Cold Air Induction doesn't add anything IMO (But a high flow HKS filter in the stock airbox does help) Plenum spacer will give you a bit more torque which would be a good match as you say you want more acceleration. Improved exhaust will give you much better sound and some (modest) gains in rpm - and to gain maximum benefit it would be beneficial to UpRev (Remap) her once you've done these Performance wise you'll probably only see 15 maybe 20 horses and similar modest % torque inmprovement - but the feel of the car will be much better, and the Uprev also removes the constraints on the throttle in the lower gears (IIRC you only get 65% of response in 1st & 2nd and 75% in 3rd) and once you get full response in all gears your pulling away from roundabouts and overtaking is much (Much!) better As SMD says - don't expect miracles, but the feel is bigger than the numbers might suggest and you'll definitely get cramp in your smile muscles as the grin just keeps on growing!

350z Engine bay bolts now in Blue and Red !!!!
ianphampton replied to Tarmac@TarmacSportz's topic in Tarmac Sportz
Chris This is my plenum with the orange caphead covers - I'll take some more when it stops raining. (Hey, in Manchester perhaps I should say - IF it stops raining) -
Plenum mod - does it affect engine smoothness?
ianphampton replied to Mrdeli's topic in 350Z General
+1 on this I think you need to keep everything in balance - there's no point in improving the air inflow if the exhaust constricts the flow on the way out - and obviously vice versa. I also think that to capitalise on any improvements, be that plenum spacer, berks or other zorst changes, it helps to then tune the engine to get the most out of it in that particular set-up, and so would also advise a remap - but remap it after you've done the other changes -
Probably a silly question regarding remap
ianphampton replied to squit's topic in 350Z Modifications
When I had mine remapped after fitting the plenum spacer and the Berks, Abbey changed my limit to 6900 - I think I remember that Mark said he could take it to 7200 but he wanted to keep her a bit off the absolute limit. Note, this was after a few mods - after just the original remap (before the spacer and the Berks) he changed her to about 6500 or 6700 - can't remember now. I'd suggest you have a good discussion with the guys doing the remap about what she'll take - you don't want to overdo it unless the rest of the engine and the air aspiration are in harmony - but 7000 would be do-able (I think) provided you've given her more air and better flow Anyway - consult Abbey or Jez or whoever and see what they say when they've caressed your girls inner parts. -
When I very first got the car it didn't work - neither did the reversing light. Got my garage to check but they called a specialist in - After about 40 minutes of checking, the auto electrician said it would take forever to trace the fault so he ran other wires through to them and never had any trouble at all since. It cost me about 3 hours total (including the abortive checks) and I can't remember what I paid him - I'd guess that it would be £100 - £150 or something like that now assuming they'd charge £50 per hour. I guess it depends on how good a job the sparks did when the car was first converted - if in doubt get your local garage to reccommend a good auto electrician - you can do it yourself but I hate fiddling around and feeding wires through and I'm rubbish at it so it looks like a bodge job - better to get it done properly imo

Fair Lady Jap radio, sat & after nissan radio
ianphampton replied to icebiggles's topic in 350Z General
I bought a Sony MEX-BT 3700 from Halfrauds - this was in Jan 2010 so you'll have to check what's available as more up to date now. Check when you buy it about fitting kits as you'll need the converter to get it in - I got them to fit it as well and although Halfrauds gets quite a bit of (sometimes well deserved) flak on here they got a specialist to call and fit it and he did a cracking job, including adding another 12V socket while he had the covers off in the car I paid £160 for the radio plus £10 or £15 for a fitting kit and £25 for the fitting - it's been great ever since (though it doesn't bluetooth to my current phone - you'll probably do better now if you get a 2012 version as mines now 2 years old.) My car's a JDM too and they dont come with clock availabilty in the 3 pods on the dash - the new radio fixed that too as I set mine to display time. . . Anyway - I thought Halfords did me a good job at a pretty fair price. -
Tarmac has them - he has orange at the moment but the grapevine says he'll have red and blue by the end of the week

I keep my girl in a green tent - I was concerned about the effects of freezing cold and then baking in sunshine on the roof. It was supposed to be a gazebo but it was the perfect size for the Zed and to fit between the wall and the fence. Tent is getting a bit dodgy now after nearly 3 years - the snow in 2010 winter nearly buckled everyting - if you look inside you'll see the emergency extra wood supports I had to install in a screaming hurry - but they did the trick and it's lasted in all weathers since. Plans are afoot to extend out to the fence all the way front to back, and then the front will be a proper brick garage, I'm looking forward to that!

Can I show this to my son, who is still paying me VERY SLOWLY for his car. . . . and when he's done that he still owes me for his insurance. . . and road tax. . .

I love buying my Zed presents, such as exhausts, Berks, Uprev, plenum spacers (and polished) full set of Samco hoses, carbon slam shield, carbon engine cover, Brake & battery covers, BC coilovers, spacers . . . . My physical age is 56, mental age is. . . . ". . about 12" as the old advert used to say. Not sure if that makes me old - or stupid - or both. My kids say Dad's having a mid life crisis, and . . . . they're probably right. Age is an attitude of mind and has only a tenuous link to the calendar However - don't like body kits (Veilside owners should be shot in the carpark, just like Jeremy Clarkson said) and try to avoid chavvy things (like K1 zorsts) but in the end - it's your car, it's a free country, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, you can do what you like. Life is for living and you only get one go so you might as well enjoy it.

