  1. Now there's a word I haven't heard in a while. Pete
  2. Certainly is. I once had a tyre wall puncture repaired but that was back in 1972 and even then I struggled to get anyone to do the repair. Of course I never put it back on the car, just threw it into the boot as my spare. From my recent experiences if you get a puncture then the tyre fitter will closely examine the inside of the tyre to look for damage through overheating and won't repair them if they spot anything. I'm not too sure they're scuffmarks either, most likely rejects or seconds that have found their way onto the market. In any case they need checking by a qualified tyre fitter ASAP, Pete
  3. Is that the same as a front suspension arm? If so, then I had mine replaced outside of MOT because (according to the tech) Nissan had a bad batch of them I think so, yes. Pete
  4. There's not a lot you can do really. Reading through the leaflet that Caroline has been sent, you can impress on the court that jury service longer than 2 weeks would cause you difficulties but there's no guarantee you'll be accommodated. Pete
  5. Didn't think I'd keep it this long but I'm on 8 years ownership today. It's been incredibly reliable, which I'd guess you'd expect for a car with 21,255 miles on the clock . Still got a way to go to beat my record, I had my RS Escort Turbo from 24th December 1989 to sometime in June 2001. Pete
  6. There's the difference, in Cheshire (as it was when I lived there) it was all rugby, I went to Rock Ferry High School and all the other high schools in Birkenhead played rugby, no football at all. When I moved out to North Wales all the high schools played football exclusively. Pete
  7. Would you believe it. Caroline has now had a jury service summons . Pete
  8. The problem is that my Sky Box is locked to BBC Wales on channel 101, I believe BBC North West is on Channel 900 and something, but I don't think it's in HD. Oddly enough, if I use a freeview box then I can't even get BBC Wales, despite the fact that I can actually see the lights on the Moel-y-Parc tower which is about 8-10 miles away. North Wales is not the hotbed for rugby that South Wales is. There's not a single player I can think of who has ever played for Wales and attempts to establish a professional club up here have failed miserably. Sure, there is an amount of National pride in every part of Wales but people around here talk football most of the time. TBH though, I find it quite amazing that a small country like Wales can produce such a competitive team from a relatively small catchment area. I don't really have any Welsh blood in me. Well, my father was born in Overton, just inside the Welsh border but his family lived in Shropshire at the time and like you I've always considered myself British first and English second. Pete
  9. Yes, they can live past 30 if the tank has some serious filterage on it. Usual lifespan is 10-15 years. Pete
  10. Apparently I checked the reg and it actually is an import, previously I thought he was just an idiot who thought all 350Z's were imports or something. I wonder where he got the GT4 badge... Someone please call over to this guy and see this thing in the flesh. From what I remember a number of dealers neglected to fit the GT4 plaque and a few of them turned up on E-Bay. Ken might have some info on this one. Pete
  11. NAS's are overrated IMHO. You can get almost the same coverage with a USB drive if you set it to be shared with your other computers. O.K, you will loose the ability to access the drive remotely but do you need that facility? Anyway, I don't see any reason though why your new NAS should do anything to the old HD, I've swapped drives from USB enclosures into NAS units without any loss of data. Pete
  12. Yet mine just failed with a duff banana arm with just 21,300 carefully driven miles on the clock. Maybe I hit something? Pete
  13. When I worked at British Steel my Boss's son (who I didn't know, but strangely my ex wife did) was done for Drink Driving. His defense was that as a part time Barman he had ingested alcohol from splashes onto his arms . Of course, he was found guilty but from then on was known to his friends as "Skin Deep" Pete
  14. I hope England smash them. Living in Wales we're getting saturation coverage of the game, it's headlines on the news, they even had the 2005 game on BBC Wales last night. I mean for goodness sake there's little interest in rugby North of Merthyr so why subject those living up here to this rampant patriotism. Anyway, I have a sneaking feeling that France have a good shot at it this year. Pete
  15. Marussia are back!!! http://www.planetf1.com/driver/55667788/29727/Marrusias-F1-return-given-a-boost Several outlets are saying they've paid their 2015 entry fee. Pete
