The Caravan Catcher v3.0 (370z) - MY17 Nismo!
mattross1313 replied to mattross1313's topic in Member Build Projects
Agreed, it's just a task of finding the right one should I go for a CBE. To be honest my last Z ran stock cats with the ARK system and at times that was very loud (for me anyway). On warm idle it was really quiet but you you give it a boot full it does get loud. Another option I looked at before Christmas was short tails but I'm told they are super loud. Might look at the Cobra or similar as I think they were always a sensible option (on the 350'z at least). I might also look into the mid pipes, but keep the Nismo Back. -

As above from Sipar, some guys get the EML light removed during remap. But I have still heard of cars with this mod that do occasionally still throw the light. I think James' car did this? For the un-resonated pipes I don't have much of a comparison so can't say either way on this. Yeah ATM I am running ART test pipes and stock Nismo CBE. It is pretty tame right so so not sure what I'll do in the future. -

Drop me a PM man and I'll get them out for you, chuck me a quid to cover my stamp ATM mine haven't thrown the EML. But it could just be a matter of time. I think James said they threw the light on his car a few times, but he's also running a CBE if that makes any difference! The ART puppies do have a reeeally long pipe to try and distance the sensors to which helps. I won't be making a decision on selling them for a month or so yet whilst the car beds in. But may want more noise! -

Let me try this later today with torque. I tested it last night with a Galaxy Phone but was using DashCommand. Will come back to you -
In my haste of buying loads of shiny things for the Nismo I picked this up on eBay. Turns out I can't read eBay adverts as this unit does not work on iOS....and guess what phone I have So if you have an Android phone or a laptop this will work great. I tested it last night on the drive home with a Android device from the office and it works as expected. This is of no use to me, so free to anyone that can make use of it. Just asking you cover my postage costs. Cheers, Matt

Yeah picked them up from a chance PM sent to James. I thought he had some other (cheaper ) decats he had trialed but turned out to be these bad boys ATM I'm interested to see how the system sounds once it's had time to bed in. I don't want to remove the Nismo system if I can help it as it's all part of the extras! Time will tell once the engines run in and I get chance to give it some large -
Ah dude! This sucks!! Hopefully you get things fixed up with relative ease. Good job you didn't hit the new spoiler!

Not sure the rules are visible when browsing the mobile version of the website. Perhaps Nub made the advert on his phone, and the rules weren't displayed -

Yesterday afternoon (Day 3) I also ticked off an all important visit - The Zed Shed! Popped in to catch up with the guys, within minutes Gizmo was up on the ramp and the guys set about their task with the usual speed and abuse I picked up a set of Motordyne ART Pipes from JamesJunior (top bloke!). The pipes have been sat on my desk since before Christmas, so I have been staring longingly at them until the car arrived! These pipes are a work of art.......see what I did there..... Obligatory pic of Gizmo in Zed Shed II. Chris & Bob abusing each other as per the norm. Bang, before you know it they are all fitted The pipes have a few hundred miles on them so I'd say they are pretty much 'run in'. The car definitely has a lower tone, and a bit barkier on acceleration. I am still only using part throttle and low revs for now whilst the engine runs in, so I would imagine it will get better as the system 'soots' up -

First weekend with the car since collection - spent all of yesterday either driving around, or fitting some of the mod's I've been stock piling at the office! Gave the car a good clean this afternoon too First order of the day was to install the priority item - Rory the lion He gets moved around from car to car with me! Fitted a pair of COB LED sidelights. Left bulb is stock, right bulb is LED. Looks pretty blue in the picture but its bright white in person and matches well with the headlights. I also bought a pair for the rear numberplate lights but they were too long to fit in the holder Bought these frosted Nismo stickers ages ago, so popped them on the rear view mirrors. Simple mod but I really like them! I did this next mod to my old 370 and really liked the look. It's just some red tint film to cover the clear section of the rear lights. -

They'll likely come off, but I quite like the wider rear ATM. The rear arch extensions look less stuck on than the fronts. Time will tell -

My OH works at our local Nissan dealership and gets access to staff deals every 3 months. Usually stuff like £500 off a Juke etc. But there was a substantial discount off the RRP, 0%, great servicing deal and RAC cover Too good to pass up -

Thanks dude! That's not a bad idea putting the plate slightly lower, will try that too when I get the parts made up -

That's looks smart mate, I'd guess that mine would be a similar size if I used the US Nismo brick. I think its 13"? -

Whilst the car was down at the unit for wrapping, it gave me some tinker time. First order of business was to make at start removing the arch trims. It was a pretty scary feeling taking a drill to something I didn't even own at the time but it works out fine (more luck than judgement). The wheel arch trims are held on with sticky tape on the wing face, then 3 clips and 2 rivets. Relatively easy going. I still have the backs to remove, but going to run them for now as I'm not sure if I like it with just the fronts fitted. Gives the rear a wider track. Also took care of the standard mod for a 370z - fit the GTR Start button. I loved how this looked on my old Z, but with the red Nismo surround it really sets off the interior. Plus having an extra 50bhp from the start button is always a bonus -

For the moment I've re-fitted the UK size plastic 'brick' and put the normal UK plate back on (no screws this time!! only sticky tape). I have just received a US size front plate for the Nismo which I may fit full time, or just for shows. -
After much deliberating on a name whilst waiting for the new Z to arrive, my sister suggested Gizmo, which has stuck! Good car name I think, and a subtle (I joke) play on words for Nismo and Zed

So to follow on after the excitement of yesterday... The car was delivered to the dealership Dec 23rd but I decided to hold out on registration so I could make it a 2017 car. Not a big deal, but figured for the sake of a week or so it might (doubt it) make it better for future sale. My OH works at the local dealership so I was allowed access to the car prior to registration, and dropped it off at a local car wrapping place my friend owns. The car was PDI'd over the Christmas break ready for reg'ing early Jan. During this time the valet team found a small mark on the rear bumper. Not the end of the world - it was a small mark but did go through the paint. So we were arranging for this to get repaired by Nissan / the dealership. Pic below. We then took the car down to get wrapped and in prep for this I started taking bits off the car (Side indicators, front number plate etc). This was partly to make the wrappers life easier, and partly as I wanted to tinker with the car! During PDI the mechanic fitted my number plates....nothing exciting there I hear you cry..... The front number plate was held on with double sided tape (good) and two small screws. The screws used were rather long and went through the number plate, into the plastic 'brick', then INTO the front bumper! So when I took the front plate off I was greeted by two holes! This was super frustrating as it could have easily been avoided. Pic below. Luckily the dealership didn't make any fuss and fixed both issues in good time for my handover. So fair play to them. I think they also now only use double sided tape for front plates to stop this happening again. So with the paint repairs complete the car dropped back to the wrapper. The tasks for the wrap team were as follows: - Paint Protection Film (Front bumper, Wings, Bonnet and Roof) - stone chips be gone! (Hopefully) - Full window tints (dark backs, light fronts) - Gloss black A pillars (GTR Style) Resulting in this -

No, they still come with the arch extensions. But whilst getting some other work done on the car (update to follow) I started removing them. Still need to take the rears off. I don't like the look of them, much cleaner removed IMO. You dropping in this weekend to show her off then mate????? I was going to on Saturday, Bob said there was a few people round. But I may not have time as sorting the car in the morning. Shame really as I was going to bring my decats with me and ask you nicely for some spanner time But will definitely be around soon
