  1. It's a pity that some garages can't treat us like grown ups. It's fine by me if a they don't want to buy a certain type of car...they could just say it's not for us or it's not our market or whatever but why it's necessary to invent odd reasons to do so is beyond me. Recently had various builders round to give quotes. 2 of them went through all the motions of pretending (quite well) to be interested then didn't bother to send in quotes or make any further contact. People who know these things said "it means they don't want the job". Why not just say... thanks but no thanks...or we are too busy or it's not the sort of job we want or whatever. I won't curl up in the foetal position and cry uncontrollably if I am told the truth.
  2. I agree with those who feel that the Zed is deceptive. Yes, the Caterhams I had (and the Westfield) felt madly quick at the time but that is partly down to the fact you are 4 inches off the ground and the amount of noise (particularly in the Crossflows). Maybe for the first bit, if it was dry and if you got everything right, they were quicker off the mark. However, it often surprises me, with the Zed, what the speedo says, which I find difficult to relate to what my senses are telling me. The only thing I miss, in truth, is that assault on the senses - but that can wear a bit think after a while. They thing I miss (without qualification) is the way they take the bends (and roundabouts) which has to be experienced to get it. Overall, though, given a mix of conditions, I am happy that I made the right choice.
  3. No power restriction actually, it's a slight time delay between pedal and throttle body movements, giving the impression of a little less power Really? In the 350z I thought it was 65%, 65%, 80% of max power in gears 1-3 respectively controlled at the ECU level rather than throttle body. But I'm no technician... I thought this too, would be interested to know what's correct The best way it was described to me was that, as standard, it is mapped for a lazy throttle response in the first three gears. I think it was Mark at Abbey who said imagine the throttle being operated by an elastic band in those gears, i.e. slow to respond in the first stage of pushing. The percentages are just ways of indicating the sort of impact it has.
  4. I think that is a great buy. I wouldn't have any hang-ups about import or auto at that price. Hope you enjoy it Re maintenance etc, there are a number of Scottish members on here. It would be worth you putting a separate posting up about that. For parts there is Clark Motorsport.
  5. Re Plenum spacer or any other mods...get those done first before the UpRev re-map. The re-map will make much more positive difference than the headline numbers might suggest and is definitely worth it IMHO.
  6. Nice write up Will Mark - would Uprev/Multi-maps work just as well on an auto 370Z?
  7. You are very welcome. It was the least (and most) I could do. My reactions were too slow for flashing.....my ancient Toyotas have everything on the opposite side...it takes me a few milliseconds to adapt...by which time you would have been gone
  8. Yesterday, around 8am, heading up from the roundabout that heads connects the routes to Dorking, Headley/M25, Leatherhead or Great Bookham (?). Heading in the M25 direction. They flashed lights. I waved.
  9. Northbound not far from Gatwick.
  10. That would explain why they had a large box bearing the legend "Minispares" in the back They were definitely heading South as they left the service station.
  11. You really need to organise your own supply truck It's just so convenient. http://
  12. Please do and report back...should be interesting
  13. Sorry...I didn't spot your previous question. I was just saying my car was Azure in response to the original thread.
  14. Autocar, Classic and Sports Car. Also used to love CCC. Used to get Auto Italia but not sure that is still around.
  15. Great looking GTV. Both my past Alfas were fantastic and I loved them (albeit neither were V6). Also drove a 147GTA - when I was considering my latest purchase. In the end I decided on the Zed. The Zed is a very good all rounder with very few downsides. Even with a Q2 diff or similar it is difficult for the Alfas to match the inherent benefits and feel of RWD. You can also get the V6 to sound pretty good, albeit in a creamy sort of way.
  16. Sorry to hear about your news NeilP and Graham. I don't normally believe in New Year Resolutions because why wait? However....my wife already had a recurrence of the issues with her spine (housebound since September). She had just had a steroid epidural and was about to restart physio when......she got a severe infection which then made it into her kidneys and bloodstream. She was taken into hospital on Christmas Day and has been there since on intravenous antibiotics. Anyway... she now appears to be on the mend. My New Years Resolution is somehow to help her get back to where she was in the summer, which is the best she had been in 20 years. She will always be restricted but she had got to about 50% of a normal life - which was plenty good enough for both of us. One thing she could do then, with little restriction, was swimming. So when she gets back to the 210 lengths a week she was doing in August my resolution will be have been achieved. Will - bet you are glad you asked!
  17. I would like to extend seasonal felicitations to all
