Does a crash make you a better driver?
JetSet replied to brillomaster's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Sure, having an accident will in many cases make you into a better driver, I had a couple of very minor accidents in my first 12 months of driving, backed into a wall and went into a huge hole in the road in thick fog at 10 mph and just a couple more since then, rear ended by my mate and reversed out and glanced a passing car. What taught me more were the near misses I had, for example, hammering around a corner on a country lane only to encounter a loose horse in the middle of the road, falling asleep on a Motorway and having my brakes fail while approaching a roundabout at 70, hadn't checked the fluid level for months . Indeed it does . Between say 1 degree to 25 degrees centigrade there would be no noticeable difference but at 0 degrees it begins to cloud and then at about -10 it will start to gel and at -18 or so it will start struggling to reach your engine. By -35 it'll be for all intents and purposes solid . If the forecast is for nights of below -15 then a good tip for diesel users is to make sure your tank has plenty of fuel in it as larger volumes take longer to freeze. We've all probably seen scenes of truck drivers lighting fires underneath their fuel tanks in places like the Yorkshire Moors , so what happens in places like Canada and Finland where temperatures can drop to -30 quite often. Well, over there they add a pour point depressant to the diesel which means that the freezing point is lowered to -55 or so. It never gets added in The U.K but there should be additives available to buy. Never had a diesel, but in the winter of 1981/82 my heating oil turned into jelly when nightime temperatures hit -18 for several nights running . No problem with petrol though, it doesn't freeze out till -70 Pete

+1 Any improvements in performance will be small as denser air also means more air resistance. At speeds over 60 you would probably see your MPG drop off. Pete

That's the best one yet Pete

Impressed by Italy yesterday, they're getting very close to France and the Home Nations now, no pushover these days for sure. Pete

O.K, Thanks Pete

+1, never liked her music, just not my scene and her talent had faded due to her substance abuse. She was apparently "broke", about to have her $5 million house repossessed but like many fading stars, Jackson, Elvis, Winehouse, etc death will give her career a huge boost. No doubt she'll be number 1 again by the end of the week. Pete

He's let the club down badly I'm sorry to say. He has now apologised but the damage has already been done. As far as Evra is concerned, what he did at the end of the game was over the top but understandable, Gary Neville used to do the same thing, it's all part of the game. I would say a fine and a 2 match ban for Suarez from the FA and a warning for Evra would be a fair outcome. Pete

Yeah, looking to get some Nismo side skirts to complete my mods, I'd also consider some replicas as long as they are guaranteed to be a good fit. Thanks, Pete

Yeah, for £13,499 . It was for sale for ages at a garage in Chester for around the 10k mark later on in 2010, I saw it several times on the forecourt outside there. LukeaJones was interested in this one but said it was tatty inside and needed a fair bit spending on it to bring it up to standard. Pete

Ermm, No. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ow ... M&CRE=Furl However, I certainly would get some form of cover if I was for example be unable to drive for any length of time, there are a few companies that'll do SORN insurance for you. Pete

Is it legal to drive a car with deployed air bags?
JetSet replied to deank93's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Yeah, he was pretty upset about it, but it was impossible to prove that he was actually stopped. It was his only conviction in 50 years of driving, got an endorsement, this was before the points system came about, and a fine. The other other two drivers also got the same treatment. My mum was in quite a state of shock, so much in fact that all her hair fell out within a few weeks, but it did grow back again. Pete -
Welcome along Build quality of the cabin isn't that great really, but as you've said its a very comfortable car to drive, I don't think I've ever heard a single complaint about it and we have some very tall and large guys here! Pete

Happened to me once. Sitting at a roundabout, car in front moved off, I looked to my to my right and road was clear, moved off and then I heard a bang. The car in front had stalled...the driver leapt out out and I feared the worst but he actually apologised to me for stalling . Other than a cracked indicator glass, no damage, his car was an old MG Magnette, built like a tank. My dad had something very similar. Car in front stamped on his brakes in the middle of nowhere, he'd spotted someone he knew apparently. My dad did an emergency stop and breathed a sigh of relief as he missed the car by stopping a couple of feet away. Sadly , the third car in line hit the back of my dads car and shunted it into the car in front . Quite a lot of damage and my dad was rather unfairly prosecuted for careless driving , as were the other 2 drivers. Pete -
Fitted with the legendary front fog Lights and invisible Headlamp washers too Pete

That's horrible. Sadly, that's always a possibility if it's parked in the same place every day. From my limited experience with the sort of people that do this they generally like to spread the misery about so next time it could be somebody else who's targeted. We had an incident where I used to work where a dozen or so cars were keyed over a period of 6 months or so, never the same car twice and cars seemingly picked at random, like my mate's 5 year old Passat . What car next for me and the little un ?
JetSet replied to Tarmac@TarmacSportz's topic in Other Cars
Only 300 of these were made, They were £48k new, so they're probably very rare now and they fetch as much as £20k these days. Pete -
We don't have the talent. Let's face it we only have 3 world class players, Rooney whose temper often gets the best of him, Gerrard, injury prone and not the player he was in 2006 and Lampard, well past his best, the rest are fairly ordinary TBH. It's always been this way for England, 2 or 3 class players the rest just making up the numbers and it doesn't really matter to me who the manager is, it won't make England into a team of world beaters. Redknapp who is 65 or so would be a fool to take this job on when he's doing so well at club level. Pete

Well, I had mine from brand new and it always needed a couple of attempts before it opened properly, until I joined this forum after three and a half years of ownership I thought that way they were supposed to be (basically, it's a design fault). I would have thought that if the boot stays fully open and needs a good tug to pull it down then regassing the struts isn't really needed. Try the penny trick first. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=37034&hilit=penny+trick Or, you could remove the counter weight. Pete
