Have you retired your CD collection?
rabbitstew replied to HEADPHONES's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Thats my understanding of it. Think of CD`s as a kinda license for you to have that content and its up to you how you use it - whether you tape it, mp3 it, or just play the cd. But, once you sell that CD you are selling the rights to use that material. Hence, ive still got all my cd`s in the loft. For the 99p each most of them are worth its hardly worth me selling them, only to have to purchase them in a digital form online in order to legally play them. -
Lol, theres a few "rough" looking areas around Cambridge, like Arbury, Fen Ditton, but your lucky, Cambridgeshire in general seems to be down as "low risk". I work in Cambridge, and if I was to put my works address down, my premium drops by about 60%!

Mine has been my daily commuter for the last 12 months, doing nearly 2000 miles a month in it. But, the with the fuel costing around £450 a month just to get to work and back, ive started to use a diesel shed this last 2 months for the weekly commute - keeping the zed for fun a couple of times a week. The Diesel shed saves me around £300 a month I reckon, maybe even more when you consider things like the tyres on the zed lasting longer due to less miles. With the shed costing me around £120 a month all in to keep on the road, its a no brainer for me. Ive also found that now when I do drive the zed I enjoy it a lot more. This last weekend for example, I did about 200 miles in it over 2 days and it was fantastic. Really enjoyed the handling, the performance, I even enjoyed the sound of the K1 exhaust. Really made me think that I will maybe keep this car another 12 months. Whereas, when I was using it for the daily commute - trundling along at 50mph in traffic watching the fuel gauge go down, I couldnt help but wonder if I was mad or not.

Same here. I dont think ive ever really been into playing CD`s much. Ive always used a PC as a media centre even before they became more mainstream. I remember setting my first one up back in around 1995 or 1996 and forking out £500 for a CD burner and even more for a big enough hard drive to store all my media on. I used to rip all my cd`s to mp3, then play them back from the pc via my hifi. The CD went into a box under the bed gathering dust. When the first mp3 players started coming out I remember buying one which had 64mb memory on it. it was the size of a packet of cigarettes. And d/l`ing mp3`s off the net... would take around 20minutes per track. Then as soon as mobile phones started being able to play mp3`s, the mp3 player was dumped and id just use a sony erricson phone with a big sd card on it to do the same stuff. When I think back now, it feels weird that at the time I was the only one of my mates who was really into mp3`s and using their pc like this. Most had top of the range cd players and huge cd collections! Now, media centres and boxes like the WD Live box are commonplace and everyone does it! Now ive a 6gb NAS box, streaming everything to where ever in the world I am. -
Last time I looked, new they are about £350, but 2nd hand you can pick them up for £160->£175. Labour for installation will vary upon where you take it and how much "adjustment" the system needs to fit. They are renown for not being a good fit and very often need a bit of bending etc. to fit. Therefore, if you can buy a 2nd hand system, chances are it fitted fine on the car it came off so all the adjusting has already been done. When I fitted mine, it was a nightmare. Not because of any problems with the K1 system, but trying to get the old Nissan OEM exhaust off was a right pain. Took me hours of trying to loosen bolts and getting it off. Once off, fitting the K1 was a piece of cake. For the money they are pretty cheap, and do look good under the car. Id go for it, and if you dont like it, you can just sell it on and go for a different option.

Theres a corvette like that in one of the "Getaway from Stockholm" videos which they thrash the living day lights out of....

Well last week, driving along, car flicks up a stone and we have a large stone chip on the LH side of the windscreen. So, book it in to have it looked at and the window man says it needs a whole new screen. So, we book that in for last Wednesday. Good job we didnt have it done any sooner, as sods law, Monday, driving along, almighty bang and another car must have flicked up a stone as an almighty crack suddenly appeared on the opposite side of the windscreen!!! Ive never had a single windscreen crack before, and he we have 2 in the space of a week! Anyway, new screen was fitted without any problems and the insurance covered it. But, the screen fitter told us it was a special screen on the Juke Diesels which had extra sound proofing in it to reduce engine noise?!!?!!!!! Also, the price had we not been covered by insurance was £810 ???!!!!!!!!! Not sure whether he was talking rubbish or not... Just hope we dont get any more chips or cracks on the new screen now! Only other thng is, that the cars now at nearly 8k miles and its feeling nippier all the time. Definitely loosens up with time.

