  1. It's their religion and for most of them their own choice to wear such things. They are conditioned from birth to accept that this is what they must do. Nothing exceptional about Muslims though it happens to one degree or another in many religions, Mormons, Catholics, Witnesses and many other Christian based religions as well. It's a common sight in parts of Colorado to see Amish women dressed in pioneer style clothing. Pete
  2. Living up here in rural North Wales I'd never seen anyone wearing a Burka until I visited my daughter in Cardiff 4 years ago. Sinister looking things and quite Klu Klux Klanish. I have to reluctantly admire women that wear them though, they frequently get spat at and verbally abused, must be hard for them. Pete
  3. That was a perverse stroke of luck. Had mine fitted at a body shop and I think they bonded it on with resin so when I backed into a post mine stayed on but damaged the diffuser. Pete
  4. Despite one of my earlier posts, I'm very pro European and using the Euro wouldn't worry me in the least but the way things are going I seriously doubt that what is left of The U.K will still be in The EU by 2020. Pete
  5. I basically agree with that. Same thing in a devolved Wales, most of the population live in and around Cardiff, that's where the money get spent. I don't expect Scotland is or will be much different in that respect with its main population in a relatively small area and the extremes where the population is quite low feeling left out. Pete
  6. Neither did I. When Caroline asked me how old she was I said about 90 or 91 and I'm usually very good at older celebrity ages. I'm 65 and she seems to have been around forever and yes, she was very funny Pete
  7. Yes, that is certainly the case. Tankers will fill up at either one of the 5 major refineries or at one of the 3 terminals served by a network of underground pipes such as the one at Buncefield that blew up in 2005 and caused the largest fire in The U.K since WW2. All the fuel that is supplied to every garage forecourt in North Wales, Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester comes from Stanlow, this is normal practice in the petroleum industry. At these terminals there will be tanks of additive, each one dedicated to the company marketing and selling the petrol (such as BP, Texaco, etc) It makes little sense for Esso Fawley to supply for example Esso stations in Glasgow. There was a period when some Supermarket chains would buy fuel from the spot market in Rotterdam but I don't think they do this now. Pete
  8. One idea that's in use on other forums and could save some embarrassment in the future would be to give members that have passed away a different title or colour, just an idea. Pete
  9. There must be a reason why Nissan have persevered for so long with the 370Z. Pete
  10. I recently returned to a forum I'd not posted in since 2011 and found I'd been deleted . Pete
  11. Mate of mine has one. It's an M reg, purple with a huge wing on the back of it, I'm not 100% certain but I think he bought it when it was about 12 months old. He is in pretty much the same boat as you, keeps it stored and just brings it out for MOT's and a quick run around the block on the odd occasion. He's into Fords and also has a Focus ST but last time I spoke to him in April he was agonising about selling it as he wanted to buy a Focus RS. Don't know the mileage because he used it until around 2003 so probably a bit higher than yours. Pete
  12. I worked for an oil additive company that supplied Shell with the early version of V-Power namely Optimax. This was a complete package developed in conjunction with Shell at Thornton Research and was exclusive to Shell. This contained a lot more than just an octane booster including dispersants, detergents, anti-oxidants, inhibitors etc and was pretty expensive, a tanker load of this cost Shell £40k back in the early 2000's. The Octane booster itself is relatively cheap so I'm guessing that Tesco will just have the octane booster and a minimal amount of other additives to keep the forecourt price down. Pete
  13. Good, does that mean we can leave then . Pete
  14. Some interesting news. http://formulaspy.com/news/formula-1-news/eu-considering-russian-gp-cancellation-sanction-5438 Pete
  15. 1: Nobody can really say. It is mainly in the hands of the respective governments to negotiate but The U.K government should not bow down to threats from the nationalists over the share of U.K debts and do what's best for what remains of The U.K. The U.K has no obligation to share its currency with a foreign state, it didn't share with Ireland when they left The U.K. Scotland could join the Euro or better still have its own currency mirroring the £ as Ireland did with the punt. 2. No doubt in my mind that Scotland will be welcomed into The E.U. This is more complex though as they'll be dealing with a myriad of countries who will each have their own agenda but I can't see why there should be any major problems. 3. Too much is made of Oil in this debate. Scotland has only a fraction of oil compared to say Saudi or Kuwait and The U.K managed just fine before North Sea oil was discovered. But it's a good question. Scotland suffered more than most during the Thatcher years, its heavy industry was decimated so they're going to have to come up with something else. This is a tricky one for The Scots, they need to attract people into Scotland, get them to remain there when the oil is gone and avoid the cycle of depopulation that's plagued Scotland for centuries. Pete
  16. I would imagine that The Scot Nats would want to start negotiations as soon as possible with the current U.K government, they won't want to wait until the next election. They are aiming to have their independence day in March 2016 , just ahead of the next Scottish election. Although very likely, there's no guarantee that the Scots Nats will win the next general Election and they'll want to get their agenda through in the unlikely event that Labour will win the election, due in May 2016. Although AFAIK the result of the referendum will be binding I'm sure Labour will have different priorities to the SNP. For example they may not want to remove Nuclear Weapons . Pete
  17. You can have whatever flag you wan't so there'll be no change. As for Rangers fans, yes they'll still wave their Union Jacks and the Celtic fans will still wave their Irish flags. BTW, Every American State has it's own flag, one of them still uses the Union Jack Pete
  18. True story....One of my mates started having major problems with his lawn mower, on inspection he realized it wasn't his lawn mower, same make but not his, eventually he tracked it down to a neighbour who had stolen my mates mower and replaced it with his own Pete
  19. Britain is somewhat unique in that it has 4 countries (plus The Isle of Man/Channel Islands) within 1 country. This has been something of a bone of contention with some countries complaining that we get 4 places in the world cup. I can't think of a single country that has voted for independence because outside of The U.K every country is already independent. , I can think of plenty of regions that have voted for independence or become independent through other means but this has mainly been for ethnic, language or cultural differences and not economic ones. I can however think of a country that merged with another country after a vote and that was Newfoundland which was an independent country until the late 1940's. Also, Quebec has twice voted against independence, last time in 1995. Pete
  20. That would probably be Cal. he lives in the Llandudno area. Pete
  21. Some years ago I traded my Escort XR3i for a Capri 2.8i at Stormont in Liverpool. A few months later a couple of policemen came to my door and asked me why one of Liverpool's best known drug dealers was driving around in my Escort . Pete
  22. If it's an 08 then it's most likely to be an HR in Pearl White, rare beasts. Pete
