Caroline is a careers advisor for Careers Wales and several of her colleagues have come from teaching. I don't know what teachers get paid these days but careers advisors are in the £30-32k bracket. It's a 9-5 Monday to Friday job without the pressure that teachers face these days. Of course, there are drawbacks, like having to deal with stroppy teenagers and their parents but at least you can come home an forget about the job . Pete

Yes, pronunciation in The U.K varies to amazing degrees. For example I say scone by dropping the E at the end (scon) whereas Caroline who is also a Merseysider, if Southport counts as Merseyside pronounces it as cone with an S in front. Pete
-
I was born and brought up on Merseyside and although my scouse accent is not that strong I do still drop my H's (unless I really concentrate ) Pete
-
It's all about pronunciation and where you come from, for example if you are in the habit of dropping the H then you would say "in an hour" or I'm staying at an hotel" but you wouldn't say an Hare or an Habitat because you wouldn't drop the H. Like I say, this is quite a regional thing and there are individual variations. Like I would use an in front of Hotel, hour but not in front of house. It's a similar thing with words beginning with U, it's "a Unicorn" but its also "an unbelievable event" or "an umbrella". Having said all that, if you are writing say on a forum then you should not drop the H and use the correct written grammar, a hotel. etc. Pete

Real, the conversion cost $3,695 in The States a few years ago, you can't get one here though. Pete

In no particular order as they say on Strictly, Likes They're rare They look good The torque Very comfortable driving position Dials easy to read Hates Dipstick (on DE) You have to close the windows when using the screen washers Boot struts unable to take weight of a rear spoiler Rear axle click Doors won't stay open when you're getting out in a confined area and even when opened to their full extent if there's the slightest of breezes An dishonorable mention should go to the birdview satnav and Bose unit as well. I just did some research on The U.S.A forums. Found lots with over 150k, several with over 200k and the highest one was 260k owned by someone in Arizona!! I should add that was 2015 so could be 270k by now Pete

Yes, the pages were for endorsements and they were stamped on just like on a passport. They didn't have a points system back then, just added up your endorsements, I think 4 in 3 years was the limit. Of course I'm no expert but there were less things you could pick up endorsements for back then, like for example bald tyres and they didn't "grade" your endorsements. Pete

Just to bring you up to date......Much to my surprise, Caroline was discharged from hospital the day after the operation and has had a reasonable week since then. Of course, the wounds are quite tender and the anti-biotics made her feel a bit yucky and to add to that she's not been able to sleep properly or eat and drink to her usual standard...but yeah, it could have been a lot worse. Earlier today she had her stitches removed and the dressing covering her skin graft was also removed at the same time. Unfortunately because of the way things work around here she had to go to a different hospital so she didn't get to see the surgeon that did the operation but did get to see both a doctor and a different surgeon who said that she was healing up really well. Next stage is the removal of the feed of blood from her forehead to her graft, this'll be early 2017. It will require another operation lasting around an hour but she should be able to come home the same day. Caroline is not willing to have a photograph posted online, very understandable, but for anyone interested here's the operation she's had, no photos but diagrams. http://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/resources/patient-information/dermatology/forehead-flap.pdf Pete

Post of the day . I don't know about the red book license though. I had one of those, may still have it stashed away, but from what I remember they were renewable every 12 months then in the 70's they briefly switched to 3 (or was it 5?) year licenses before moving to a one off payment of a tenner (1975 or 1976) for a paper license to age 70 (I'm still using mine) , maybe this guy never got around to renewing his? Some of the reliable motor sport websites are reporting that Williams having rejected the first offer for Bottas made by Mercedes are prepared to let him go and have Massa penciled in as a replacement !! With a young novice (Lance Stroll) as their 2nd driver they need an experienced Number 1 and Massa is reportedly in talks with Williams. Pete

I was wrong about needing a feed from the lights as the cup holder lights work off the ignition so you just need to splice one of the live wires inside the door, Pete

The highest I've seen on this forum is 180k or so, A couple of years ago there were several Zed's in The States over 200k, top one was around 225k. Pete

Reminds me of when I had my Capri 2.8i, a quick car in its day, I took on a kit car on The A55 and expected to lose ground at first but catch up later, didn't quite work out like that though, he was still pulling away at 28 day ban speed !! Pete

I think this has been done before. The cup holders are illuminated at night so for completeness you'd need to figure out how to wire it up to the lights I guess. Pete

Been For a Test Drive - GT86 & 370z & Scirocco R(ejection)
JetSet replied to Stutopia's topic in Other Cars
What we have here is basically a Generation 8 Celica with rear wheel drive and a fancy name . I had a gen 7 T.Sport, 190 bhp and that review just sums up how similar they are. Not that my T-Sport was a bad car, in fact it was very enjoyable, the only problem I had with it was the Traction Control kicking in at random times (mainly on the straights), quite dangerous really . Despite multiple visits to the Toyota dealer, they never completely cured it. If it had a bit more power, say 250bhp then it would be well worth considering. On the plus side though it's reasonably cheap, my T-Sport set me back just over 22k in 2003. Pete -
That's the highest mileage I've seen on a UK Zed!! Pete

Interesting, I live in Buckley (its not a massive place) yet I've never seen that Zed !! Pete

That's gotta be a typo? £10k for a hard drive???? It's a hell of a lot for a 40gb HDD . Pete

Doesn't sound like the usual problem. First off is the dashboard warning light coming on when you press the button ? Also, make sure you stand on the brake pedal before you operate the switch and not after. Another thing is to make sure that the closing procedure has completed its cycle before you try opening it again, Make sure the engine is running too, I'm not sure it'll actually work if it isn't running. I got a "free" Lenovo tablet from Tesco when I took out a 2 year contract for my new phone. Don't use it much but so far it's been totally reliable. Pete

O.K, So Caroline had her operation earlier today and I just got back from visiting her. The operation went well, the tumor has been removed and it had not spread into her bone which was the surgeons biggest fear. To be quite frank, she looks a bit of a mess as to get at the tumor they had to cut from the centre of her lip upwards to her nose and then around her nose, presumably to peel back the skin. She also has had skin removed from her forehead and grafted onto her nose. Loads of stitches everywhere and a black eye as well . I can't envisage her being discharged in the near future but at least the worst of it is over now . Pete

350Z Import - Owned for 6 weeks driven for 2 ....
JetSet replied to Tracey742's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Welcome along . My wife has a 350Z roadster, had it for 6 years now and off the top of my head I can think of a dozen other female owners who've been on here at one time or another. Pete
