Short term insurance for newly qualified driver
JetSet replied to ioneabee's topic in Off Topic Discussion
O.K, I used a company called Fortis, they have now changed their name to Aegas. This involved me insuring the car for 12 months and adding my daughter as a named driver. This would allow her to drive the car for I think 30 days per year. You could choose which days you wanted by popping in to the insurance brokers and nominating the period you needed cover for. We did it in blocks of 10 days and there was an additional fee (something like a tenner) for each block as I remember it. Pete -
Views on Scotish Independance.."The Countdown" The Result"
JetSet replied to WhackyWill's topic in Off Topic Discussion
The result, who knows. There's no exit poll either and the first results aren't expected until 2 in the morning. I expect it'll be a long night Pete -
Could just be me but I've found that in the past if I had a TV fixed then something else went wrong with it a few months later. Pete

I've been there quite a few times, first time as long ago as 1981 . I stayed at the now demolished Glass Pool Inn down by the airport. There wasn't really much there back then, everything was compressed into a small area in the centre of what is now the strip. Went again in 1996 when New York, New York was under construction and again in 2001 and 2007. My word, the place has mushroomed and changed since I first went. Have to say I've only ever stayed for 2 or 3 days at a time, I found the place overwhelming really, just too many people, Traffic is crazy, the heat there in the summer is quite staggering and its a bit seedy . It's a place that you must visit though as I don't think there's anything like it anywhere else in the world. I'll scan in some my old photos when I get a minute or two Pete

Yes, those are the ones I bought. On deep dish wheels its difficult to get the Allen Key in to undo or tighten them and the grub screws rust like crazy. It's also amazingly easy to lose the Allen Key . I was also concerned that using brute force on them would strip the valve thread. . Pete

Artists impression.....looks like there's limited access as presumably it's been drawn over an aerial photo. Then again Oulton Park, Silverstone and Mallory Park are in the middle of nowhere. Pete

Caroline had the 2 rear Z logo tyre caps nicked off her Zed during the school holidays. Luckily I had 3 spare Z caps from a previous set, the 4th one had lost its Z. I did fit locking caps but they were so awkward to get off that I removed the grub screw Pete

I didn't leave home till I was 24 and gave my mum 25% of my salary . I had enough saved by then to get a 90% mortgage though. Pete

Looking good. Pete

Definitely related, they're from the Scarab family of beetles, found just about everywhere in the world. Pete

Some years ago now I stayed in a Motel in a place called Needles in California. It was extremely hot but the pool was open until midnight (it was still 36 degrees). When we returned to our room we had been invaded with a species of flying chafer, very similar to this. About 1"1/2 long, not very nice at all. They were mainly on the carpet with a few on the wall about a dozen in all. Couldn't possibly sleep until I'd managed to throw out all the ones I could find. Pete

I've seen reports of prosecutions at 32 but the lowest confirmed speeding ticket I've seen ,a picture of it was posted on here, was 34. BTW, somebody was caught a couple of miles away from here on The A55 doing 131.5 in a Corsa . His excuse, he was late on his way to Demon Tweeks http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/138108/mynydd-isa-driver-clocked-doing-131mph-on-a55.aspx Pete

Just my opinion but the world is going through it's most dangerous phase since since The Cuban Missile crises in 1962. I was 13 at the time and was absolutely terrified as war seemed inevitable. What we have here is a belligerent Russia testing out just where the red line is, a dynasty of rulers in a nuclear armed North Korea that are completely out of touch with reality and that's just for starters. The list of conflicts and potentially dangerous conflicts is probably higher right now than at any time in my lifetime. IS are without doubt the most brutal and sadistic bunch of thugs since The Nazis and at some stage or other they will have to be dealt with, leaving them to run amok isn't an option and right now I don't see any alternative to boots on the ground if we are to eradicate this cancer. Pete.

Sounds about right. Pete

I found it very difficult to assess teachers and in fact people in general's ages when I was 16, anyone over 21 looked ancient to me Pete

A bad day really as we also lost Donald Sinden and the veteran English actor John Barden Pete

Just browsing through some old photos and found this. Charlie, sadly no longer with us, passed away in 2006. Pete

Nismo says ' Hi Dave!' The lil bugger is going through his first moulting season right now and the carpet looks like it's got a layer of snow all over it haha. I had to move back in with my folks a month or so ago so not only have they had a wayward daughter return to the family home, they've also had a dog forced upon them and about 6 tonnes of loose fluff breaking the Dyson. Lucky parents lol. Skyhigh - Tonk is a stunner! Black cats have such regality to them but Tonk's also got that mischievous look S. Yeah our cat is a big ball of fluff at the best of times but at the moment she leaves a ton of fur everywhere... That's one of the beauties of Bengals, they shed almost no hair and most people, not all though, who suffer with cat allergies will get on fine with them. Pete

RIP Richard Kiel, a gentle giant
JetSet replied to The Bounty Bar Kid's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Yes, he wasn't your normal very tall guy either as he suffered from a form of gigantism. Pete -
Do all the people on here during normal hours work from home?
JetSet replied to Neilp's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Retired . When I worked I didn't have a set workload, some days and nights I was really mad busy and sometimes it was quiet. I didn't have any targets to meet other than I had to be 100% right, 100% of the time but that's analytical chemistry for you. I had only limited access to the internet (approved sites only) so tended to read in my free time. Pete -

RIP but he died after breaking his leg I heard? I don't think he died from the broken leg though did he? He could have had a fat embolism, that's when bone marrow enters the blood stream. That's what happened to the racing driver Ronnie Peterson . Pete -

Yes, a giant of a man, 7' 2", even Will would have looked small next to him . Great villain though, amazingly he only spoke 3 words in The 2 Bond films. RIP Pete
