    bit of a odd one

They tried to solve that by changing the name to QX here (at least it wasn't called a Cedric) They tidied up the styling a bit with the later models.

    bit of a odd one

I've had 2 of these - a 2.0 as a company car and later a 3.0 as my own. Underrated The general consensus at the time was that it was a very good car which suffered from the badge and shape - I didn't care about either of those. Just means they are cheap.
  3. He made a couple of very small flicks beforehand as well...looked like he was trying to scrub off tiny amounts of speed. Scary.
  4. It's taken me a while to adapt to it.........you have to just sit back and relax I like different cars for different reasons...hence why I had a 2CV for a while and loved it ...a good way to learn about the laws of momentum.
  5. By the way this isn't a "Dan" type review (i.e. a proper one )....just a few thoughts having owned an 02 4.0 Coupe for a few months: There are certain things it's worth checking out before you buy one. The main issues I decided to focus on were (a) Not having Nikasil liners - early ones did ( Making sure latest tensioners, chains and guides have been fitted - early tensioners could fail © same re water pump (d) rust - on the X100 steel cars (e) they seem quite heavy on bushes - so I looked for suspension related issues (f) gearboxes were "filled for life" but ZF recommend oil and filter changes at 75k or every 8 years. On the test drive I identified a number of issues and they were resolved as part of the deal (drop-links, some bushes, steering rack). Nearly all the precautionary things have now been done on mine, including waxoyl underneath. I probably still need a couple of bushes done and then a 4 wheel alignment (next year's budget!). I needed an automatic (the legacy of a couple of knee ops a few years ago) and my co-owner had always fancied one of these. As ever, quite a bit of desk research was done but the car was sourced very quickly on instinct. Only had one modification which was to fit rear Adamesh exhaust - to get more V8 sound on throttle. The XK8 is exactly what I wanted at this point - a lazy V8 cruiser. The ride quality is incredibly good (tyres are run at a mid-setting between comfort and normal) and the handling is better than you expect it to be given the comfort level. At low throttle levels you just drive along on the torque and it's very quiet. If you put it in sport and apply the right pedal it's a proper V8. The ZF box is very smooth. You could drive hundreds of miles in this car in total comfort. I know the supercharged version is quicker but I wasn't that bothered (after the Sevens it is difficult replicate that sense of speed anyway). At low speeds the steering is too light for my tastes and slightly vague (as soon as speed rises it's kind of ok). However, it is unfair to compare it to the Zed or Elise where the steering is telepathic. Standard brakes are ok but not on a par with the Brembos. From most angles it looks great but rear overhang a bit long on Coupe (solved to some extent with later X150 model). Auto box can be a little bit slow witted in some circumstances (it seems to be mainly geared towards economy?). Overall, I am really enjoying the effortless nature of the car. Winter wheels/tyres have been sourced. Fuel economy levels are similar to Zed. No more mods planned (I can't see the point - it is what it is). Just put this here in case anyone else considers buying one in the future. In some respects, it feels like a car from a previous era - but in a good way.
  6. Started just to check out tips and research re some modifications. Now seems to be like cups of tea.... a thing I appear to need a few times a day.
  7. It's Jack Smith in Swansea who are the well known convertible roof people.
  8. My therapist said I needed to focus on my Twin Tub instead.
  9. I still get my mangle out on a frequent basis.
  10. This is the other thread with the price in it.
  11. There is a second almost identical thread showing a price of £250. It would appear some consolidation might be necessary?
  12. My first car - 1958 Standard 10 Last time I double de-clutched was probably on a 1958 Series 3 Hillman Minx. Subsequently discovered that the main reason for my gear changing problems stemmed from the fact that they bracket holding the change assembly to the chassis had become detached - it wasn't the only thing that had become detached. The MOTing garaged refused to move it from their car park, saying it was too dangerous. I sold it for £7 on the condition that I delivered it to a house in Oxted. My only excuse was that I was a penniless student.
  13. I dread to think what you lot get up to....it doesn't bear thinking about...on a full stomach anyway
  14. Have a good time chaps Look forward to seeing the photos.
  15. I don't have a Zed anymore but am still attached to this form like a particularly stubborn Limpet
  16. Having now seen this, I think mine must have been £28 for 2 as well - I wouldn't have paid £56 for 2!
  17. I did the same thing as you. Searched local roads etc - nothing. Local Nissan dealer had master set (as stated above). I think it was, indeed, £28 for another - I bought 2!
  18. I can only answer for myself. I don't think anyone I know is crying....they are simply concerned that the independence plan appears to have some substantive questions unanswered.....this would concern me if I was a Scot. Rightly or wrongly I am relaxed about it from a long term English perspective (there would be some short term pain). To me the stronger argument for yes is the emotional/control one...ie. we might make mistakes but they would be our mistakes....but objectively I would worry.
  19. I think on your first point if we don't get independent they will tighten the screws on us big time. They will take away our devolved powers or over ride them and it will be ok as they will say well you didn't want independence so this is what you voted for, being controlled by Westminster. I think people are being jealous and hostile on here because they want this for England. A revolution. A change. But they can't get it. Maybe I'm naive but I am genuinely amazed that you would think the majority would think that (assuming it's not a wind up).
