When did 350z performance become the "norm"?
Bockaaarck replied to mmaci12969's topic in 350Z General
I think your question is a slightly strange one, I'm trying to work it out. I'll try my best to give a response to what I think you've asked without being to 'round and about'. I've had my Zed for just over 2 years and I really enjoy it. It's got an amount of torque which makes driving it fun. It's got a balance which I enjoy, it handles well and is pretty predictable with enough 'arse wiggle' to put a smile on my face. It tears up to 70mph on the motorway without any difficulty or problems and I find it's pretty comfortable getting there. My zed currently runs about 293bhp, which for a 2003 car with new exhaust, plenum, Uprev etc I'm pretty happy with. More importantly I'm happy with that level of power and how the car applies / moves / works with it........for the car it is and how I drive it. For me those last few words are key. I've been very lucky to drive some great cars:- Gallardo, SL 55 AMG, AMV8 etc and they have all been fantastic in their own way. Certainly the Gallardo and SL55 had much more power, more poise, more theatre about them. However I never really got the chance to fully use any of that power. The odd blast here and there but all too often it would be over because they were so quick I'd run out of road, there'd be a bend, a junction, a blind crest, traffic or whatever. So despite all that power, all that extra grunt, I only got to use it sparingly although it was a great thrill when you got the chance. That's because most of the time I was doing 'normal' driving. Pootling along at 30mph in villages or towns, 40 / 50mph on A and B roads or 60 / 70mph on dual carriageways or motorways. Most of the time in the Zed, I am doing 'normal' driving, and travelling at 'normal' speeds. I enjoy driving the Zed at whatever speed to be honest, I certainly don't need all that power scooting around town doing the shopping. I guess this is where my real response is (finally). I drive normally most of the time, I don't use the full potential of the Zed each and every second I'm in it. I don't use that full 293bhp at every moment, squeezing every drop of performance out of it, wringing it's neck for every ounce of satisfaction. I can say that in the Zed I get better opportunities to enjoy more of the available power when I want it over driving the Lambo and the Merc and that for me is what it's about. For me the 'power' of the Zed will never become normal because I don't drive it at 'full tilt' all the time. Much like I didn't / couldn't with those other cars. When I get the chance to 'give it the beans' it's still great fun and that's one of the main reasons I decided to buy a Zed. -
Inspirational guy, he's just got married, all the best to them both.

It shouldn't cause you any problems as long as you're not expecting to be travelling along at 40 mph in fourth and cross boxing straight in to second without having first reduced your revs (speed) appropriately. I'm sure the 370Z box is pretty sturdy so I wouldn't worry yourself too much. I quite enjoy having the opportunity when driving my 350z to rev match and change down / cross box. When you get it right it's very satisfying.

TVR's...anyone partial? Check this old Chimaera
Bockaaarck replied to Richsouth's topic in Other Cars
I read up on TVR's quite a bit when thinking of getting something mental before the world finally implodes and we're all made to live in small sancuaries that will protect us from the ravaged outer world, whilst wearing green jump suits and eating the jellfied remains of our friends and colleagues. The problem is they are an absolute example of a turd being polished - don't get me wrong this turd has been lovingly baked and caringly rubbed with Megs Ultimate and a DA polisher before being waxed and sealed but a turd it remains. The electrics are fooked, everything is stolen from another car and generally haphazardly bolted together.......bottom line you'll be sat in a cloud of steam more often than you'll be actually moving. Such a shame, Agreed Ricey, I considered a number of cars before finally settling on the Zed, a TVR being one of them. They sound amazing, they also shift and provide a very satisfying driving experience when you get in to the groove and control that power on the a's and b's. However, the potential for mechanical or electrical gremlins, perhaps more politely described as 'brand eccentricities' to appear (as they would) just put me off. It would be ok if you had a stable of 5 or 6 different cars, then you could have TVR to 'tinker' with and drive it through some of the summer months. If that was my intention though, I think I would rather have a nice Triumph Stag. Then I could understand if it was a bit temprimental, being built in the 1970's. For a car like this TVR, built in the mid 90's, I don't know if I could be so forgiving. -

anyone recommend a good hotel In Street
Bockaaarck replied to wesmin's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Ok, well there's a Travelodge on a roundabout between Glastonbury and Street, two minute drive from there to Street. We've stayed there during the Glastonbury Extravaganza weekend, clean, tidy but basic etc. You could try the The Crown in Wells, which is a pleasant and comfortable hotel, if not overly exclusive and a touch old fashioned. It does have a good pub / bar attached to it and its right in the centre. edit: The restaurant at The Crown is pretty good . The 'Old Spot' and the Fountain in Wells have always got pretty good write up's as well. -

Bockaaarck replied to wesmin's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Mmm, that's a toughie, does it have to be Street? Wells has some good hotels b&b's and it's a 5 minute drive from Street. I don't know if The Bear (opposite the Clarks HQ building) does b&b but it's not a bad pub. -
Sam those are cracking numbers, top work by Mark and the crew at Abbey, time and time again they get good results.

The better half's parents live on the IoW so we're always popping over there. We always go with Red Funnel from Southampton and I always ask the guys/girls if I we can go on the lower deck, it's never a problem. A couple of years ago there was some kind of classic car show in Newport and there were a few Lamborghini's (Countach / Diablo ) and they came over on the ferry. You shouldn't have any difficulties, get on the lower deck, take it steady getting on and off.

Terrific news Glad that mum and Alfie are both fit and doing well, congratulations

That's round the back of our plce, It's a local car for sure as it has a residents permit. I often see it when I'm driving around looking for a space, parking in Bath can be a nightmare. Very nice 'in the flesh' isn't it.I often have a nose at it but I've never seen who owns / drives it. I should put a spotted note on it really!

For a couple of 'men' who we are led to believe are both 'professionals' I would have expected better from both of them, clearly that's too much. Suarez should have shaken Evra's hand, like a grown man, when he didn't Evra should have made an "oh well, I tried" face and he couldn't have been criticised for it then that should have been it. The initial racist/bigoted behavour of Suarez is unforgivable in my view and I think it show's there is still a long way to go in football to cure it of it's inherent racism.

You could try one of these widebody kits, although I cannot speak in any way for the quality, durability, availability, delivery, fitment or suitability of them to your clients needs. http://www.stxstyling.co.uk/StxStyling/Cars/showit.php?pnum=3544 http://www.stxstyling.co.uk/StxStyling/Cars/showit.php?pnum=4312 http://imexdesigns.co.uk/body-kits-nissan-nissan-350z-nissan-350z-0308-couperoadster-andretti-full-wide-arch-p-850.html?osCsid=c133cfab227c603defddfe06962ab7e0 You as a "professional" would have to make a judgement about whether any of these kits were suitable. Or you have to go back to your customer and your associate at the paint shop and manage their expectations. Why not discuss with them both about delaying the whole job and getting what is likely to be an infinitely better (and more expensive) quality kit from a reputable supplier to ensure a high quality result?

Awesome: How to Keep Calm and Carry On!
Bockaaarck replied to MeisterR's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Lucky guy, I bet he was extremely happy to be able to bring the car to a halt without incident. As for similar types of 'saves' my favourite, possibly even more so than Mark Higgins well known Isle of Man antics, is Katayama's 200 mph + puncture save at the 1999 Le Mans just as the Toyota was heading in to Indianapolis. Utter instinct reaction driving at the very best and amazing car control, mainly because he makes it look so easy. -
Welcome aboard, looks like a very tidy Zed you've got yourself
