Neo.
Perhaps you will let me know when you fit the soundproofing and what results you achieve.
Until then i,m only gonna drive with the roof down ! and a hearing aid switched full on !
Never done any mods before but i,ve got " Zed fever " now so onwards and upwards. Need to spend my savings before my sons get their hands on them !
Gotta change my taste in music too.... Sinatra doesn,t sound the same in a Zed !
My Passat coupe is for everyday and 56 mpg. Zed is for driving over the Dales at weekends.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Cougar warns of drone on the system without the mid box which is why i chose the mid on.
Not to worry though cause i won,t be doing too much low rev driving this year !
I,m also aware that the volume might well increase with the HFC,s fitted..... but it,s taking years off me !
Think my problems with the bolts on show might be fixable with a little adjustment.
Thanks again

Hi.
Looks a good deal.
I sold my dark blue 07 plate last july with 14k miles on for £ 13750.
Mind you, it had frost grey leather seats and looked stunning.Black seats don,t look so good in my opinion but then it,s a matter of choice and practicality.

Received my new Cobra backbox and middle section with silencer on Wednesday on the date promised by Cougar stores.
The box was enormous with loads of padding boxes inside. After unwrapping i was a little dissapointed to see several scratches on the polished Cobra surface of the back box but as no one will ever see it i see no point in raising this issue.
Had the system fitted today by Tyre Spot in Darlington ( £ 40 ) and immediately noticed how lightweight it is compared to the stock system. No problems with fitting and the mechanic commented on the high quality of Cobra.
Visual inspection once the ramp was lowered was good but i am really dissapointed that the rear cans are secured by large circlips with ugly bolts that can clearly be seen.To be honest, i thought they would be welded on like the stock exhaust. They are also an inch or so shorter than standard so you can see that they are attached to a narrower pipe ( when standing close to the car.)
Firing the car up, i was pleased that on tickover there was not much increase in volume so i can at least warm it up before waking the neighbours.
Few minutes later i gradually increased revs and the reason i decided to change became perfectly clear again. great bellowing sound over 3500 revs and a snap, crackle, pop as you lift off.Very pleased so far.
Off for a twenty mile shopping trip with the wife who approved and said it wasn,t what she expected. ( my son had a big bore chavvy job fitted on his car years ago and she wasn,t happy.)
Gave the car some spirited driving arouns our country roads and very inpressed with the sound. Once on the dual carriageway i settled down into sixth at 2500 to 3000 rpm and was surprised at the level of drone inside the car.Quite uncomfortable really.
To avoid the drone i will need to drop down a gear and go for 3000 plus revs or drive like a senior citizen ( i am ) and do some serious cruising with the seat pulled as far forward as it will go.
Seriously, to summarise, yes it,s a well made exhaust at the budget end of the performance end of the ranges available. It does the job you expect and the car now sounds like a powerful sports car as it should.
I have filmed the two systems operating and will post as soon as i work out how !
New Y pipe from Cobra to fit next week , followed by high flow decats week after. then around to the front end to sort out induction.
Thanks for reading

CS. Thanks for the reply. Really looking forward to tomorrow. Will order the y pipe when I get back.
Don,t know that much about the tuning side but I,m researching every night now. Guess I,ve got zed fever.... Gives us pensioners a passion at least.!
One last thing. Do I need to start looking at decat pipes and headers now ? If so... Do you supply ?

Just ran the vid as it was finished on the ramp. Sounds vicious ! Guess you went for the 90 db version without the middle box. I live in a sleepy little village and set off to work at 5 am. That will wake the lazy b........ Up methinks.

Thanks cs.
Guess I need to order the y pipe then.
Just get it fitted tomorrow, check out the sound and make next decision.
I read somewhere on the Abbey site that there will be no performance improvement cause the ecu will automatically adjust back down. Ant thoughts ?
Good to get so many responses guys...gals

Hi again.
Like the looks of the cobra seen from below. The back box looks a lot smaller than i imagined though.
Still it,s the sound i,m after. nobody looks underneath the car unless i,ve ran them over !
Question / does the y pipe make any improvement to sound or performance ? next planned upgrade to the zorst.
cheers

A humpie cobra ? That would be a snake with the hump. Maybe a dodge y viper.
Will Record the different sound notes on my new I pad 3. Amazing hd clarity and sound.
Cheers

Thanks cs and yes I did see the two clips that you posted along with a few others on YouTube.
Would like to have a comparison of db levels against the stock exhaust.
As for the French horn Kinabalu, I will insert a Mozart cd and perhaps conduct the exhaust !
Thanks for the reply

26 mpg and definitely £270 for tax. Bought my third zed 6 weeks ago and so these figures are recent.
Hope you have a great first drive and welcome.

Amazing result Ian.
I will be going on your list as soon as funds permit. New Cobra going on this weekend and Rays refurb next.
What about refurbing the stock gear knob. Seen a lot of grubby ones about and not everyone wants the aftermarket type.

Cheap little run around for the missus me thinks. Should look good outside Lidl.
-
Think that knob is rotten ! Should be able to buy some knobrot cream from somewhere ?
-
Sounds pricey but the mileage is a good selling point. I paid a little under 9k for my 05 uk gt pack roadster with just 13800 miles on two weeks ago.
Point worth checking... if it has the original tyres, check for cracking between the treads. My two rears had but i allready decided to put a full set of Falken 452,s on anyway.

Just joking Shane. I hail from Brum so you know our sense of humour is off the wall.
64 actually.

Welcome Shane. You will be the same age as one of my grandchildren !
Zed owners never die they just uprev.
-
Good for you. Hope you have many happy miles together. Great looking Zed.

Just changed to Falken 452s from Potenzas. It,s a big improvement and only cost £540 fitted. Mind you front and rear wheel alignment was out and cost £ 75 to correct.
Potenzas still had 3mill left but were starting to crack as they were the original seven year old tyres with 14000 miles on.
Uprev in the north east ?

Thanks Beavis but RS closest is in Northants, about 150 miles away.
Was hoping for someone up here.
