Drove through the liverpool tunel.. for no reason
ianphampton replied to Spatt's topic in 350Z General
Tunnels are even better in a roadster - open the roof before you go in to get the full effect -
Temper Orange - Mid Life Crisis
ianphampton replied to Ponsonby's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Sounds Like we ought to set up a subsection for all us oldies 57 now, was 53 when I bought mine, my kids describe her as "Dad's mid-life crisis car" - Mine's a sunset! -
You can get something called an HKS Defenser which is a plug in to the engine management thing - no idea how effective they are as I just naturally am not a fan of plugging aftermarket stuff into the chip which is the heart and brains of my engine. I opted for the UpRev solution, which has the advantage that you can re-tune the engine if you then carry out other modifications. Going back to when I first got my girl adjusted it was UpReved, then re-mapped after I fitted a new exhaust, then remapped once I had the Berks HFCs fitted and then again once I had the plenum spacer fitted, each time tuning her to maximise the benefits from the modifications. Not sure where you are but I make the journey each time down to Abbey Motorsports in Surrey. I live in Manchester so it's a good 250 miles each way each time - I think it's worth it as I have huge regard for the guys at Abbey, as they are i) thoroughly knowledgeable - you'd be hard put to find anyone in England who knows more about Zeds ii) nice people - who actually take the time and trouble to explain what they're doing, and don't mind if you want to ask more questions and talk to the mechanics and so on and iii) they give you Marmite on toast with the coffee when you get there (though they still owe me the marmite on toast from the last time I went)

2014 Calendar . . Poll's or Surprise??
ianphampton replied to DoogyRev's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I quite like the exercise of going through the pictures and picking the ones I like - even when I differ from the majority - it's still good to see all the possibles. There are normally lots of pictures I like, even if they don't win - -
Curious to what people do as a job in relation to having a zed
ianphampton replied to Zhorno's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I run an engineering business - use the Hilux truck for the metal shifting but visit customers in the Zed -
I run a JDM and my recent records over 3130 miles show average 26.13 mpg. Note - I have 9 points at the moment so drive very carefully inside all the limits (apart from the occasional run down the M58, let's not talk about those)

Alternative 2 chemist joke - 1st chemist: "Know any jokes about sodium?" 2nd chemist: "Na"

My son made me a selection and I have these left over - the one I fitted looks like the one on the left. He spent ages polishing the one in the middle and tried to get me to use that - but I liked the satin finish better than the high gloss. I'm open to offers if anyone wants to PM me - the metal ones are 6082 Aluminium and the white one is Nylon

Hassop Hall, near Bakewell http://www.hassophallhotel.co.uk/ Food excellent, atmosphere very civilised - but friendly too (family owned and run) Arriving in the evening you have to drive between a series of flaming torches, always impressive Stay over for breakfast if you can - that's great, too

One of your pics looks like oulton park ???? What kind of time would you be going around in the car (pesume full circuit) Cheers Rob Rob Yes, it was Oulton Park Can't remember the lap times - honestly - they weren't anything special and I wasn't able to keep up with a couple of Caterhams, anyway!

In this country you can't really let your car go and see what she can really give you on the normal roads - so the only way you get to experience the full animal is to track her Definitely worth doing I'm afraid I'm going to add the caveat though - if you're going to take the car up closer to it's limits - 1) make sure it's in good order and properly serviced, with good rubber and 2) Be aware that her limits may be higher than yours (Don't take that amiss - I'm only too aware of my own limitations being more a restriction than the car's) But then - go do it and - enjoy !

