap shed as a second car which would massively reduce the risk of Admiral paying out on the expensive zed, so really they should be encouraging you to have a 2nd car shed and therefore giving you some discount on a 2nd car. But, for some other people, they have happily transfered the drivers ncb over to 2 cars. There seems to be no consistancy with them. For me, i`ll stick to seperate insurance quotes. Its a shame really, as ive 2 cars & 2 motorbikes, all with seperate insurance policies and seperate ncb`s building up. It would be nice to collate them into one policy which takes into account my overall risk and experience.

Second is a lifetime? on real road conditions its neither here nor there, certainly wouldnt describe is as being able to leave the zed for dead in the acceleration stakes. And for £20k more id expect something a lot better. But each to their own. Everyone has their own preferences as to what cars they like, so everyones a winner here. Those figures were for standard cars.

Had my RS Turbo chipped for £300, power increased from 130 bhp to 195 bhp. Collins Engineering who supplied and fitted the parts said they had a 225 bhp kit but that was pretty expensive as it included suspension and brake upgrades. Pete I got from 120bhp (stock) to 150bhp for about 10quid. That included buying a drill bit to drill the carb jets out to a bigger side to increase the fueling. To get from 150bhp to an approx 225bhp cost me £650 for hybrid turbo, £600 to have the head, carb, manifolds all gasflowed and ported out (17.5% more flow) and £600 for new uprated group N clutch.

Would probably have been better off spending that 2grand on a facelift car which had more power out of the factory. Its amazing how little power tuning gives the zed. Especially for me as im used to turbo cars. On my Renault 5 GT Turbo I got around 25bhp (20% power increase) just by poking a hole in 1 pipe. Now THATS what I call cheap power!

nut case.

Welcome!!! And enjoy the new zed!

It certainly could be the zed - a combination of the hard suspension and seat / seating position. When ive been driving my missus`s car all week, then climb into the zed I really do notice how much harder it is. If you already have a back injury it will only aggravate it.

Excellent news! Was it technically called a 1/2 drive bit or 1/2 plug or something?

They will fly through MOT. But they can't test the quality of the brake pad relative to an OEM one there. The regs stipulate that any brake components such as pads, discs, lining, piston parts or whatever that are not OE have to perform within 15% (better or worse) of the standard equipment. Therefore brakes which are considerably better fall foul of the regs. Note: the box that DS2500 pads come in says "For Race Use Only". Yeah i noticed that on the box! But if you think about it. Noone tells their insurance company if they have changed their OEM tyres, brake pads, discs or even headlamp bulbs, and who knows what parts garages fit or whether they are up to OEM spec. In fact I dont think at any point anyone actually checks a car to ensure items are up to OEM spec. Seems strange to some degree to have regs like this if they are never actually checked.

Totally awesome. Those wheels look a bit mad - like bits of alloy wrapped around the wheels. Wait a minute...... @ 0.50 minutes into that clip... isnt that Prince Harry?!?!!!! wtf is he doing there?!
-
Wonder why they havent got the correct certification. It cant be because they arent any good as mine are more than enough to stop the car quickly, even when cold. In fact, it passed the mot with them on last week without any problems.

2 seconds of googling to get some figures. Cayman S 0-60 in 5.1, top speed 171. 0-100 in 11.7 and 1/4 mile in 13.7 Compared to 350z 313 model. 0-60 in 5.5, top speed restricted to 155. 0-100 in 12.7 and 1/4 mile in 14.3. So whilst on the open road everything is different, from the figures I can hardly imagine a Cayman S leaving the 350z for dead. It looks like there is very very little between them. Not bad when you consider the Porsche costs a lot more to buy. Also, didnt i read somewhere that the Cayman did not come with an LSD?

not all of them do.. my seats are exactly the same as would be in a coupe with the hump in the drivers seat and no mesh ah, it may just be the alezan orange roadster ones which do then, as your right, thinking about it ive seen quite a few ones with the black leather interior which dont have the netting.

+1 just interested I have found that the traction control will kick in between gear shifts 1st to 2nd when giving it some beans really killing the pick up. It makes no did fence to engine power but does mean that you get all the power all the time. Yep, mine seems to always cut in if i accelerate too hard in 2nd and on the shift between 2nd & 3rd if the tyres are cold. Its strange as you cant feel the tyres loosing grip, but i guess they must be if its cutting in. Once the tyres are warmed it seldom kicks in.

Welcome! Interestingly I had the same decision to make. I actually started off looking at E46 M3`s and it was after looking at about 3 of them I saw a 350z roadster sitting in the corner of a garage`s show room. I looked around it, sat in it and it totally blew me away. Unfortunately it was already sold, so I was straight onto autotrader`s website on my mobile phone to see if there were any more out there. Luckly there were 2 others for sale within a 100 mile radius, so I checked them both out and bought one the very next day. One big bonus for me with getting a zed is that you can get a much newer, lower mileage car for the same price as an older high mileage M3.

The roadster ones also have netting in the middle of them to help air circulation, so they are different looking to the coupe ones.

There's a Temper Orange one on there for 11.2k, not to everyone's taste but I like it . Just browsing through the Zeds I put them into order by price...the second most expensive 350 Zed is a 56 Coupe, I think the dealer is deluded if he thinks he's going to get £14.5k plus for it I think he must have picked up a 3 year old Glass's guide http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-Nissan-3 ... 075wt_1396 Pete If he thinks he can get £14.5 for that 2006 non 313 model, then that makes my car worth about £18k with all the extra bits mine has over that one. Makes you wonder indeed where some of these people get their prices from. Id say that one is maybe worth about £10.5 or £11 at a very strong push. He may just be trying his luck with the sunny weather. Temper orange is a cracking colour. Really nice!

Id be tempted to get a magnet and look in the drain.!

Do you mean the actual bit which the socket pushes onto? Im pretty sure on my torque wrench that bit doesnt actually come out, but i guess each wrench is different. Unless its a snap on or similar brand, i suspect you wont be able to just buy that bit?
