  1. ahh well, thats a little annoying. however i did do a bit of researchg on them first and they get nothing but praise. they should be getting fitted this weekend
  2. i just ordered some pilot sport 3s. the PS2s were difficult to get hold of as well as being considerably more expensive, possibly due to the lack of stock. The PS3s have a 40 profile, however i rarely use drive with the TCS on anyway ( i would rather have a little bit of slip than the TCS kick in and totally upset the balance of the car) so i dont think it will be an issue. I will post a review of them when they've been fitted and i have racked up a few miles.
  3. sold. hehe. guess thats me skint for the next month. I did read most of the thread but started skimming a little when i saw it was 18 pages. i spoke to my mate tonight to see what he is running. he has MPS2s on and said theyre excellent. and i'll take Ekonas wor'd for it. started raining on my way back tonight and the kaisers, well.... think i'll try and get them changed as soon as possible.
  4. Just totted up for some MPS2s. anyone ever used these before? i would have a look around see if i can get a better price but i still think it would be quite pricey. Michelin Pilot Sport 2 2 x 245/45 R18 Y (100 ) £451.56 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 2 x 225/45 R18 Y (95 ) £399.94 My Fitting Option: Mail Order £12.00 Order Total: £863.50 around the same price as these are the Pirrelli P zero rossi. not had any experience with either but if anyone has feel free to let me know
  5. This isnt exactly true. the cars they review have normally been covered im magazines and online reviews many months earlier. when they do the news and show the pics on the screen of upcoming cars, this is when they are actually out but you don't see them review it for at least another 6-months. for example. the Ferrari FF that they mentioned on the news on sunday is allready being reviewed by other sources. - this is my main critasism of the show but maybe is not as important to the typical top gear viewer. i do like when they do a propper review though as they do a lot more down to earth everyday sort of person review that often picks up on things that the more hardcore driving enthusiast journos tend to miss. as i said before. its Quite an entertaining show these days but for information about new cars its pretty dire. if they spead up the turnaround of cars coming out to them showing their review it would be much better. also they need to stop trying to be funny. the presenters are funny blokes but recently (eg clarksons iplayer buffering joke) i feel theyre trying to hard to be funny and it makes me want to switch off. i think the arguement for people saying "if it annoys you dont watch it" doesnt really stand. there is only so much that reading a written review can give you. People want to see and hear the cars of their dreams being driven and i would have thought that one hour a week, for a few weeks a year is not so much to ask for those of us who are a bit nerdy about performance vehicles.
  6. ok, so after recently buying my Zed and having clocked a few hundred miles now i can conclude that. the kaisers on the rear that are pretty much new are dangerous. never buy this tyre. in the dry i have no confidence in them and in the wet i feel as though they are actively trying to kill me. on the motorway as well as in corners and accelerating. they are CRAP! they ahve to go. the 040s on the front dont dill me with confidence either, however it is hard to test them properly as the crappy rear kaisers mean the cars balance has a tendancy to oversteer. my last car was a golf GTI turbo with 220bhp with KW springs / shocks and Eibach anti-roll bars. it handled fantastically well and could corner MUCH faster than my zed on its current tyre set-up which is a little depressing. People seem to be raving on about Falkens in here but i must admit i tried them on my golf (18x8 FK452s) and i found that they were; ok in the dry but lacked feel. awefull in the wet (allthough not as bad as these kaisers) and wore out quickly. - i found the goodyears (cant remember the model) and 050s i had on before were much better. i know that the 350z is a different car but my past experience with these tyres does not seem equal to all the hype that they are getting on this thread. the Toyo proxes seem to have been well recieved on here too, but im struggling to find somewhere that does the correct size for the Rays. i'm wanting to splash out on all 4 corners over the next week or so but i dont want to regret my decision. the most important feature im looking for is grip on both wet (i live in the lake district. lots of rain) and dry roads and high speed stability. at 4th gear speeds the current tyres are scary. lifespan is not so important to me as i would much rather sacrifice mileage and have better grip and traction. I am probably looking around the £200 a corner mark as a maximum (good tyres at less than this is fine though )
  7. I watch it but only for entertainment purposes. due to the way its recorded all the cars they review are allways at least 6-months old anyway. I do think its funny, but sometimes it just looks like theyre trying to hard. they will never take it back to hardcore reviewing as most of the audience dont really care about cars. they just find it funny. if you want a entertaining sunday nighyt show, mildy orientated around cars then watch it. if you want performance car reviews buy evo magazine
  8. Clutch is sorted eventually HAPPY DAYS. what a beast. drove it quite a bit last night. going to go for a propper srive out today though
  9. i meant bridgestones. my heads a bit pickled... bit of a hectic day
  10. good news. they have taken back the car and are going to fit the pirrelis and sort out the clutch. i just hope it gets done quickly and correctly. I have really warmed to the handling of the Z over the past few days. driving my GTI again makes me really appreciate the Z. especially the steering. anything else i drive feels so numb and disconnected. cant wait till the clutch is sorted so i can actually put some power down
  11. not only this but my mate saw my car being completely ringed out whilst it was at the garage and he was working at a site nearby.
