As regards finishing, Doogy, Danish oil will look great. It's all in the prep though. You must do the final sanding with the grain, ie the same direction. If not, it will look fine until you start applying the oil and then you will see all the little sanding marks. Give it a wipe with white spirit on a rag first though to get all the sanding dust off. I am however now intrigued by the "Technical" issue with the coffee table. Haha.

Glad to see you back posting enthusiastically about projects again Chris. You know I enjoy a good bit of fabricating. As others have said, all the best for the rest of 2016.

I think this post is all just a very clever and elaborate cover story for a planned smuggling operation involving Albanians, an insurance policy in the unfortunate event that you get arrested. ....... Only kidding, hope you get it sorted.

Ref Lawdata, they seem to share an office in what looks like a lock up, with a catering company, and have a net worth of minus 22k.

Looking good. Will you paint it in sections or all as one? Just priming mine, I've found that without any extraction or filtration large areas are a real pain. Also how will you go on with the two pack paint, I was worried about the isocyanates. I'm only asking as I am thinking about doing the underside of mine before it goes to the body shop to avoid the need for them to transfer it from the rotisserie to the shell dolly. Once again super job you are doing. If you ever plan on going as far as Buxton raceway let me know, I'd love to have a look. Keep up the great work.

I know, since these tragic events, they are all grounded, I just find it amazing that's all one is worth.

Haha, but have you seen the estimate.... 8k to 12k. I'd buy it just to put it on the drive!!

Perhaps a joint project for Hugh and Chris? http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23589/preview_lot/4934262/

Thanks for the encouragement guys At this rate it will be the longest (timewise) build thread on here. For those who have joined in the last 3 years, I did have a Zed once, honest. I'll be honest and say there have been several times when I could have done a Basil Fawlty and beaten it senseless with a tree branch.

Looking good and great progress Are you painting the shell yourself?

The bonnet is unfortunately still work in progress. All the panel gaps are now nearly as I want them. Although in the previous pics of the bonnet it looks ok, the truth is that there is a long, LONG way to go. The next part is sorting out nearly 50 years of little dings and marks as well as the small repairs I have done. Every part of the bonnet seems to be a curve, meaning that while this is part of the car's appeal and indeed prompted Enzo Ferrari to describe it as "the most beautiful car ever made", it is an absolute nightmare to block and sand the high build primer and keep a smooth surface. I now have a huge selection of soft, semi soft sanding blocks in a multitude of shapes and curves. I would say the outer part of the bonnet is now 60% there. Once that's finished, I've got to do the same on the inside Have a look at the bonnet vents, I'm still not happy they are all parallel. Anyway a few pics, to show that I have actually been doing something. Hopefully the updates this year should be more frequent, as I am determined to get it in paint come what may! Thanks to all those who are still following

Absolutely amazing mate, a far cry from the old Zed shed. Look forward to some interesting builds in the future.

You could use that stapled to the wooden studs. Other users of the unit might think you're about to start growing stuff in there but it would work. The advantage of the 25mm thick Kingspan insulation is its much more rigid and effectively self supporting. All depends on budget I suppose. Has the OP got some dimensions?
-
If I understand this correctly, this is a larger unit that has been divided with timber stud and wire mesh to create smaller garage size units that are then rented out. Anything that absorbs moisture such as carpet might not be the best idea for the walls. Likewise an old mattress that will also take up valuable room. If your budget stretched a bit further I would be inclined to line it with 25mm foil backed insulation board such as Kingspan. I pay about £10 per sheet for this. 2.4m x 1.2m. You often see it on E bay as well that people have left over. Hope this helps.

Just say quite a large portion of the unaccounted for salary was handed over in cash/drugs/escort girls. Can't see a problem.

Really starting to take shape now.

Not as silly as it seems Dan, there was a discussion recently on the E type forum about the repair costs of classic cars now easily exceeding the value of the actual car. The owner of a rare classic could in effect be entitled to have the car restored to pre accident condition not necessarily "irrespective of cost" but up to and maybe more than 100% value of the car. Unfortunately in this case the OP would probably be hard pressed to prove the rarity value of his car or that he couldn't find a similar one with the money the insurance paid out. Back to the OP, sorry to hear what's happened and hope you get it all sorted.

Having done quite a bit (way too much for one lifetime) of sheet metal work on the E type, I eventually found the best way to cut the sheet was with a decent Jigsaw and a fine metal blade. This way you don't distort the edges and a quick once over with a metal file is all that's needed. If you use stainless or aluminium, a rub down with a scotch pad after gives a nice brushed look. Great idea, look forward to pics.

Very nice, well done! Doesn't seem that long ago you were interested in my old 350, haha.

That's not a garage it's a car home😄 I like to think of it more as the West Wing of Kaiser Kastle. Ref new build garage sizes, you have to remember that giving each garage say 80cm extra, by house number ten you've lost a building plot. Which depending where you live could be anything from £50k to £500k.
-
I think Kaiser struggles with his garage...

Very expensive, and even more expensive if it comes undone. Best avoided. Haha.

As Ricey says, excellent stuff but there are different Sika products for different applications. I think the one you want is Sika252. It's very important that the two surfaces you want to bond are cleaned of polish etc and decreased. Mask the area off and lightly abraded the two surfaces to be bonded with 320 paper to help adhesion. Have plenty of cloths and preferably trade wipes to clean up and put some latex gloves on as it's a swine to get off.