Sounds like a dodgy overtake to me then, you could have just pulled back in behind the lorry safely but then maybe your enormous manhood would have shrivelled up and dropped off At the risk of upsetting long serving members - this holier than thou doesn't help ! I've also had it that you've pulled out, power on, overtaking and you're alongside some vehicle when the TCS cuts your power - and you're already committed and alongside. This DOESN'T mean it was an ill conceived overtake - you had the room, you had the clear road, it's just that suddenly the TCS cuts your power just when you're at maximum exposure. I understand exactly how the OP feels - been there, had that happen, still got the stain in the underpants, and it's where the TCS tried to kill me, not because the overtake was ill planned

Roof won't go all the way down, winter issue?
ianphampton replied to Mark-UK's topic in 350Z General
+1 on mine - especially if you haven't used it in a while. Sometimes it takes mine a couple or 3 goes - you can hear and feel when it's getting stiff so I stop - put it back up a bit, then down, then up, then down and then she'll fold and tuck away. I don't keep the power on when it's obviously not going to fold away, as I don't want to blow a motor or anything, so take it gently in stages and it'll go in the end -
Anyone been disappointed with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta
ianphampton replied to jollyranchers's topic in Tyres
I also did not like the Bridgestones - I've been on Goodyear Eagle F1s for a couple of years now and I find them very good, quiet, good grip (both in wet and dry) and they've lasted well, even after a couple of track days and 4 laps on the 'Ring in that time -
Chinese Police leave racer's body in street
ianphampton replied to skyinsurance's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I'm afraid I disagree - if you drive at 150mph on a residential street, I think you deserve exactly what this guy got. Plus - if they find the other guy who was doing 150 (and ran over the dead driver) they should make a spectacle of him (or her) too - like putting him in stocks or something -
Thought your picture was very nice - but also thought it would be better without that annoying sign - so took it out! How about this -

I drove a small bike (a little yellow Suzuki, we called her 'Bumble') like this to work when I first got married, it was great . . . .until it rained. And then it got to autumn. . . .and then November . . . .and it froze - No matter how carefully you dress, the rain WILL get in, and then it WILL run down your back No matter how many layers you put on, you WILL freeze your nuts off No matter how good your gloves, when you get off, you can't unclench your fingers because they're absolutely frozen solid It's great in the sunshine, but with the season we're in and winter approaching - well all I can say is "Good Luck" I can still remember it, even now, 30 years later, and as I pass gently by with the music and the heater on - drive a car, mate, it's worth the extra.

Is yours an aftermarket or stock exhaust? I have a Crapspeed K2 zorst and mine rattles a bit when cold, disappears when warmed up - perhaps yours is loose baffle or something?

Buying 313 - can't quite find info I'm looking for
ianphampton replied to NeilMH's topic in 350Z General
Fixed that for you, Dan Cheers, Ian -
I just did the same thing http://www.howmanyle...cle/nissan_350z Followed this link (Thanks, Mikesding!) and it if you click on the other tabs, it seems there's a diesel 350 out there ! Does anyone know anything about this or is it a DVLA mistake regstering it wrong?

Was it really hot on your drive? I did this to mine on the SXOC trackday at Anglesey - it was 30°C and I think I took 2 or 3mm off them just on one day. Mine were pretty low when I started so swapped them off after this - (They were the older style Goodyear F1s - not the asymmetrics like yours)
-
I actually replaced them with new BMW emblems, I knew it would raise mixed opinions, probably why I did it Wheels look very nice BMW caps look hideous (You should always follow the style advice of the missus - even if you disagree with her!)
-
I run mine on winter tyres and they definitely make a big difference - it will only be those days when there's 3" of snow that you'll have to leave her on the drive. In ½" conditions they do fine. A couple of people here mentioned the cost - it's only the upfront cost you have to swallow (you can get a set of JDM wheel cheap on here and 17" tyres cost less than 18") and once you have them you do x000 miles on your summer tyres and then y000 on your winter tyres - each set therefore spends half the year in your garage so they last twice as long (Sounds like Irish logic but you know what I mean!) Overall your tyre bill will be no more expensive than it is now and she behaves so much better on winter rubber in the cold, you're much safer in these conditions (Apologies in advance for upsetting those folks in the emerald isle . . . .)

Ewan Do you want these for your 350Z? 350Z wheel nut thread is M12 x 1.25 so if you use ½" UNF you could end up i) in the ditch and ii) in hospital Just seen your thread about wheels for a Mustang - apologies
