  1. Polish wise, I was either going to use meguires gold class or Autoglym super resin
  2. I had planned to detail the car this weekend and update my rolling thread - however possibly a slight fly in the ointment. I ordered Lime Prime Lite and have been sent the non-lite stuff. The DJ site suggests avoid soft paint (like on jap cars) - but to save me putting it off another weekend, is it really a risk to use this stuff on the 350? Plan was wash, clay, lime prime, polish and wax All would be done by hand as opposed to machine
  3. I will probably head that way for it - have put out an offer locally for my passenger seat
  4. I'll chuck my name into the hat Name: Chris Location: Jctn 24/25 M25 ODBII Software: Need to check but reader gives and clears codes
  5. looks like it indeed, will do some research, but thanking you kindly good sir ...one part down, few to go!
  6. Does anyone have a guide on how to replace a steering arm? The search hasn't thrown anything up for me so far. Having had my car on ramps this morning, the drivers sdie steering arm from the rack is bent and needs replacing (I didn't bend it - no finger pointing please!) I am hoping that, as with most cars, the steering arm joins the rack by a knuckle to the rack - but would be useful to have something visual before I get under the car. If there is no guide - then I will make one as I do it, but at the very least, an image of the part assembly from the parts catalogue or workshop manual would be useful Cheers Chris
  7. I went to a locally recommended tyre and alignment centre this morning, SuperTyres in Welwyn Garden City. They were recommended on Pistonheads and as an official Vred supplier - it was looking promising. After getting chatting to one of the owners he told me that the Vred Ultrac Sec's are being discontinued to be replaced by a Vred Ultrac Vorti. I have a pic of the tread pattern just as an FYI. They guy had them on his new A6 after removing the new Pirelli's following 1000 miles. He is very impressed by them They price about the same as the Ultrac Sacks Probably worth another thread but SuperTyres in Welwyn Garden City have really impressed me this morning. http://www.supertyreswelwyn.co.uk/ The guys are professional, they speak to you informatively as opposed to "it'll cost you this Mr, just wait outside" - they spotted a bent steering rod and walked me around the car to show me everything and they also spotted a rear wheel refub as the balancing weights had been sprayed. They have given me the full geo print out and are equiped to do camber, castor and toe - but I am actually confident that they can do it. Not a feeling that I got from a couple of garages I spoke to this week.
  8. May have found the cause of my traction issue - the drivers side steering rod has been bent. That will be the cause of the steering wheel at 11 o'clock as opposed to 12 then! I am pretty miffed about it having not long had the car - and I certainly didn't do it - but such is! I am persuing the usual paths for spare parts and will now be searching the guides to see if there is any tips. I am hoping that there is a knuckle from the rack to the rack ends and that it's not a whole new rack needed.
  9. Cheers Gents Will start with the vinegar and order up the comma or the auto glym sanitiser...they have mixed reviews. Have you guys actually used the comma? Don't want to go from smelling like a hot undercarriage to toilet duck!
  10. Good luck to you all - congratulations on your imminent arrival
  11. The previous owner of my Zed was a smoker - this means that now when I turn the fans on to heat or cool the interior I am assaulted with a hybrid scent based on the combination of a tramps armpit and a public toilet on a summers day This is not a heavenly scent, nor is it something that Calvin Klein would consider adding to their range of fancy smells. Can anyone recommend something with which to fumigate the heater system to save my gag reflex
  12. This is interesting...the wheel sits at 11 o'clock as opposed to 12. Will hit some searches for the steering sensor I am booked into the dealers next week to get a diagnostic run on it - very aware that this is an MOT failure if I don't find the problem
  13. PM sent before I had read the whole thread....I'll have them
  14. I will definately pop up to say hello I am persuing the water company for compensation after they covered the car in mud, grit and other crap - if that comes through I could be in for a contribution to a porper detail or at least a paint correction Cheers Chris
  15. I ordered a blue velvet panel pot last week to try - all being well it should be there today! Then it's just waiting for my replacement clay lube (where they sent me the wrong one ) Roll on the weekend!!
  16. So - following on from a weekend of getting under the Zed, I am no further forward sadly I located both rear sensors, removed and cleaned them. Reluctor rings aren't cracked and sensor leads look fine I checked the brake fluid - and although not at the max, it is where I would expect it to be for the life left in the pads Tyre sizes are definately correct and legal (rears probably have 6 months left in them) This really only leaves the option of a Nissan diagnostic - which is booked in for next Thursday Can anyone tell me what the sensor is that goes from the rear beam to the rear sway bar - assume that this is also traction related to detect a wheel off the ground? I have a picture which I will upload this evening - but it is a plastic arm joined to the rear roll bar
  17. Same...if its not a REALLY badly judged width restriction - it could be a simple as someone pulling into it, hitting the passenger side on the motorway and pushing the drivers side into an armco
  18. £3,500 to break it for spares would cut you fractionally above even but as a repair project, I would say that is uneconomical - the only straight panel is the roof It looks as though someone has misjudged a width restriction!
  19. Right - so I am still struggling with the ESP Off and Slip light and Alex is trying to give me a hand...as an update; Tyres are Vred's 19" - and are what they should be 275/35 and 255/35 - all extremely legal. Tyre pressures TBC Brake fluid is ordered from Alex to pull some fluid at the caliper end and make sure that I am at Max in the reservoir Will have the wheels off at the weekend to check the speed sensors and give them a clean ODBII reader still shows no codes for anything and a diagnostic is booked at Nissan for 02/08 - although I would really like to avoid that I waited too long for my Zed to have brought a lemon - this has really tarnished the ownership so far
  20. I am yet to work out if it is SMD - but he comes regular as clockwork once a day with a bulging sack. I wasn't even aware that the Weds existed - but they are bang on the SA-55 design. The 60's look stunning Evasive Motorsport seem to do a good deal but stop at 18" Anyway...back to detailing - applicators and towel ordered. Fingers crossed that posty has left his deposit for me to go home to
  21. They are indeed those...I was going to be perfectly happy with a set of Rays and considered swapping them off - but these have swayed me - particularly the attention that they get. Cheers Wasso - I have plenty of lube on its way, the postman is going to give it to me so that I stay moist. Posty was the one who gave me my rim wax last week
  22. With the weather as (almost) good as it was yesterday I gave the Zed its first clean in my ownership. My plan is to use this thread to order my thoughts and check the before and after - I am hoping for a sizable difference! I have had the car for two weeks now and cleaning it really lets me see what's what around the body. Owing to a shipping opportunity my clay lube and wax didn't arrive in time for the weekend but with the parental units going away this week, I am going to move into their house and use the garage for a full and uninterrupted clay, polish and wax in the evenings. I did get a chance to break out my new Poorboys wheel sealant though. Very impressed with this stuff - went on nicely, buffed off easily - and this morning I have found water beading off the wheels (a first for me!). A few more layers and a full wheel off treatment should keep me a very happy bunny. One thing I did notice is that the paint is anything but smooth to the touch - I think that the claying is really going to show up some nasty. There is a small parking ding in the drivers door and a couple of stone chips that I need to get some sort of touch up for - in the long run it will need a front end spray to tidy it up. But here it is....I will update this thread once the rest of the cleaning starts and finishes and may ask for some guidance along the way if I find anything that I can't tackle. Right now I am shopping for polish/wax applicator pads and a new drying towel.
