Was it as boring as it looks?

Don't forget that if you put on a replacement door, the inside would also need painting as well as the outside in order to preserve colour throughout.
-
The benefit is that you get a full colour match. If you car is metallic that's harder to match than a flat colour. Jim

It's easier to use the right tool for the job. I use this for retracting the pistons in the caliper. http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=518&item=5319 20ish quid and will make sure that the pistons are retracted square and makes the job really easy. Doing it by other means, i.e. by hand, could cause you to jamb the pistons or score them or the bores. When retracting the pistons, check that the fluid reservoir does not overflow. You may need to remove some to prevent this. Use a syringe for this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_757521_langId_-1_categoryId_241551 Don't over do the copper ease and make sure you don't get any on the braking surfaces of the pad or the disc. I think everyone's days in telecoms is numbered. With Nokia, Nokia Siemens, Vertu, Ericsson (not to mention all the other telecoms companies in the last few years) all cutting jobs that means that there is a huge number of highly skilled engineers now all looking for the same handful of jobs. Bad times indeed and I don't see that it will ever recover as a lot of jobs have been outsourced to India, Poland and the Phillipines. China are now getting stronger in this market as well. Some companies are even importing people from oversees to work here because they will take a lower wage than the UK workforce in this industry. So there is sod all hope for people losing their jobs. Good luck to you. I hope you land on your feet. I hope it doesn't happen to me soon.

Change it for a 370?

I've had this a long time back on another car. Turned out to be cracked cylinder head or bores. Jim

Question for the sparkies in the house!

Would it not be easier all round to fit a lower wattage shower? Perhaps all the wiring was correctly rated in the first instance for a lower wattage shower and then later, when the shower inevitably packing in one cold January morning, someone decided to replace with a higher wattage shower without checking the current rating of the cabling etc? I haven't done the sums etc so do say if I'm wrong. Jim -
Why would they want to do a "random" check? How would that benefit them I wonder? Changing topic here but I wonder the same about passport control/security. If they check people at random rather than using intelligence what would the outcome be?

I would have thought that if the clutch was on the way out then it would affect more that just second gear. Similar with clutch fluid. I suspect it's the synchromesh and as this is a common fault on the 350z, its down to bad design. You would have thought by now this kind of mechanical issue would no longer happen as there must have been countless gearboxes design and issues resolved in the last 70 years. Then again, someone comes up with a new idea or new material and can introduce a new problem. Jim

It would appear perhaps that we both misread each other. Jim

I don't dispute that. Isn't that because he has taken out a third party fire and theft policy? That means his insurers liability extends only as far as reimbursements third parties (damage to property, injury, death), reimbursements to the owner if the vehicle is stolen or the vehicle is destroyed in a fire. Surely Admiral are not liable in any way to chase the third party for damages as the owner hasn't paid for these services? I'd really would like to be shown otherwise, I really would. I've just read through Admiral's policy with respect to third party and in no way does it state that it will pursue damages owed to the policy holder on the policy holder's behalf. The only place I could see this is if the cover was comprehensive. Jim

Albany are basically loss recovery agents / lawyers or something like that. They are not insurers. There's clearly no profit in this for them so they are not interested. You only have third party fire and theft so that doesn't cover any damage to your car I believe so you probably have to go it alone unfortunately. Do you have AA or RAC cover? If you do you could call them for advice. I refused to allow Admiral/Elephant to pass my claim over to Albany as I had read horror stories on the net about them. For me Admiral/Elephant dealt with my claim directly but I have comprehensive cover. Jim

Oil and moly didn't help me. Still notchy and difficult in 2nd gear. Just a naff gearbox design I guess. If I had bought the car from new I would have sent it back and bought something else.

Very well. Keep us posted.

They're from the states. So wouldn't the beam pattern be wrong for the UK?

I would say B until you are financially fit enough to buy another Zed or something equally fun after you have settled into your new job and mortgage. Remember you will be on probation. However, it's the wrong time of year to sell a Zed. You will get a better price come March/April. Personally, I'd take the new job and wait 6months or so to see how it all works out. Then think about the flat once you know you are going to stay in that job. Slowly slowly catchy monkey... So option E. Jim -
I had mine done in hyper silver by the wheel specialist. Same day turn around but you have to be there at 8am and it might not be done till 5pm. Occasionally it can take an extra day. Hyper silver seems to give good results and matches the door handles well. I say hyper silver. It was actually black chrome. They paint the wheel black and then flash the outer face with silver/chrome. In the end I didn't like the inside being black so chose to have the whole lot done in silver on the black. Could probably have just done the silver only but I felt the black underneath toned it down a little. The photos on their website don't do the colour any justice and neither does the finishes in the showrooms. The final finish on my wheels matched the car really well. Here's the photos. http://www.350z-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=44904

Have the actually been completed booted out though? I thought it was just the caravans on the scrap yard that didn't have permission but the caravans on the site next door did. Jim

In my case? What makes you think I've got anything to do with Diwali?
-
Unfortunately it's no longer about Nov 5th any more in this country. This week it is the Indian festival of Diwali traditionally celebrated with fireworks. It's a five day festival.

I had exactly the same damage to mine last year. I had quotes from £350 to over a grand. I decided to go with a £600 quote in the end. The chap did a great job and I felt the others would just do a cheap job - even the one for a grand! Not in Essex though.

Check the rear pads too and don't just look at the outer pads as the inner ones can wear quicker - at least they did on mine with the outer ones looking good for another year! Check the steering gaiters for cracks and leaks. Check the CV boots for cracks and splits (inner and outer). Check the disc thickness's are in tolerance. Wheel bearings. Play in tie rod ends. All depends on how much time have you got and how much you are happy to leave for the MOT checks to find.
