  1. Thunderstorms likely during the race. Pete
  2. Not entirely the same but it's a little known fact that many flights have pilots and other aircrew flying as passengers. I remember one flight I was on I was sitting next to a stewardess who was flying from Denver, where she lived to resume her duties in Chicago....her captain was sitting a few rows back. Then there's the case of the DC-10 in 1989 that lost all control when part of the engine exploded severing all the controls. Luckily, very luckily for them there was another pilot/instructor on board flying as a passenger, a certain Dennis Fitch who almost certainly saved hundreds of lives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_E._Fitch Pete
  3. Looks that way. Looking at the figures, it would seem that we'll probably have a minority government that'll fall very quickly and I can see another election within months. Pete
  4. There were no flights to any U.S cities the day after 9/11, probably the 13th I would say. I had only just flown back from The States when 9/11 happened, I think it was the 6th September, so it put the wind up me too. The next time I went to America was in September 2002, the flight from Atlanta to Denver had less than 40 passengers and its usually 100% occupied. Pete
  5. That's how I view it too. I have a mild case of fear of flying, my hands sweat on both take off and landing and my pulse shoots up, irrational I know but there's nothing I can do about it. Once in the air though I'm pretty much O.K. I once experienced an emergency landing at Atlanta, problem with the undercarriage, but strangely remained absolutely calm while others around me were hysterical (especially on the brace command )....go figure. Pete
  6. The experienced ones will take an empty bottle with them . On long distance trains and built into the timetable are drivers breaks, for example at Crewe the train may be scheduled to stop at the station for 5-7 minutes, rather than leave the minute passengers get off and on. Of course, it's even more difficult for city and town bus drivers. Most (if not all) are operated by just the driver so he is not allowed to leave the bus at any time and there isn't much privacy in a bus . Pete
  7. So you're the kind of person who is willing to fly a plane full of people into a mountain, but you wouldn't knock out the stewardess who is in the cockpit with you? Most flights now have at least one steward onboard, the last dozen flights I've been on have had multiple stewards in fact. Pete
  8. 2 close friends of my parents were killed when the Turkish Airlines DC-10 they were flying in crashed into a forest just outside Paris in 1974. The cargo door had ripped off causing the worst air disaster ever seen at that time, 350 or so fatalities. Ironically, they had won £10k on the pools just a few months before. To add to that, one of my work colleagues and his wife were killed in the Manchester air disaster in 1986 when the plane caught fire on the runway. Pete
  9. I agree with everyone else, its a good price. We will be looking for 9.5k on our 08 HR Roadster with 24k on the clock when we come to sell it in a few months time. Pete
  10. Quite true. Over in America they an unofficial 2 person in the cockpit rule so that if one of the pilots needs to leave the cockpit at any time a stewart will take his/her place until the pilot returns. Its unofficial as it isn't required by FAA. We may need to look at it again. As I understand it the door leading to the cockpit has an electronic lock on it so that if the pilot is incapacitated you can obtain access by punching in the numbers...unfortunately, the door can be locked from the inside too. What I find interesting is that there is virtually no information on either of the pilots, no age, name and just the flight hours and years service for one of the pilots. Pete
  11. Both Sky and BBC are reporting that the police could be involved http://news.sky.com/story/1452410/sacked-clarkson-could-face-police-action Pete
  12. I only ever went to the Tattenhall "shop" once and had a job finding it. I bought a pair of rear shock absorbers for my Lotus Europa, 1973 or 74 it must have been, I remember it as being rather quaint Pete
  13. No, the roadsters roof button is underneath the dashboard close to the petrol filler cap release button. The blank between the heated seats is a "Snow Mode" switch, only found on JDM imports. Pete
  14. Yes, our current sofa came from DFS and I've been very pleased with it. It's a few years old now but interestingly the manager at that time owned a 350Z with a Nismo kit on it , had a long chat with him, must have been 2008 or 2009. It also helped that my daughter worked there part time while she was in University. Pete
  15. Yeah, played it on my PC back in the 90's and I also have Sim City 2, 3 and 4. Had a look at some YouTube videos of Cities Skylines...very impressive indeed, I'll be down at ASDA in the morning so I'll pick it up if they have it. Pete
  16. Pretty good up here, just some thin clouds so had a great view. Pete
  17. There's an enormous gap between the wheels/tyres and the front bumper, looks like its on 15 inch wheels Pete
  18. Saw mine while browsing through a Nissan dealers site. 12 months old and had been sat in a showroom for all of those 12 months too with just 47 miles on the clock. At that time, there was no main dealer in Chester, Red Rose Motors having lost the Nissan franchise and Lookers, their replacement, not due to open for another 4 months so it was off to Slaters in Abergele about 40 miles away. Got Caroline's Roadster from Lookers in Chester by sheer chance, saw it on the forecourt while my Zed was in for servicing and did a deal while I was waiting . Her 2008 2.0 Z4 plus 4k cash. Pete
  19. I drove across Sweden and back in August 1981 in a prearranged Cosmos holiday. Drove from Gothenberg to Stockholm fairly directly then back to Gothenberg on a northerly route taking in parts of Norway. Nice country but very expensive to eat out, drink, shop, etc. Weather was already on the turn in late August as summers are fairly brief up there . Roads are very good and well maintained considering the climate and the country is nice and clean. English is spoken by just about everyone born after WW2 so no communication problems. Pete
  20. Pretty much what I expected really. The only real surprise was that Button finished the race. Mercedes should have no problem beating last years 14 1-2 finishes. Pete
  21. For the first time in many, many years I didn't bother watching or even recording qualy. I'm recording the race but don't expect anything other than a Mercedes 1-2. When you see the championship odds before we've even had the first race, 4/9 Hamilton, 9/4 Rosberg with Vettel next up at 25/1 I think it sums up the what this season has in stall for us in a nutshell. Pete
  22. According to this 4 were registered in 2010 and even as recently as 2014 2 were registered . I'm not sure how this came about, but there was a 10 reg one spotted a while ago. https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/nissan_350z#!newreg Pete
  23. Yeah, sure is awkward. I used one of these, maybe two, can't remember now its so long ago. Not sure it'd work with the zed as you need a couple of places to anchor the hooks. Pete
