  1. 75% chance of steady rain for qualy which should liven things up a bit. Only 25% for raceday and that is more likely to fall in showers. Pete
  2. Sadly, our Black Cat, Sooty, had to be put to sleep recently. He was 15 and we found him in our garden as a kitten together with his brother and his mum. They both passed away last year so he was the last of the family. Anyway, we decided to get a Bengal kitten (and finished up with 3 of them ) . They are very interesting, to say the least and definitely not for beginners, they are noisy, hyperactive, love water and can leap to amazing heights. On the plus side though they are very friendly, almost dog like really and shed very little hair. Anyway, here's one of them together with one of her friends, our 1 year old Calico. More pictures later. Pete
  3. Perhaps you could ask himself when he gets back? MONEY, MONEY, MONEY... His Dad is pretty well off, sold his company and picked up a cool £73 Mill, should keep Max and his brother in a drive for a while I think. Pete
  4. Definitely out West, some fantastic mountain passes in Colorado that go up to 10,000 or 11,000 feet. However, America isn't like Europe, because of the geography and the available land roads are built in a different way. Americans like straight line roads and the flatter the surface the flatter the roads. Florida is very flat and it has very flat and straight roads, kinda boring after 30 miles of orange groves . Mid west is pretty much the same except you can substitute the orange groves for wheat/corn fields and add about 500 miles! Even in the Rockies though you'll be hard pushed to find mountain pass roads like say for example the Stelvio. The roads are built with heavy trucking in mind so while some of the big passes like The Monarch are very long, the gradients are a lot less and the roads rarely have sharp switchbacks. Anyway, there are still some amazing roads not only in Colorado but in Utah, Arizona (which isn't as flat as most people think) and New Mexico. Then there's Highway 12 in Utah , the most amazing road I've ever driven. Pete
  5. Sorry to hear this. Caroline's Zed was also lightly keyed (or at least scratched somehow) recently. Sadly, the paint is so thin that it was nigh on impossible to buff it out and the repair job arranged by Ricey was £300. The keying or whatever was on all panels down one side. Pete
  6. It's been a while since I stayed in a Motel 6, they're a bit basic for my liking . However, keep in mind that Motel 6's are very popular and quite often booked for months in advance especially in peak holiday time. Also applies to Motel 6's near National Parks and Big Cities all year round. I usually use Super 8 or Days Inn which work out a bit more expensive but that would entirely depend on the town/city. I paid $40 for a Super 8 in Holbrook, Arizona, but the one in Cody, Wyoming (near to Yellowstone) was a staggering $115. Pete
  7. Yes, best checking before you get there really. I've just checked the Cruise America site and they haven't changed their requirements since I last rented an RV in 2010 Driver requirements: The vehicle can only be operated by qualified drivers over the age of 21, possessing a valid and identifiable driving licence. A major credit card and passport are required as identification prior to rental and will be verified. All drivers must be listed on, and sign, the Rental Contract and will be bound by the terms and conditions of the Rental Contract at vehicle pick-up. There are no charges for additional drivers and no supplement for drivers under 25 years of age. Pete
  8. I've never had a photo licence (or an IDP), just the old paper one that was first issued to me in 1974 and I've hired cars and RV's without any problem in The States. Pete
  9. Easy, use Google Chrome and in the top left hand corner there's a translate button . Pete
  10. +1 although I've yet to see one in the flesh. Pete
  11. Well, I did some checking and there are 16 fixed speed cameras in North Wales, 13 of which are in Flintshire and Wrexham, Anglesey and Gwynedd have none. There is also one on the English side of the border (by about a yard) between Flintshire and Cheshire. However, the "arrive alive" or "go safe" vans are far more likely to catch offenders as they move around between sites. This site on The A5 just up the road from Chris is a favourite spot for the "go safe" vans at weekends. Pete
  12. Absolutely agree , but can you believe that there isn't a single traffic light camera in the entire North Wales police area!!! Pete
  13. O.K, so I've had to move to another machine permanently and the smiley icons are also unavailable on this machine too (XP SP2, same as the one I was using before) . I can see them but they are greyed out, is there a setting I need to change somewhere? As you can see I can't access any of the features. Thanks, Pete
  14. Never done mine by post. Back in the 70's you could take it to a licensing office in Mold, then when that closed there was one in Chester. After that (late 70's)I used to pop up to the post office in Buckley or Mold and for the past 10 years I've been doing it online. Pete
  15. Yep, lots of irresponsible parents in The States who buy their testosterone fuelled kids high powered cars such as The Zed. Pete
  16. We always give ours to the cats. You can spend £30 on a deluxe cat basket but they always prefer to sleep/play in an old box. Pete
  17. I wish the internet was about to research road trips in 1978. I drove right past that road driving from Innsbruck to Zurich back then. Pete
  18. Great pics!! I love this one, the amount of scree is unbelievable. Pete
  19. Had the renewals on both the Zeds through recently. Quite a pleasant surprise, mine had dropped £10 to £320 and Caroline's was also down some £40, also to £320. I sometimes wonder how they come up with these figures as the roadster is supposedly a group higher than the coupe and I declared all my mods but that didn't add anything to my quote. Pete
  20. Just found out and I'm shocked and saddened. Pete
