  1. But this is what i cant work out can you just use the standard cubby or do you need to buy effectivly the one that is used for the OEM satnav without the satnav? I cant find the answer to that anywhere? Also laptop i think potentially is one of the best options as then it gives you the abilty to take it out and about when you want it etc..im seriously considering doing it with a laptop instead of an inbuilt pc..
  2. So a quick update i have managed to source the below parts for my carputer: Lilliput 7" touch screen £140 The pc - £150 mini itx board intel atom dual core 1.6bghz processor 500gb hdd 2gb ram case Extras dc-dc power supply - so the pc will boot and shut down correctly- £20 windows 7 - student edition - £35 Usb 5m cable - £5 hdmi 5m cable - £5 So the total is around £355 which seems like quite alot for a car pc (you could probably build a basic pc or use a oldish laptop for around £100-£50) - im also wondering do i need to buy something special to get the screen to fit in the dash as some of the guides say you need to buy the mechanical gps dash cubby others dont say anything - any ideas? Also what about routing cables to glove box behind passanger seat? any diagrams?
  3. thanks peeps wierd it didnt do it this morning...
  4. Elements still work fine as you can see the band around each when heated where it has cleared. As for leaks the boot is bone dry... All very odd maybe i will see how it is over the next week. Im not really sure why it doesnt clear faster which is odd... and really why it has suddenly started..
  5. So the last few days i have found my rear window (boot) to get completely misted up on the inside and it just wont shift even with the ac on and on fresh air option rather then recirculate. The front of the car will clear almost instantly as soon as i do this but not tha back... Very odd it never used to do it and I dont remember it doing it last year, i put the heater on the window to but because its inside it takes ages to clear. Any ideas? I did clean the window recently with glass cleaner on the inside as this normally helpes, helped on front windows but not rear...
  6. mmm its odd i cant find anything on this, do you have any links by any chance?
  7. How odd! your message never appeared... I am tempted to try it with an Ipad as then it saves the hastle of wiring etc... i havent messured anything though so no idea even if it would fit, probably not. I just dont like the idea of spending money on something that potentially wont be that used where as if I used a laptop of ipad, i could take them out and use them when i wasnt in the car..
  8. yah supossed I got that one coming... lol i didnt as i didnt want to get in trouble, but yeah i have found them very good. Also i you call them up quite often you can haggle a bit
  9. yeah the refurb dell warehouse site... basically evertime you order a dell you have a 15 day cool off period, all the pcs that people buy then dont want Dell cant sell as new so MCS sell cheaper as refub you still get 3 years dell warranty on most etc.. Really good site.

how you/ him do it? Sking or something?
  11. ah interesting I will have to follow it, do you still not think its cheaper to use a laptop? and connect that to a touchscreen? A decent enough laptop with ample power to do what needs to be done, can be picked up for £150-300 from MCS and then you have the option of using it should you need it outside the car?
  12. Hi All, After installing rear parking sensors i fancy another little project and am thinking about a Carputer, i have seen a few threads on here and other site but really was wondering some of the below questions: I fancy using a laptop as my "carputer" as this means i take away and use it when not at home, what does this mean interms of auto turning on when ignition starts etc? If i use a laptop i think i should still be able to use a touchscreen in the center console i just need to wire the screen in but how do i route the cables to the box behind the passenger seat? Is it worth considering the connection to the car ecu to get readout etc or is this just a pointless waste of time? am i being mad and really should i just buy an ipad and make it fit in the dash?
  13. great job, i would love to see how these get on. I bought some autoglym stuff cleaner and conditioner, and actually it did make a huge difference but definately didnt clean out the dirct from the cracks etc..
  14. I think mine is gritty when going into and out of first and second when cold, phsycologicly it sounds noisy i think but by all acounts this is very common with the gear boxes - garage also confirmed it aswell.
  15. it was me............only kidding.....but if anyone around me has anything good please feel free to leave it on my door step! Nice gesture who ever it was!
  16. i was just going to say tell your company to stop being stingy! We get 40p a mile!
  17. ah interesting point, something i didnt consider.
  18. sorry that was just an example and there are lots of very similar ones in the UK with UK maps, a quick ebay search finds them. When you mention build quality...tbh is that really a factor every stereo i have ever owned has been pretty similar - silver box with plastic fascia surround and then plastic with a little bit of metal face... In terms of the "you get what you pay for" thats what i have always thought but then if you do research into the steroes you find that they are basically made up of the same parts as some of teh top end stereos just with no branding, and a slightly different facia... Just really temping when you see what you can get for you money... (or i guess supposed to get)
  19. Hi All, Just wondering what peoples opinions were on the unbranded steroes that are sold on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ink:top:en From my research (there are alot out there) but some use most of the standard OEM chips and parts that some of the most exspensive branded steroes use...Kenwood, panasonic, jvc etc... So for a fraction of the price you are getting what seems to be a decent stereo that offers lots of customisation aswell as lots of boys toys... Peoples thoughts?
  20. i wouldnt be worried with low millage as long as the car checks out etc.. My bro was the same with his ZED when he sold it, and the car was immaculate, he had never skimped and had always treated it like his baby! Who ever bought it got a steal.
  21. Jeeze! Massive shock! Never met you but R.I.P. My thoughts are with you both and your families!
  22. without meaning to crap on the thread you wont get any HP increase with any intakes unless they have a direct cold air feed and shielded from the heat of the engine bay (ideally having the filter placed away from the engine bay!) Yeah another member said that to me aswell, whats kind of sound does it add then?
  23. Well let me know if you can come down a bit in price.
  24. That is crazy! Never heard about that before! Very interesting
