  1. It reduces the power by around 3% and also increases fuel consumption by a similar amount. However, if you have no choice but to put 95 RON in it (It happens when you live miles from a petrol station) you'll probably drive it in an engine saving defensive manner and actually get better MPG. Guess I've probably put £20 of 95 Ron in my DE 10 times or so, around 700-800 miles I suppose but I'm not concerned as I keep the revs down. Pete
  2. Similar to the mileage when the problem arose on the G35 then. I'm sure we have other HR owners with that sort of mileage. Pete
  3. No. not come across this before but our HR has only done 22k, what sort of mileage has yours done? Pete
  4. I left grammar school in 1966 when very few people went to University. Off the top of my head out of 160 in my year (classes of 40 then) only around 20 went to University. In general these were the students who already had a clear career path in mind. A quick story...There were 4 of us who hung around together in School and when we were 15 my 3 mates were invited around to my house for tea. My mum asked them what they were going to do when they left school. One of them answered, I'm going to be a gynecologist (I didn't even know what that was) . Yeah right, but he finished up as a professor of phsycology and wrote several books on the subject worked as a navy doctor for many years too. When I worked in the labs at British Steel there was one degree between the 120 of us although plenty of us had what was considered to be a good qualification back then, an HNC in Chemistry. How things have changed, when I worked at Lubrizol we were taking on plant operators with HND's and HNC's in Chemical Engineering. So, a degree is really important these days as is the university you go to. It's also important to get a good degree and if possible a masters degree. My daughter had to work in Sports Direct, wait on at large functions and do some Gymnastic coaching to fund her masters degree but its really paying off now. Pete
  5. hmm...1mm of snow in London and everything is on a stand still ! Do things actually move in London when there's no snow? Pete
  6. Not much carrying on here Actually, I was a teenager in the infamous winter of 1963 and despite massive 15 foot drifts my dad got to work every day (15 miles away) and I only missed one day at school (3 miles away). Probably would be worse today though with 3 or 4 times the number of cars on the road. Pete
  7. Not a chance, The U.S gets far more severe winters than we do and this is really bad by their standards. It's always possible that we'll get some snow but winters like 1947/63/81 are rare and everything has to fall into place. Right now, I'm expecting something like last year, wet, windy and mild....but you never can tell in latish November . Pete
  8. Not a chance of a cold blast just yet, The Met office are more concerned that we're going to get a series of Atlantic storms (like last year ). After looking at tonights computer weather model runs I can't see proper winter starting until mid December at the earliest. Pete
  9. Yeah not Husky, this guy lives in or around Leicester apparently. Pete
  10. Lake effect snow up there, the Great Lakes are still fairly warm and the Northerly wind picks up loads of moisture and turns it into snow. On this occasion there was also moist air coming up from the South too. A perfect storm almost. Not much is moving in Buffalo right now. The heavy snowfall we had here in March 2013 was also a form of Lake effect snow but instead of Lake Erie, The Irish Sea was the culprit. Luckily for us we only get this once every 10-20 years, its every year in Buffalo. BTW, everyone should read the item about shovelling snow on The BBC website...scary stuff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-30119410 Pete
  11. Mine has spent one night under cover since I've had it almost 8 years now. I had my RS Turbo for 11 years from 1989, never garaged it and it's still showing as registered on The DVLA site. Pete
  12. Taken over the last 3 weeks. How to destroy a box Sleep time again. Oliver, the black and white one usually swats them away but he's in a good mood today. Here's Toby, he likes sleeping too. Pete
  13. Anyone on here with a black Zed who works for Jaguar in Coventry? If so, your dad delivered my groceries from ASDA today Pete
  14. They're expecting another 3 feet later today but seriously what happens if the snow slides onto his windscreen or backwards onto the road. Pete
  15. 2 other drivers to make their their debuts in practice 1. Fong and Ocon, sadly I've never heard of either of them , presumably they're loaded. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/9570738/Fong-and-Ocon-to-drive-in-FP1 Pete

  17. * This'll be our destination when we get it done, probably in the spring. I can take it down and get the train home as I have a train pass and do the opposite when its ready to pick up. I can also visit my daughter while I'm at it, she lives in Cardiff . Pete

  19. Biggest place I've been too was Bingley Hall in Stafford an absolutely huge indoor arena that was actually a cattle market , The Eagles, Queen, AC/DC, Status Quo, etc all played there in the 70's and 80's. Pete
  20. I have said all along that widening 2 lane roads into 3 lanes is pretty much a waste of time and money. As soon as an accident occurs it creates a pinch point. I was recently held up for over an hour on the 4 lane Thellwell Viaduct just because a vehicle had overturned and was blocking just one lane and because it was 4 lanes the emergency services decided to park on two of the other lanes leaving just one lane free. Yes, if a road has reached saturation point then widen it by all means, this of course will cause several years of misery and delays and by the time its finished it'll be saturated again. There are plans to widen the road by us The A55 in North Wales to 3 lanes despite the fact it only really gets busy for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening and on Saturdays and Sundays during the school holidays. The cost of widening the tunnels around Conway would be truly horrendous, into the billions and a breakdown would cause exactly the same chaos as it does now. It is a very important road though as it carries freight traffic to Ireland at least that's what the Welsh Government tells us but there are only 2 freight trips a day, one of these being around Midnight!! The thing about Motorway accidents is that there is often nowhere the traffic can go, they can stop people from joining the motorway and you can close the motorway at an exit but the poor sods who are stuck between exits have to sit there until the road is cleared. Quite often they will close the other carriageway too and they can't really turn the traffic around and escort it back to the previous junction I once got stuck for 4 hours on an elevated section of The M6 around Birmingham on a stinking hot day because of a serious accident a couple of miles ahead of me. Pete
  21. Indicators on HR's have a different self cancelling point than prefacelifts. . Pete
  22. Good old Bernie, he's paid for Caterham's transport costs to Abu Dhabi Pete
  23. Difficult to say from those photos as it has a U.K front numberplate but on the other hand there are no 52 registered U.K cars. One of the problems with positively identifying imports is that owners have a habit of changing the car, removing the rear wiper, changing the brakes to Brembos even changing the front and rear bumpers. For example, your Zed does not look to have headlight washers but it could have been fitted with a replica Nismo bumper here in the U.K. As others have said, best check The VIN. Pete
  24. I was with Admiral on a multi car policy until out of the blue they decided to almost double the insurance on Caroline's roadster. I contacted Sky and they were able to get the price down to a fair bit lower than what we paid to Admiral for 2012/13. My Zed would have been £20 cheaper with Admiral but Caroline saved some £400. My only slight gripe was that when the renewal form came through this year I had to fill in another Finance form for the monthly payments, never had to do this with any company before, the payments have just carried on Automatically.
