Cheers Dblock... Managed to run 80% of my cables now... including a pair of 12awg to my passenger door. Starter raining now so I can't do the drivers side Looking at how to approach the HU and amp install.... Any hints on where I can earth them both? I heard I can't use the standard earth for the HU? -
Took me TWO HOURS... (go I am useless!) but I now have a pair of 12awg to my doors via the standard cable route Thanks to Ikarus for the "How Too" - viewtopic.php?f=35&t=34905 Just got the drivers side to do now!

Going to pop to The ICE House on Saturday and have a listen... THEY recon I should go for the GERMANIUM setup! But I think that £350 might be a little heavy for me. -
Got a bit done over the weekend... Amp now fits PROPERLY in the Glove Box... Genesis Profile Four Ultra. The strap is to pull out the supporting bar at the back if/when I want to take the amp out. Special thanks for this setup go to big boy Carlos for the mdf support idea and getting the bits cut for me, V-Man for shaping and finishing the parts off and also Ma for trimming the bits. oh ... and my Relay for the extra amp fans is wired up (I think!)

Yup... the guy is a pretty big bloke. So I think if they had seen him, even WITH crow bars, they might have thought twice. But then again, they might not have. The FUNNY thing (if there is one) about it is . They had to move his girlfriends car (which was a 206 GTI 180 at the time) which she always said was LOADS better than his Subaru... and they moved it out of the way of the Impreza then left it!!! Soon shut her up

From other sources, I am being told that the rainbows might be a little harsh for me as they are hard cones rather than soft... is that right? DBlock... that is what the wink was for -
Getting close to putting the stereo in But I need a relay for controlling the fans under my AMP and I am USELESS with this sort of thing, way to complex for me! Does this look right? Think I have followed the instructions on this site http://www.bcae1.com/relays.htm correctly, as it seems to work! but I want to double check.. I have no fancy power supply, so the power is from two 9v batteries plugged together Positive(In) Red--------- 30 (Positive from battery) Remote Grey ----------- 85 Black/Purple ----------- 86 (Negative from battery) Positive(out) Green ------ 87 (Positive to light) Black -- Negative from light to negative battery It seems to work OK but can anyone confirm that this is the right setup?

Cheers for the Rainbow info Not sure I want that Focal French crap in my car though -
Planning my install and all I have left to sort is my components. So far I have.. Pioneer P4300DVD - HU Genesis Profile Four Ultra - AMP JL 10w3v3 - SUB So far so good. But I am struggling to work out the comps to go for. I am looking for Sound Quality and I prefer a rounder warmer sound than a spikey harsh one. So SQ not SPL. Mostly listening to Metal, classic rock and classical. i.e. Pink Floyd, Amon Tobin, Pantera, Led Zeppelin , Frank Zappa, Faith No More My budget is £200 but I could stretch to £250 for great speakers. Perfectly happy to have second hand from someone who has run them clean. Going onto my Zed which takes 6.5"... The tweets are going to have to have a build done, so the size of them isn't a huge issue. My main problem is there seems to be no-where round my way with DECENT comps available to listen to. Would I be MAD to buy something on-line without even hearing/trying them? Years ago when I was listening to comps for my old car, I chose Rainbows as they were the nicest out f the ones I heard after a "blind" test in "The ICE House" in Stoke. Never ended up putting them in the car (as I sold it) but I have always thought Rainbows would be the way to go next time I bought. So, anyone have any comments on any rainbows in my price range? Till then, the short-list for me to try/hear are: Audison VOCE AV K6 Hertz HSK CDT Audio HD's (Second hand?) Hertz Mille (Second hand?) Rainbows (Any point in putting these on the list?) Hybrid Imagine Suggestions/comments What to people recommend?

Someone I know had the "Blackjacks" system fitted to their impreza. Three theives broke into the house (wih a crobars, while he was in bed), took the keys, drove it 500meters before it died due to lack of fuel. Then they got out and used said crowbars to smash the whole car up. Every panel, every window, even inside. In miniutes, before the cops turned up, while he was watching. Wrote the car off.

New HU need help with Loom/Steering control please
slimjim replied to slimjim's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Yes you will need the ICT 29-674 mate. The blurb on the Sextons website states "To use the Steering Wheels Control function of this loom you must get a corresponding lead to match your head unit. These have part numbers 29-***". I took that to read that you need the ICT 29-674 AND the 20-00x leads together to get your brand of H/U working with the 350z Steering Wheel controls Worth reading this thread for info viewtopic.php?f=27&t=16403 You mean the link in my opening post? I spoke to them at Sextons and they said I only needed the 007 cable as I am not linking the HU to the old system. But SpursMadDave says I may need 020.... Any more info Dave? -

SpursMadDave... I have gone for the P4300DVD. Should arrive on Monday. Are you saying the 007 will NOT work? And I need the 020? Do I ALSO need the extra cable/harness? DRGinger, have a look at the link in my first post -

slimjim replied to slimjim's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
So do you think I ALSO will need the ICT 29-674? I thought all that did was link a new head unit to the old loom. And the ICT 29-00*(7 in my case) linked the head unit to the steering controls? -

slimjim replied to slimjim's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Inline booster? What for? The HU is NOT linking to ANY standard equipment. Only all brand new stuff that I have installed. Amps, Subs, speakers.... Not sure what I would need an inline booster for? (Cheers for the shout though!) -
New HU need help with Loom/Steering control please
slimjim replied to slimjim's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Right... found it all guys I rang Sextons and they sorted it all out for me. The Pioneer 29-007 was in stock but not on the website, so they updated the website so I could get it Plus, they said as I am putting a new head unit it with NO link to the old wiring, I don't need a harness -
New HU need help with Loom/Steering control please
slimjim replied to slimjim's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
I think that MIGHT be wrong... I don't think I need the loom as I am replacing ALL the loom/cables with NEW. NOT using the existing stuff at all. APART FROM the steering wheel controls. So do I need this loom to get the steering wheel controls to work? Or... looking at the extra steering remote ... something like this http://www.sextonsdirect.co.uk/ict/p~29-005.html?cat=0 There are ones listed for Kenwood, Sony, JVC, Clarion and Alpine... but there ISN'T one for Pioneer Anyone know where I can get one for Pioneer? -
Looking to replace my standard HU with a Pioneer. but I presume will need a harness converter to control it from the new HU? I have had a look here viewtopic.php?f=27&t=16403 but I am getting confused with all the different options My car is a 2003 GT with a BOSE setup. But I am taking ALL the BOSE setup out and replacing it all. So all I really need to know is what converter I need so my HU can be controlled with my steering wheel controls. Can anyone help?

Where are your reflectors? Looks like points to me...

Painting with glue? Yup, been painting with glue. Wanted to make sure the box was totally sealed, so I re sealed the inside and outside joins with wood glue. Then painted the whole thing with a glue solution (5:1 then 3:1) to make sure the whole thing it totally air tight Next on the list... foam lining the inside walls of the box.
