Very quiet this time around. I live pretty much on the England - Wales border and usually there's lots of flags on display when a major tournament is underway. So far I haven't seen a single flag. In fact you're far more likely to see a Wales flag when England are involved and they aren't . Pete

Doesn't matter how new your house is, it's how modern the exchange is and how far away. Copper - slow, Fibre - fast. They don't have broadband in the village where I live, so had to go with fibre. Bummer Yes, I'm 7kms away from the exchange so it's pretty slow down the copper wires. Mind you when broadband first came to our exchange in 2003 the engineer who came to assess my suitability for broadband said "no chance". They relented in 2005 and I got half a meg which after some 12 years of dialup seemed like paradise. Later on in 2006 I got upgraded to 1 meg and after BT replaced the old aluminium cables with copper in 2010 I was left with 2.5 meg. According to Sam knows, BT are assessing the situation (have been since 2012) but there seems a very small chance that they will lay fibre cable for 4kms from the nearest Infinity cabinet to our local cabinet to serve a handful of houses. Even if they did It would only increase my speed to 4-6megs as the last 1km would be copper wire. My only real hope is that the council who have their transport HQ right next to our local cabinet can tap into money set aside by the Welsh Assembly for remote households like mine, I'm not holding my breath though. As far as new houses go then the more houses on a new site the more commercially viable laying fibre will be, it's just a matter of being patient. Pete You could get a petition going. If you can show BT that most people in your area would be up for fibre, it'll help tilt the decision in your favour. We did the same a few years ago in a village we lived in. Everyone signed it. A year later we had fibre installed. It would be a pretty small petition . I know for sure that there are 3 private properties connected to our cabinet, There's a block of terraced cottages that might also be connected, 5 in all so that would make just 8 properties. Also,I do not know any of the property owners , one of them, a remote farm, I've never even walked past and I've lived here for 50+years. However there are several business's, Deeside Trucks, Premier Nursing Homes (no residents just suppliers) Hunters Shot Blasting. Closer to the cabinet there's a quarry, soon to be a landfill, Flintshire County Council's Transport Dept, a couple of small Engineering companies, Fire Doors U.K, a landscape gardening company, a couple of plant hire companies and finally a company that doesn't advertise what it does, so that's 20 possible customers. The cost of laying a cable would be in the region of 40-100k according to a BT engineer and it would have to cross underneath a busy trunk road. BT cannot lay cables without consent from the property owner so they'd most likely have to bring it down a very busy lane causing probable chaos for several weeks. I believe that the copper cables to a point close to our house from the closest cabinet were buried three or four years ago together with the power cables, so, there's no poles to be seen anywhere now. This is the best I can get using both Chrome and I.E. I live on 2 main flight paths, approaches to both Liverpool (20 miles) and Manchester (40 miles) so it could be that the camera plane has to fly quite high. https://www.google.c...m/data=!3m1!1e3 The closest they got to my house, September 2009. Probably the tree taking up half the road put them off. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.1937028,-3.0872095,3a,75y,29.24h,81.74t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s95yFEMQtMmvjkbZusMnbCg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 Pete -

Sadly, for some reason the aerial magnification of our house is about a quarter of that. Maybe it'll get better when they start using drones? Pete -
With the Zed you learn very quickly not to operate the washers with the windows open . Pete

They've never been down here. Did find Caroline's Zed though outside a supermarket. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.2141832,-3.0447245,3a,37.5y,270h,90t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sILy_XYJ2vlFfmG9OaNZL9g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 Pete -
Caroline tells me they aren't sent registered post either. Pete

Beyond sad. I spoke to Andy a couple of years back at The Wales meet and there no doubting that he had put a tremendous amount of time, not to mention £££'s into what was his pride and joy. It's always sad to see any member's car smashed up like that but this one had me gasping "Oh No" when I first saw the thread. Pete

Should have explained that Caroline used to work in the department at County Hall that dealt with SAC's. She was there when they were first introduced circa 2003/4, used to be 30 to 40 a week offered SAC's back then. Of course, if you got the offer of an SAC you had to go to Greenfield near Holywell, even if you lived in Cornwall or Scotland. Pete

No, it doesn't work like that. First of all you get a letter of intended prosecution. You have to fill in and send the attached form back to them to ensure the details are correct, eg your wife could have been driving. Once the police have had this back they'll assess if a SAC is suitable. Pete That's not correct Pete, It happened to me 3 weeks ago exactly as explained by Kat. I was offered 2 options in that first letter, course or points That's how it works in North Wales, it really doesn't make sense to offer the course at the same time before confirming who the driver was. I mean what if its a company car, a hire car? Pete
-
Yes, occupation or being unemployed can have a massive impact on what you pay, read this. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-2225218/Top-expensive-jobs-car-insurance--cheapest.html Pete

Yes, and there lies the difference between Foot and Corbyn. Foot was elected to leader by MP's (the last labour leader to do this). What we have now is a party split into 2 factions with a possible or probable civil war about to break out and if there's one thing the electorate don't like then its a party in turmoil. Pete
-
Thatcher was far more unpopular and she won 3 elections. Labour reacted to Thatcher's first election victory by installing Michael Foot as leader, very popular with the labour activists and unions but got a big fat zero from the people that really matter, the electorate. The similarities are striking, idealist, left wing, ban the bomb, not keen on Europe, pacifist and Foot was 67 when he became leader. Foot though did have plenty of government experience. It took 15 years to recover from the Foot era and with the inevitable loss of Scotland at some stage Labour may never recover. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see another Liberal, gang of 4 type coalition before the next election. Pete

Around here it's 40 in a 30 limit, some places it's around the 36 mark. Extrapolating from the limit around here I'd guess 62-64 in a 50 limit but each force will set their own limit. Pete
-
Yes, I'm normally a labour voter but he crosses far too many red lines for me, just like Michael Foot did many years ago. His election basically means we'll have a conservative government for at least another 15 years. Pete

Have a word with R35Lee at Falcon Engineering, he supplied me with a few when mine were snapped off by a heavy handed mechanic. Nissan don't sell these, but you can get similar generic ones from E-Bay, I think a few on here have done this. Pete