  16. If you can go by previous Focus RS's then you'll need to get your order in now or prepare for a long wait. I enquired about one at an RS dealer back in 2003, waiting list was horrendous and a test drive in an ST170 was something of an underwhelming experience "We didn’t want to make this car look like a boy racer’s car.†Certainly succeeded in that, Pete
  17. Sorry to hear....Was the NAS an raid set up?? I'm counting on the chance of two hard drive failing at the same time to be pretty remote....Though if the actual NAS unit got stolen I'll be buggered....Recently considered setting up another NAS backup in the garage using powerline plugs. But don't know if that's just over kill interms of backups. No, it wasn't a raid just a single drive. I actually thought that the NAS unit was knackered as the drive seemed to be spinning up O.K but after swapping it into a spare USB enclosure realized that the disk itself had broken. The other drive that failed had the click of death It may be possible to get the NAS drive working for long enough to get the data off, there are 4 ways that I know of doing this but I just haven't got around to having a go so to speak. If I attach it to a computer using an internal SATA interface, the computer sees the drive but won't read it. Pete
  18. I have or had triple protection. A 2TB NAS drive, a 2TB USB drive and I backup essentials online to I-Drive (5GB Free). Problem is that the NAS and the USB drives both failed within a week of each other just before Christmas. Some of the photos I backed up were on a couple of vintage Athlon machines that are stored away in the loft, so I still have the originals taken on a digital camera from 1999-2006, several thousand of them. Pete
  19. My Zed failed its MOT on a front suspension arm problem, ie the bush has failed. Not a major problem but the garage were unable to source a replacement part unless I wanted to pay Nissan £150. Alex can supply the part at a fraction of the price, unfortunately I wont find out exactly what part it is until the guy who tested the car comes back to work on Monday. The thing is, my tax is up today and it'll probably be Thursday before I can get the part fitted. I can manage without a car for a few days but should I temporarily SORN the car or will it be O.K to just leave it until Thursday when I should get my MOT certificate? Pete
  20. Yeah, we also have 13. We were feeding a semi feral black cat (I posted a couple of pics a while ago) but we haven't seen him since Jan 5th. I managed to almost tame him, he'd come to me and rub his head into my hand, even after we'd fed him. I've not given up on seeing him again as he went missing before I tamed him, for several months last summer. The kittens we got last summer are growing fast now, I'll take some photos and get them posted shortly. Pete

  23. I agree with what the others have said, sell it and buy a new one once you get here. Apart from shipping costs and converting the lights there are other things to consider. You'll only be allowed 12 months before you will have to register your car with the U.K authorities and then it'll need U.K number plates a MOT (Ministry of Transport Road Test) and taxing. You will almost certainly get a Zed that's a better spec than the one you have too . Bear in mind that your U.S drivers licence is only good for 12 months so you'll have to pass a U.K test , but that shouldn't be a problem. As far as roads go then yes, they are different to those in The U.S. You will find that our Motorways are very similar to your Freeways or Interstates, just much busier. You'll also find lots of roundabouts and things that you're not used to as well, for example you can't filter out at traffic lights when they're on red. U.K cities and towns are laid out rather haphazardly compared to The U.S where you use a block system. Other differences, well, minor roads can be narrow and twisty and there are fixed and mobile speed cameras everywhere but this helps to make our roads much safer than pretty well anywhere in the world. Wearing seatbelts is mandatory and the use of cell phones while driving will lead to a fine and points on your licence. Fuel here is not cheap either, its sold in litres and costs twice as much as you pay for it in The U.S. One thing you'll find familiar though is that we are the only other country in the world apart from yourselves that still uses miles to measure distance. Anyway, welcome to the forum and good luck with your move. Pete
  24. No idea, but I hear that the drive cost his backers £500,000 Pete
  25. I would always keep in mind that the climate in The States is much harder on cars than here. Temperatures of 40C for days on end and freezes that often go down to -30 must put a lot of strain on the engine plus the fact that 98 RON isn't always readily available and not at all in what are known as the rocky mountain states. Pete
