Most JDM imports don't. Pete -
They must have had a good chuckle about it when I phoned up Flintshire County Council. Usually, they take 3 or 4 days to come and clear up but they sent someone with a trailer within an hour Pete

Fly Tipping in our lane and the surrounding lanes. 20 or so tyres were recently dumped in the stream close to our house to add to the 20 that were dumped last year. Other items include rubble, tree cuttings, fridges, carpets and loads of McDonalds debris, etc. More unusual items included a rowing boat (with a hole in the bottom), a cardboard box with a tortoise in it and a dead horse...One time years ago I ran my daughter to school and when I returned 15 minutes later someone had blocked my lane with a mountain of tree cuttings. O.K Then..... Pete -
Well, I retired 12 years ago with a reasonable company pension a decent pay off and managed O.K. A few months ago I turned 65 so I now get another £500 or so a month state pension plus a couple of other modest pensions. Now that I've paid off my mortgage which was £700 a month and cleared off my credit cards, loans, etc I'm probably back to having a similar amount in my pocket as to when I was working. I keep enough cash in my account to cover my rather large flat roof and boiler and that's about it. Caroline earns 23k a year, plus her state pension and her British Rail pension and no longer pays National Insurance so in an emergency I can always turn to her for help . Of course, she'll be retiring soon so, we'll have to take a look at the implications.....one of the Zeds will have to go though, Pete

It's complicated . For a start RON numbers are always rounded up so the RON number 99 will probably be 98.7 max. I know this because I worked in the laboratories at Stanlow and on nights I used to on the odd occasion nip down to the engine labs and do an octane rating. Next, to get a homogeneous mix , you would need blend the fuels using an approved mixer for a couple of hours at least, simply dumping 5 gallons of 98 RON on top of 5 gallons of 95 RON in your petrol tank wouldn't work. Thirdly and most importantly there's the question of additives. 98 RON costs more for a reason, it contains all sorts of additives that 95 RON doesn't have so even if you do manage to thoroughly mix the 2 fuels together you'll finish up with a watered down blend of additives. If your favorite garage has no 98 RON fuel and you're forced to put a few quids worth of 95 RON in then it's best to use it up before adding 98 RON. Pete

You're right. Japan has 96 RON with the next one up being 100 RON. Pete

Hello Pete, Good luck with your sale, hopefully roadsters will sell this time of year, do you think I've priced it about right? Cheers Lovie. 10K to 10.5k would be my estimate as long as the hood is good. Ours has a slight tear in it unfortunately so I'll be looking for a bit less. Pete

Good luck with the sale. We'll be selling our identical 08 Twilight Grey roadster soon with similar mileage to yours so it'll be interesting to see how quickly it goes. Pete

From the looks of it they've ridden up the bank, given that tree a glancing blow then partially spun around to face the other way. Looks like the passenger door is jammed by the damage to the front wing and the air bags have possibly tangled up the passenger a bit. Yesterday was a bit damp. light drizzle on and off so the road would have been slippy and there is a strong chance of cow muck on that stretch too. Lets hope the injuries aren't too bad but sadly the Zed is history, Pete

Thats because they found them all in a lake. Many of them were replicas. Presumably they would have had to hand some of them back at the end of the season, like the constructors championship trophy for example. I don't know who gets to keep the individual race trophies but if it was the driver they've probably had replicas made of those too. I would imagine that any originals that were stolen could be replaced. The whole theft of those trophies seemed pretty pointless to me, maybe the thieves thought they were made of solid gold or diamond encrusted . Pete

Ouch !! Don't know the car but I do know that road quite well. Actually spotted a previously unseen GM 350Z with a man and a woman in it this morning in Queensferry......Reg was R6 ***, coincidence most likely. Pete

Nice bulge bonnet though Pete

When I lived in Connah's Quay in the 70's I spotted a detector van right outside my house and guess what...I didn't have a license but lucky for me the TV was switched off. That very same day they caught 3 people on our housing estate and prosecuted them all. I know this because their names were in the local rag . They are as Ekona says more tolerant these days so you'll get several written warnings first. Pete

In theory at least it's no different to a brand new TV , the authorities should be notified presumably by the dealer that sold the car. Second hand, well its up to you....Just don't get caught as its a DNA, Fingerprints and criminal record job Pete

Mate of mine had a 1974 or 1975 used F1 tyre, massive compared to today's tyres and he turned it into a coffee table . He also had a number of F1 Cosworth scored pistons that came out of engines under rebuild. They each had plaques with the name of the driver, team and which race they were used in but I don't remember much more than that. He got them from the classifieds in Autosport. Pete

If you buy a brand new TV then the sellers, for example Curry's, are obliged to inform the TV Licensing Authorities. I'm not sure exactly what a car TV consists of or where you buy one from but presumably the same thing happens. Our Jap Import MR2 had a TV fitted at some stage but it had been removed by the time we bought it, illegal to use in the front I think . If you plan on rigging up a freeview box to a SatNav , phone or Tablet inside the car then I guess that the signal emitted wouldn't be powerful enough to be detected by a Licensing van could be wrong on that though. I did 116,000 in my RS Turbo in 10 years, in fact until I retired I clocked up an average of 1,000 a month for over 30 years in various cars I owned. Must be getting close to 500,000 miles in total as I've driven at least 50,000 miles in hire cars. Pete

Yes, both of ours really suck the air in when it the DTE reads ---. Hardly makes a sound if you've already got £20 of fuel in it. Pete

Nicola Sturgeon clear winner to me, if she'd have been SNP leader instead of the smug Salmond , Scotland would have been independent by now. Nigel Farage, well he put a smile on my face, did fairly well. Ed and Dave, uninspiring, treated the whole thing like PMQ's. Nick Clegg, he always comes over as a reasonable likeable chap, did well but will suffer at the polls Leanne Woods, Welsh windbag but did better than I thought. Natalie Bennet, well, felt a bit sorry for her, a bit out of her depth. Pete

Hate it when there's a POS parked next to you?
JetSet replied to Stutopia's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I had a brand spanking new Escort XR3i back in the eighties. After picking up a number of dings by stupidly parking in between other cars in Supermarkets I started parking in remote areas of car parks. On this particular day I parked several rows away from the nearest car but when I returned to my car there was a white "Marina" style shed parked next to my XR3i , a fresh dint in my door with white paint on it. The Shed had very little life left in it so there wasn't much I could do....apart from............. . Pete -
A quick calculation reveals I've averaged 219 miles a month over the 98 months I've owned my Zed . Pete

Silverstone lost a fair part of its roof in these winds.
JetSet replied to WhackyWill's topic in Off Topic Discussion
We've seen just about everything today, high winds, Hail and even a spell of snow. This morning we had clear blue skies for an hour or so....It must be nearly Easter I guess . Pete -
A bit of both I reckon. Merc strategy a bit overconfident, Ferrari improving quickly. Starting to look like an interesting season. Pete