  12. yeah, after getting the car back the tyres are definately not fit for purpose. also the clutch is slipping, i had noticed the revs rising ahead of the speed increasing before today but i thought this may be to do with the shitty tyres. but now i am sure that it is the clutch. i put my foot down in 4th at about 40mph today and the revs just screamed up, then i got the distinctive smell of clutch. i have just written an E-mail to the dealer stating: "I picked the car up from the garage after they had had it 3 days on thursday night. I think part of the problem was that the tyre pressures had only been topped up to 28PSI, (they should have been 35) this making the car very unstable As you sugeested i thought i would try to let the tyres bed in, however the tyres that were installed on the rear are definately unsuitable for the vehicle. This is why the manufacturer states that Bridgestone RE040 or RE050 must be used. When i test drove the car, it had manufacturers spec tyres on so i think it is only right that these should be installed. Also after picking the car up on thursday i noticed what felt like the clutch was slipping, i had noticed this prior to taking it to your specified garage but it seemed a lot more noticable after i picked it up. Now after using the car this evening i am sure that the clutch is slipping. if i press the accellerator while the car is in 3rd gear or higher, the revs rise dramatically before the clutch catches before the revs return to what they should be. Considering i only picked the car up last friday, after it apparently having a service and MOT, and in that week of owning it these problems have occurred, I feel that the vehicle is unfit for purpose and these problems should be rectified. I hope that we can come to an agreement to rectify the issues i have stated here." i can see this being a real pain in the arse to sort out and i just hope i dont end up out of pocket. this is the first car i have bought from a dealer and not privately and so far the experience has not been good. thanks again for your support and advice. Chris
  13. diesels. hmm... good torque and fuel economy but it ends there. in my experience i find that VAG TSI, or even the older 1.8 20v turbo engines deliver around 40mpg if your just driving regularly. and the are also perform very well if you decide you want to drive back from the supermarket like you didnt pay for your shopping. also the power, torque and fuel economy increases a lot with a simple remap. that would be my choice if i were to get a daily commuter and leave the Zed for weekends.
  14. beating women is obviousley wrong but this is a fight that she started. I feel sorry for him. i bet that was just an instinctive reaction and she deserved it. Funny as hell though
  15. do you live in The Bronx?? taken out a week ago: i'm 22 2005 model no mods 3 points 5 yrs NCB £925 with my stepdad on was around £1070 without him but he's wanted a Z since they came out so i thought it would cheer him up a bit. and saved me a nice bundle with admiral through comparethemarket.com
  16. I'm in kendal, South cumbria (good roads round here ) The dealer said "try to wear in the tyres a bit and see if it goes away" - i am aware that tyres have a releasing agent on them but that would have gone by now and every other time i have got new (decent) tyres for previous cars there has been an obvious increase, not decrease in perormance. - i think theyre maybe trying to just eek out their time till i give up. (which i almost have) Also as mentioned above the cheeky bastard tried to tell me that it was because i couldnt handle the car. They refuse to allow me to use a garage of my choice and forward the bill on to them and the one they use is, in my opinion, incompetant. I'm not totally sure where i stand on my rights as a buyer from a 2nd hand dealer, but; These are not the manufacturers specified tyres and when i test drove the car it was running on bridgestones all round. Allbeit they were worn on the back. it was only when they took the car for its MOT before i picked it up that it came back with these tyres and this problem. the car was partly purchased on finance. would you suggest that i contact them if the dealer continues to mess me about?
