  1. I guess that many of you may have already read this excellent book from the Skip Barber Racing school/Carl Lopez. Don't be put off by it originating in the good old US of A. It's just been returned to me again and flicking quickly through, I haven't found a significantly better book to help understand the science of track driving and where/how to gain improvement. I would call it an adjunct to good tuition rather than a substitute. My version is about 17 years old but it's been updated since and you can get it from the usual places. Thought some people might find it interesting.
  2. Yes...it's on my sellers list. I just find it interesting. They get huge numbers of bids on their cars.
  3. Do you have any recommendations on the brakes? I have seen people say the Brembo breaks are okay if you upgrade the pads and get braided hose? Depends on how much you want to spend but that would be a good starting point. Best thing is to keep within your own limits and enjoy yourself. Trying to beat friends can be dodgy. (Sorry just realised how boring that sounds )
  4. I wouldn't get too excited about weight saving at this stage (albeit the Rays are the most obvious thing to do). If you think about it in terms of mathematics and percentages - with the starting weight of the Zed being nearly 3 times as much as many 7-esque cars, you have to do quite a bit to make a significant difference to times (albeit you may do quite a bit for feel - although care re balance as others have said earlier). I would add my vote to tyres and brakes being no.1 priority.
  5. Yep - I've starting looking at the Skyline Forum with the dedicated section and there is some useful info in there. There is also the issue that I own the 350 jointly with a mate (as per the Caterhams and Elise, etc earlier) so I need to check out his views as well. The advantage is that the Skylines are good value for money (my oppo and his wife have recently taken on a major house renovation project). I have also started to look at some cars that might be future classics. I feel like we may have missed the boat on the Merc R107s unless I want to get a bit of a basket case - I don't.
  6. Thank you Hiro and saihaynes. If I do decide to go down this route I will take advantage of your kind offers
  7. Pm replied to with all the answers I wanted. Thank you Tricky-Ricky The only issue is that body panels are not easily available but otherwise broadly speaking a 350z with a longer body. Hence, why the exhaust is longer, as per Alex's earlier reply.
  8. PM sent to TrickyRicky.....I looked through the postings and found before and after pictures of a ........... Skyline 350
  9. Thank you Alex. That helps a lot. Thanks everyone else. Will have a look at Ricky as opposed to Dicky
  10. Thanks Flex. I think it might be someone else because the TrickyDicky I can find hasn't made any posts as yet (or am I doing something wrong?)
  11. 1. What is the availability of "normal" parts - e.g. required for normal maintenance and repair - e.g. pads, disks, bushes, exhaust etc (think engine is same)? 2. Same question re parts availability for mild modification? Presumably would Uprev same? 3. As import is the level of underbody protection lower than a UK car? 4. Any big issues or concerns for, say, a 3 year ownership prospect? Left leg/knee shot so starting to look at autos (can't afford 370 - already know enough about 350 tip imports - I think/hope) Thanks, in advance.
  12. Ah..but the one I am getting is second hand. Theirs is new
  13. We have three 21/22 year old Toyota Corollas in the family. One of them may need an alternator before too long. I may not go for this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QH-ALTERNATOR-RC676826P-TO-FIT-TOYOTA-COROLLA-1-6-92-97-OE-QUALITY-/291053549877?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43c424b935 The one I am getting will be £1,990 cheaper - seems like a bargain.
  14. As it says favourites, I would say: For musicality - David Gilmour For their energy - Angus Young or Pete Townsend For virtuosity - John Entwistle (I presume bass players are allowed) Hang on...there's a theme here
  15. No - it was April 2008 Breakfast club....unbelievably. Caught us out. We were in a Caterham 7!
  16. Congratulations Will I didn't know Moderators had hats - where do you get them - ModeratorsRUs?
  17. Good luck with this. Hopefully it looks like you've got a bargain
