  1. 2 year gap, 55k miles and its a DE so it would have hard to read oil dip stick. I would be worried if the car burns any oil would it have been topped up right?

     

    I would also check if its been run on super unleaded as well as recently I have heard stories about some cars going bang.... 95 ron fuel and oil starvation may have been the causes.

  2. I am in the exact same boat as you, I just need to do abit more saving...

     

    Cars I have been looking at:

     

    Honda Integra DC2 basically a road track car from what I have heard

    Honda Integra DC5 same but newer, slightly less raw than the DC2 from what I have read.

     

    RX7 - This is my wildcard, someone I know has one of these and its not that highly modded. He has said to me that a sorted RX7 is unstoppable on the track in the right hands. Thing that scares me is the fact its a rotary engine and reliability is not there strong point. I have heard that they are fairly reliable if you know what your doing.

     

    Just my 2p

  3. Well after posting my first video shoot a week or so ago, I got some good hints on how to make a better one. I've made this today. I really want to get some more rolling shots but thats hard as I need to be a passenger in a 2nd car and some one to drive the zed.

     

    Anyway check it out guys. Subscribe if you like it as Im learning to use Final cut pro X and will be posting more video's all the time!

  5. My brother told me that Mark at Abbey mentioned a sensor/detector that limits the car when lower octane fuel is detected. Apparently this works up to 4500 revs or so and then reverts to standard. Both cars blew with revs around the 6000 mark, any more info on this would be good, particularly for you fortunate soles with cars that are running.

     

    I was saying the car's only have knock control up to 4800rpm as a stock after this RPM the car doesnt have knock control. This is all in the stock ECU. If the car see's heavy knock readings it will switch to the high detonation map which has around 5 degree's timing removed.

     

    The car that we have here that has failed hasnt had a bottom end failure from what we can see , it has had piston failure. The car had a full service prior to dyno work. 1st pull on the dyno I noticed some wrong spoke to Scott saying I think the car is running 95 Octane fuel , he spoke to the customer that confirmed it was running on 95 octane fuel.

     

    I have a feeling that the usage of 95 octane fuel may have caused weakening of the piston's maybe due to continual detonation over a long period.

    Does this mean if your running 95 Ron you need to keep it below 4800rpm as the knock control is lost thereafter and you will be getting det but the ECU is not aware? As your more likely to get det with 95 Ron?