  17. I think the garage that the dealer asked me to take the car to were way out of their depth. I mean, the mechanic tried to solve the problem by switching the fronts and rears. even though they are staggered widths. Also, he didnt seem to know what wheel allignment was, which shocked me a little. I think its time i just got some decent rubber put on the car. It may be out of my own money but the fact that the kaisers are the correct size etc means its going to be very difficult for me to get any money out of the dealer. and as Ekona said, if i do this i will then have decent tyres regardless. if the problem still persists i guess the next step is to get the allignment done. it's been an interesting first week of owning the car to say the least. the most annoying part of it is that i can drive my old GTi much quicker and safer than the Zed at the moment which, given the sound of the engine and great feel of road holding and connectivity i get from the Zed before it starts crab-crawling around is rather frustrating. Time to source some new rubber at a decent price. i'll keep you posted of any progress made. Chris P.S Sorry about all the typos in my last post, was using my phone.
  18. thanks for all the response. after checking all the tyre pressures i took the zed to acompetant mechanic i have know for a while and let him test drive it. his words. "there's definately something wrong with it. it just wants to drive the back end all over the road." f at this point we were doing 60 on an arrow straight road. so the dealer put me in touch with a garage they use not far from me. after dropping it off with them on monday they finally had a look at it today. they they test drove it and noticed the problem but there were no mechanical problems. ie bushes etc. they thought it may be down to the tyres. the dealer had allready spoken to them and when i called him he said. run it for a week to let the tyres run in a bit and if not they will replace them for manufacturers spec ones. i think he is trying to brush me off as an idiot who knows nothing the handling characteristics or tyre requirements of powerful cars. what really annoyed me though is that despite the blatent problem and the fact that 2 proffesssionals have said that there is something not right with it. the boss at the dealer had the cheek to say that i was just naot used to driving a powerful car. hopefully i will get to pick it up tomight and see what its like. i have a feeling that this isnt over yet... sight i just want to drive my new car
  19. amazing vid, thanks for posting!
  20. thanks mate i'll do it in the morning.
  21. they are not my choice either, and i think that the dealer, as you said, will have put some cheapos on. i must admit though, the problem doesn't feel like a tyre issue. its not losing traction, more feels like there is a lot of movement between the wheel and the body of the car, meaning that the rear feels very instable and as though its floating around of its on accord.this is what initially made me suspect that it was a bush. it is not breaking tracton as i am aware that driving with any sort of enthusiasm with this problem will most likely lead to my new car being suddenly thrown off the road and being a write off.. im going to try and get it looked at at my local garage tomorrow. i also think that i am right in thinking that by selling me a dangerous (thats what it feels, no other word for it) car they are in breach of some kind of legislation and they should pay for any work that has to be done. thanks for you advise. i am aware that it's late... much appreciated
  22. yes sorry it was a typo they are Front 225/45 and rear 245/45. it was bought from a dealer yes, he will be getting a phone call tomorrow morning after i check the tyre pressures. they should be 35 all round? the tyres are fitted in the correct direction. so long as the pressures are ok this is the correct tyre set-up?
  23. fronts are 245/25 and rear are 245/45. fronts are bridgestones and not new. rears are new kenda kaiser. the problem definately feels like its at the rear of the car and it can happen even when plodding along an A-road. it jsut seams really instable
  24. Yeah they are. the problem still occurs with the TC turned off. I only turned it off because the squerming + TC kicking in was rather scary.
  25. thanks for the warm welcome. the car is fantastic however between my test drive and picking it up, it went in for new rear tyres and now the rear of the car is squerming about quite a lot. see my post here for details: viewtopic.php?f=100&t=43126&p=661374#p661374. i need to get this sorted quickly as the rest of the car is just amazing. especially the silky smooth engine. Mnmmm
