  1. Going back a long time ago a mate of mine had one of the last VW Beetle's sold in The U.K (1973-74?) and into this he fitted a Porsche 914 engine from a wreck he bought. O.K, it was only 110 or so BHP but it was sure fast for the time. Pete
  2. I don't really know how they did it, it was one of 3 options I had to chose from. The company that did it was Collins Performance in Congleton who specialize in Fords and still do RS Turbo conversions. Mine was the 195 option, just a chip and a wastegate actuator, cost me around £300 in 1991, the full 225 conversion was (from memory) a couple of grand. Mine didn't come with a boost gauge although I saw it tested with one in and I can't remember what boost it ran. http://www.collinsperformance.com/ Pete
  3. I guess so but I covered about 116,000 miles in it without any problems. Sold it in 2001 and according to The DVLA site it's still taxed. BTW, there was a 225 bhp package for that engine. No engine mods but upgraded brakes and suspension. Pete
  4. Maybe if they introduced a review system as in Tennis, Cricket, Rugby with strict limits on the number of reviews . Pete
  5. Wales have it even worse than England in that respect, we already see Gareth Bale missing matches and in the past the likes of Ian Rush, Mark Hughes, Dean Saunders and Craig Bellamy missed tons of Wales games, especially friendlies. Used to be a problem for Scotland too back in the 80's when they had some decent players . There's something else too, just look at the people that follow England and the banners they wave, ever see a Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs banner? The big clubs supporters don't give a hoot about England and they're quite happy when their star players don't play in Internationals. Pete
  6. I saw a Black or Rose 370Z Roadster with its roof down on the A55 heading into Wales this morning, seemed to be on its own though. Pete
  7. I had my Escort RSTurbo mapped from 130 to 195 BHP and didn't see any significant difference in MPG....That was a long time ago though. Pete
  8. I usually change up to 6th at around 55-60 but I'll let it drop to 40, maybe slightly lower if I'm in traffic then drop down a gear or two once I'm free of traffic. As Coldel points out the idea is not to labour the engine, especially if you're determined to use 95 RON fuel . Pete
  9. There's only Gareth Bale and he's Welsh . Whether or not we have the best league in the world is debatable but we certainly have the richest and unless you're good enough to play for one of the Spanish giants I see little financial incentive in playing abroad. Pete
  10. The report I read said 0-62 in 2.1 seconds, that's as fast as a 2014 Mercedes F1 car . Pete
  11. Anyone going to either of The Yorkshire stages? Pete
  12. Double check the destination of your train as you might finish up in Carlisle instead of Chester. Make a mental note of where you've parked your car at Alton Towers. Never sniff an unmarked jar that you've retrieved from under your sink, it may contain ammonia . Always check that the deodorant you're about to spray under your arms isn't in fact your wife's under arm hair remover. And finally, don't assume that a herd of cows are going to part like The Red Sea when you walk towards them! Pete
  13. I don't think they have any legal grounds to appeal, it's nothing to do with them. I think they'll be more interested in making sure they can sell him on (the ruling is not clear) while the ban is in force. This is a most unusual case, other than bribery, I can't think of a single case of a player receiving a club ban while playing for his country or a country ban while playing for his club. Having scoured through the Liverool F.C forums there is a growing number, I'd say a majority now who think he's just too poisonous to remain at the club. Pete
  14. I guess everyone has pet hates when it comes to cars. Mine would be the Subaru, ugly as sin and around here they all seem to be driven by shaven headed guys in their late 20's and 30's who think they are on The RAC Rally every time they go out . Pete
  15. First car I drove was my Dad's MK 1 Ford Cortina. I drove it about a mile. Didn't drive another car for over 2 years after my first attempt. Pete
  16. When I worked at British Steel one of my jobs was to cut and prepare samples for analysis using a hydraulic guillotine. As the steel was at this stage pretty thick (1/4") the guillotine would often jam and we had a device very much like a starting handle to wind the guillotine up. Luckily, I always removed it before I restarted the guillotine but a couple of guys forgot to remove it and took enormous damage to their shins as it would spin at an incredible rate once the machine was restarted...ouch. Dangerous places Steelworks . Pete
  17. They have indeed appealed. Liverpool will have their lawyers looking at this too, apparently he isn't even allowed to train. Pete

    Ireland?

    That's just ridiculous . Pete
  19. Lotus also put the Renault 16 engine in The S2 Europa. It was the only part on the car that didn't break during my ownership. The later Europa's had the far more sexy, powerful Twin Cam Ford engine but they only lasted 30k without a rebuild (if you were lucky) Pete
  20. Indeed, Franz Beckenbauer has just had a ban from all forms of football from FIFA. Pete
  21. Facelift bumpers were restyled around the headlights so I don't see how they can fit both. Pete
  22. Could be photoshopped though? Pete
  23. I've just looked at a close up photo of The Italians shoulder and they look like teeth marks to me. I'm at a loss really but I think Liverpool would probably be best off selling him, that is if anyone wants him after he completes what is bound to be a lengthy ban, maybe as long as 12 months. Pete

    Keyed

Yes, I worked there for 11 years, 11,500 employees plus 2,000 contractors at its peak around 1970. Something like a 6 mile drive from the entrance of the steelworks to my normal place of work . Pete
