is Microsoft forcing Windows 10 on eligible PC's ?
JetSet replied to ioneabee's topic in Off Topic Discussion
My main laptop has just updated (by itself), everything looks to be O.K, but further checks will be carried out later tonight. My other 3 laptops, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista are eligible, I don't have complicated setups so I'll just wait and see what happens. Pete -
Well, I was thinking of staying up to watch first practice but it's hammering down with rain in Melbourne and this usually means no action on track. Weather forecast is better for Saturday and Sunday only a slight possibility of the odd shower. Pete

Nissan 350GT I think. Pete

At the moment its all about The Welsh Assembly election in May so I suppose once we have that out of the way it'll take off for us probably. Pete

Last time I looked about 3 months ago they were "exploring solutions" in our area so they seem to have moved pretty fast since then. Because the main lane around here had a lot of issues with ground movement, all the poles both electric and telephone were leaning over, they were buried under the road several years ago,so it should be relatively easy to thread the fibre through. The Welsh Assembly have funding faster broadband connections to rural and isolated areas but the fact that Flintshire County Council have their main highways depot within yards of where the new cabinet has gone in has led me to suspect its been pressure from them that's been the trigger to actually install it. I don't fully understand the primaries as each different state has its own rules but I'm thinking that we have a situation not a million miles away from the election of Jeremy Corbin. I've read that Democrats have been voting for him in large numbers at the primaries (in those states that have open primaries) because they think he's the candidate that Hillary Clinton will easily defeat. Much in the way that many non Labour supporters paid their three quid in order to vote for Jeremy Corbin as they saw him as unelectable . Pete

America has always been a fairly open racist society, I can remember as a teenager when the deep South still had segregation, not much better than South Africa. If Trump is elected I would expect some really serious problems to emerge....oh and we really need a thread on The American Election, it's incredibly important for us who gets elected, a loose cannon like Trump or a safe pair of hands like Clinton. Absolutely. Apart from the increased speed I'm hoping for a more reliable connection. The problem is and has been for a long time losing the internet at the same time every day apart from Sundays. It goes down between 7:00 and 7:30 every morning, The council offices up the road could well be the problem, they arrive in work and immediately connect to the internet, overloading it and my router has to be reset before I can get my connection back up. Some days, maybe twice a week it also goes down between 13:00 and 13:30 presumably when they get back from their lunch. Darned annoying Pete

I never thought I'd see the day. Well, today I got stuck at some temporary traffic lights at the top of our lane just over half a mile away. Couldn't believe what I saw....BT were installing an Infinity box and laying cables. When I got home I checked the BT Infinity Map page and sure enough our house status is now "Build" . So, I should have something better than the 2.0 to 2.5 megs I currently get in about 5 months time. Considering my house is the furthest house from the exchange some 7kms away and there's just a handful of other properties, well 2 actually plus a small number of businesses I honestly never thought that BT would bother laying fibre around here, I'm absolutely elated. No idea what speed I'll get, it depends on how far they'll lay the fibre I guess, there is a box about 200 metres away and there is an underground cable laid to it which I presume will be copper right now. I got mine from Zmanalex a few years ago so he may not sell them now. It's a replica but the fitting was only a fraction out. Those E-Bay ones will most likely require some work to get them to fit so you're best off contacting a reputable trader like Tarmac to see what they've got. Genuine Nismo ones are pretty pricey, and almost impossible to find these days. Pete

Maybe, there's already been a few to remain/leave like in Denmark and Ireland. Pete

Right behind me today a Black 07 HR that turned off towards Hawarden at a place known as Aston Mead. I say Black but as the number plate started with OU07 it could have been a Midnight, as Andyvvc's old Zed also started OU07. Could just have been a co-incidence though or I've possibly misread the number plate in the mirror. Pete

Yes, I still have the paper one as I haven't changed address since 1979. I will need to renew it soon though . I did read that you lose some of your rights when you reach 70, when I passed my test in 1969 it gave me rights to drive some weird and wonderful things.....like a road roller . I should still have a motorbike licence though. Pete

Fans have failed probably, common problem. Pete -
It's not just a run out for groups of car clubs who maybe visit once a year. It also happens to be within easy reach of Merseyside, Manchester and parts of The Midlands and it's a magnet for hordes of motor cyclists every weekend from Easter onwards. North Wales Police will be up there with mobile cameras from Easter until the weather turns colder pretty well every weekend. There's also a number of other places they target, for example The Horseshoe Pass,The Llandegla Moors and The A5 near to Chris's house to name just a few. North Wales Police have in the order of 8 mobile "Go Safe" cameras and at least 3 of these are in use every day, more at weekends in the summer. So they mainly target speeding motor bikes in a valiant but mainly hopeless effort to reduce the number of motor cyclist deaths and serious injuries in North Wales, hardly a week passes without a serious accident like the one yesterday involving a couple of guys who were seriously injured not far from where I live. Probably not, but 295/30/18 would be closer to the original rolling radius. To be fair though, the traction control has a fair bit of tolerance, Caroline has 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 and I have 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 both with no problems. Pete

Like that a lot. Pete

Car won't start - dash lights up but just clicks instead of starting

Considering the age of the battery it's worth attempting a full recharge. I had to replace the original battery on my Zed after 2 years probably because it was left standing for over a month in both the summer of 2007 and 2008. Also, many batteries have a 4 year warranty, like the Varta I just bought for Caroline's Zed, worth checking if there's any paperwork attached to the side of the battery. Pete -
As above, in the region of 5.5k Pete

Used to get a lot of this when I had my RS Turbo , I remember one day a BMW (they all look the same to me so don't know which one) pulled up alongside me on The A55 on my way to Chester at about 70 mph. He then put his foot down and vanished into the distance. 5 minutes later he was stopped in a pull in with an unmarked police car keeping him company Pete

Just looked up the weights, HR Roadster is 150-160kgs heavier than a DE coupe, I thought it was something like half of that so it will account for nearly all the difference in MPG. Pete

A lot of the triangle is over 1,000 feet and suffers some considerable winter damage. This winter hasn't been bad but I've been over the Denbigh to Cerig-y-Drudion section several times when the road has been barely passable and on a few occasions have had to divert onto a different route. The only section that seems to escape the ravages of winter is the newish section of road from The Sportsmans Arms to The Brenig Dam. It's interesting to note that the record snowfall for the U.K was up on The Evo in 1948. As far as The Police go, I've never seen a speed trap up there but Chris will probably know where they position themselves. Also, for those who've never been on it, long sections are unfenced with sheep potentially crossing or simply wandering in the road . Pete
