Thanks ZZZebady and Will. The split is at the rear on the drivers side as you say, the area that has the highest tension. I'll look into it and try and get something fixed up over the weekend as the water is making the seatbelt wet . I will post some photos in this thread but the car isn't here right now and it's dark both in the morning and when Caroline gets home. Pete

In 1994 it was 14.2 C around here on Christmas Day, U.K record is 16, set in Scotland strangely, so I guess there's a remote chance . Pete

There's also one in Wales until the 21st November. Pete -
Well, sad to report that Caroline's roof has a one inch long tear on the outside, is it possible to patch it? The cars not here at the moment but I'll get some photos up on Thursday. Pete

Is there any fair play in F1? That's the problem Dave, they draw up rules and the teams bend them to the furthest limit possible and often beyond. Teams have been fined/banned for illegal fuel, oversize fuel tanks, obtaining rival teams car designs, crashing deliberately, underweight cars and just look at Mercedes who got away with testing their car when testing clearly wasn't allowed. Other sports have different problems, doping in Cycling, Athletics, American Football, Horse Racing, throwing games for financial gain in Snooker and Cricket, Shocking gamesmanship, thuggery and out and out cheating in Football. To add to that F1 has one of the most corrupt sporting authorities in the world although to be fair, nobody comes close to FIFA or The International Olympic Committee when it comes to corruption/bribery. Rant over! EDIT, one of the most bizarre incidents in Motor Racing involved a couple of Racing Drivers called Tony Dean and Bobby Brown. They set up a Formula 5000 team in the late 1970's and would race, fairly competitively it must be said in both The British F5000 and The American F5000 series. It turned out though that whole racing thing was an illegal front for smuggling cigars into The U.K as their spare car would be packed to the hilt with hidden cigars. Dean, now deceased, was caught and did some time in prison while Brown never returned to The U.K. Pete

Slightly off topic, but a guy I worked with at British Steel had to go round collecting samples of water from all of the wells that were used to supply cooling water to the power station that British Steel had within the works. Most of these wells were down private gated tracks in Shotwick or on The River Dee marshes. It was at one of these remote wells that he found a wallet containing about £100, quite a large sum of money in the mid 70's and a wage slip. The guy the wallet belonged to was somebody very high up in Flintshire County Council (his salary was in the £40k bracket) and it was pretty easy to guess what he was doing there . Anyway, my work mate tracked him down and returned the wallet to him discretely . Pete -

Nothing I can think of as the last car I bought second hand for myself was a Capri 2.8i in 1983. Pete -
Caroline needed a wireless A3 printer so we read a few reviews then went to Office World in Chester and bought a Brother printer. We also have a Black and white laserjet wireless printer (an HP) and a wireless A4 photo printer, also HP. Caroline does a lot of printing . BTW, I still have the HP printer I bought in 1995 a Deskjet 560C . Pete

The Company at the back of my house "Deeside Trucks" repair all sorts of vehicles and are a main dealer for Scania. Every so often they have an open day for prospective customers (who quite often arrive in Helicopters). Several years ago now they had about 6 brand new Scania Cabs lined up ready for the open day. Yes, you guessed it they all had their wheels stolen, goodness knows how they managed it as the site is in operation 24/7, they have security cameras and they also have just one entrance which is electronically operated from inside the workshop at night. O.K, it's possible that someone could have parked outside and the wheels manhandled over the 10 feet high security fence but that would have been so risky as the entire parking area is lit up like a Christmas tree. Anyway, some years after that they had a wagon stolen with about 40k's worth of Aluminium ingots on board, must have had some method of by passing the electronic gate as CCTV pictures showed the wagon going through an open gate. What's all this starting a sentence with "so" ?
JetSet replied to ATTAK Z's topic in Off Topic Discussion
lots of F1 drivers use this Yes, Niki Lauda was first person I ever heard use this, maybe late 70's. When the swimmer Ian Thorpe commentated on The Olympics in London he began every sentence with "Look", maybe its an Aussie thing. Pete -
Not only looks like one but is one. Pete

It doesn't help that the usage of double negatives seems compulsory on TV Soaps...phrases like "I don't know nothing". Then there's the inability of many to distinguish the difference between loan and borrow. Pete -
I may consider selling these. They are no longer on the car and the spokes have corroded. I was going to use them as winter wheels but don't really need them any more. Pete

Caterham to race in Abu Dhabi. I'm not quite sure about the details as they are still a bit short of contributions, will check it out shortly. https://www.crowdcube.com/caterham/ EDIT....... Pete

Quoting from the E type forum, the E type is unique in that it is the only car to have confirmed approval from the dvla to have a stick on front number plate. The owners club have a copy of the document for any MOT centre etc that might question this. Yes, I've heard this too. The Lotus Europa and The Lotus Elan also had a unique numberplate system. The letters were stuck onto the grille. I had mine Europa some 40 years ago and I've forgotten if the rear also had just the letters too, photos I've looked at are inconclusive. Not my Europa but like this. Pete

Certainly worth looking at. As it stands there's around a 3 to 4 second lap time difference between the Caterhams of this world and the front running GP2 cars. It's less than that on street circuits and more at longer tracks like Spa. Development on GP2 cars is very restricted, there's no KERS or DRS for example so with a bit of tweaking they could build a car that would come close to the times of Caterham/Marussia. GP2 is much cheaper than F1, to run a 2 car team costs around 3-4 million Euros. To be on the safe side let's say the new cars would be 8 million per year that's a lot cheaper than the 30 million plus that backmarkers have to fork out right now. Problem is, we still have 9 teams, 18 cars so not many spaces to play with until some more teams drop out really. Pete

Welcome along. My wife didn't complain when I bought her one Pete -
First of all this won't happen overnight as new rules will have to be drawn up, so 2016 at the earliest. Most important thing is to find a suitable manufacturer and engine supplier. Assuming there'd be 10 factory cars then there'd be 16 slots open (26 cars max) or maybe more if pre qualifying was reintroduced. Supplying at least 16 cars might be attractive to a manufacturer like Dallara and Ford/Cosworth may well come on board as a single engine supplier. Mixed F1 races are nothing new really in fact the first 15 years or so from 1950 we had pretty mixed grids. In the 70's we had many non championship races with a mix of F1 and F5000 cars and in the 80's 1.6 litre Turbos and 3.0 litre NA. Pete