I had a woman pull out straight in front of my on my R1 once in one of them and knock me off the bike. I ended up doing a superman over the top of the back of the car. My bike was nearly totalled and the only mark she had on her car was a small pencil line scratch.

Scary stuff!

Thats not surprising really. How many years has the 370z been out? 2 or 3? If you look at the sold figures for the 350z, for example, in 2008 they only sold 768 of them, so they seem to be selling at a similar amount per year. Yes but that was 768 at the end of a 5 year run not the start Whatever way you look at it the 370 has not been very popular, lots of reasons and doesn't make it a bad car or a silly one to own just a rarer one Sold around 2,000 a year from 2003-2006. That number was a quota, they could easily have sold more. Pete Yep, demand was outstripping supply in the early days, hence all the jdm imports which always seem to be 2003/2004 cars....

Thats totally mental. But I wonder how much money they would actually save when you think of the costs involved in cutting a car in half, rewelding it back together, joining all the pipes, wires etc back up, repainting the whole car... Its reminded me of when I was a kid though and I was hanging out at the local Datsun garage and was watching them do a cut & shut on a car out back!

Doesnt sound great!

Ive actually been very surprised when some forum members have said how old they are. In particular a couple of people on here I assumed were probably early 20`s by the way they came across in their posts, and yet in reality it transpired they were in their 50`s!!!!

Spotted last night around 5.45pm, on a14 heading south around St Ives / Cambridge services. Gold 350z (might have been a 370z, as I only spotted it at the last minute), all kitted out with what looked like a nismo kit and all stickered up, on back of a trailer being towed. Looked more like it was a drift car than anything road legal!

Spotted last night at 6pm, on a14 coming from Brampton Hut roundabout towards Huntingdon. Azure blue 06 plate roadster.

Jags have always dropped in value like a brick thrown into a pond though. Same as Rovers.... Not to mention Range Rovers... in fact anything "British" really.

I saw a mini with some on earlier. They were about 12inch long eye lashes in silver above the headlamps. Looked mad!!!!

Supercharger blow-off or bypass valve?

Your logic kinda makes sense to me. Its like the reverse of a turbo dump value, which only opens when the throttle shuts. Ive only had experience of turbo systems and not s/c so hopefully someone else will be able to confirm for definate. -
£1100 a month isnt bad then, my zed costs me £900 a month and thats without any loan. Its scary how much things soon cost. Things like petrol & depreciation are the main killers. One thing I wondered was whether its just worth hiring a decent car for weekend use as if you only plan to use it occasionally as a 2nd car it may work out cheaper. What are you accounting for in your £900? MOT, tax, insurance, servicing, 1 set of tyres, depreciation of around 2k/year (i.e. everything it costs you to use the car on the road for 12 months), works out at £450 a month for me. I do a lot of miles (about 450->500mile a month), so the remaining £450 is fuel for me to get to work/back each month. Obviously if its just a w/end car the petrol costs would be less. In your example, £300.

Not in my recent experience with the last 370's I have tried (two demos and one for sale) - they just took a copy of the licence signed the form about paying first x pounds in any insurance claim and threw me the keys with the word "Enjoy". So I did Thats good then! Last time I had that was with a Lotus Elise I test drove, but every garage ive been to since wont let me out on my own. Even when I test drove the missus`s old shed. Maybe its my racing gloves and crash helmet which puts them off?!!

Ive known mechanics at Honda, VW, Lexus and Skoda and all of them regularly will thrash customers cars. When I took my 350z to the local Nissan garage (only ever time ive taken it there), I caught the mechanic reving the living day lights out of it just because its got a race exhaust on it. I think people like the Sales guys would probably have got bored of doing that sort of thing, and should they blow a car up or crash it, it wouldnt look good for their career. Also demo cars, especially things like the 350z would have only been driven by customers under supervision of the sales person, and I think most people wouldnt be allowed to abuse a car with the salesman sitting next to them. Ive happily bought 2 ex demo cars now from main dealers and not had any problems. They are usually 6 months or 12 months old, fully loaded and a lot cheaper than new.