I bought Y21 ANH about 3 weeks ago - had to buy 2 sets of plates so could put the legal one on for the MOT, then back to this one once I came away from the MOT garage

Stock Catalysers (problem solved, not needed now)
ianphampton replied to ianphampton's topic in Wanted
Isn't this forum a fantastic place! Many Thanks for the offers of help and the advice received. Passing on the information to the MOT garage, they took her out and " . . pushed her pretty hard" (Their words) and now called me back to say "All OK, passed this time" Seems all it took was to get her properly hot enough and 'Hey! Presto' - Bob's your uncle. Anyway - Thanks again for the offers of help (The guys at Abbey had offered to remap the ECU to super low emissions, send it back, pass the MOT, return it and re-map her back to where she is now - so plenty of other solutions in play, too!) Oh, and by the way - I called Westway Stockport for a price for new stock cats. For my JDM, they were £748 each (plus VAT) so £1795.20 including VAT - alternatively the UK ones (With no guarantee and NOT returnable if they didn't fit as my girl is Japanese) were £720 for one side and £738 for the other (eh? Different prices each side? ) = £1749.60. I said I'd think about it, and didn't order them. . . . 'Robbing Bar-Stewards' comes to mind. . . . Cheers Ian -
I'm running Berks High Flow Cats - car in for MOT and the emissions are just failing the limit. I sold my stock cats when I fitted the Berks - does anyone local to Manchester have a pair of stock cats I could borrow - or buy?

Tarmac will have both red and blue within a couple of weeks . . . . better to buy from him on the forum than eBay anonymous

You don't need to be using the max speed in the Zed, the buzz comes from how you get there as well - and you can use the power and the acceleration perfectly legally on 'A' and 'B' roads much better than you can on motorways One of the things I love is the ability to overtake - and the acceleration and pace means it is much safer in the Zed than in some slug bucket I was coming back from my brothers' (Wimborne) up the A350 and then up to Swindon - all classic 2 lane old-fashioned 'A' roads and the ability to pull hard from 40 to 70 meant that the overtaking was quick, it was fun, too, and the journey was thoroughly entertaining. I can remember posting on here about the joy of travelling in Scotland, too, and on some of the bends and poor surface roads up there you're very likely only doing 50 ish but it's a postive joy giving her the beans and feeling the power gripping the road and thrusting you out of the corners - and all within the speed limits As they always say - "It aint what ya got, it's what ya do with it that counts"

I have an old BSA Super Meteor air rifle which is now about 40 years old - put a scope on it about 38 years ago and it takes pigeons out (and collared doves) very nicely from about 30 to 40 yards. Sometimes (if my aim is a bit off) you have to go down the garden to perform the coup-de-grace after they've been knocked out the tree but are still moving (Sorry to all those faint hearts on the forum - but the darn pigeons wreak havoc in the vegetable patch and it's peak season coming up as we plant stuff in the spring) I was given the Meteor as a birthday present for my 14th birthday. I pull the barrel through every time before putting it away, and grease the spring and trigger actions every year, and it's still in very good nick, shows that good maintenance is important in any mechanical device, but if you look after it, it will perform faithfully.

Go for it! I also run a 350Z as my "mid-life crisis" car (my sons' description) and a Toyota Hilux - the Hilux is work and the Zed is personal - though I use the Zed for visiting customers whenever I get the chance! Recently (like a week ago) got a personal plate for the Zed - I saw a good one for the company truck about a year ago but couldn't afford it - still looking, though! All cars are female but - I was intrigued to see yours are different genders, whereas my Zed is definitely feminine but the truck is 'butch' (Ahem)

I didn't measure them exactly before they were installed, but it's something like - The overall length of your stock parts is . . .say, - 450mm The overall length of the BC Racing part is . . . .425mm (on maximum setting) - they have something like 25mm of adjustment so you can lower them further So, just fitting the BC in place of the stock suspension will drop the car 25mm even on max length setting If you get the extension pieces, which are just spacer links, they are something like 50mm so you lift the car back up to full height, and you can then use the adjustment in the BC system to lower it to wherever you want it Exact dimensions I don't have - but no doubt someone who has fitted them will know. Note, you need the info from someone who has fitted them, rather than just someone who sells the boxes. If you are in the south, I'd suggest discussing it with Abbey Motorsport - don't know who else has actually fitted them Cheers Ian

I had BC Racing Coilovers fitted (by Abbey) and really like the result. You can turn them right down and on fully soft they're quite a bit softer than stock - ideal for a gentle run with the gf on a sunny day You can turn them right up and on Hard they're much firmer - ideal for track days. I think fully firm is too hard for normal driving - I have mine normally on about 11 or 15 clicks up - so she's just a bit firmer than stock. The really nice thing is - it's entirely up to you as to how hard you want her - drive it, adjust a few clicks, drive again - until you have it just right for you. One issue you'll need to think about - standard BC settings lower the car about 25 or 30mm. That may be fine for track - but imho it's too low for normal driving and you'll bottom out on all sorts of road humps and things. Plus - if you lower her this much you'll need new link arms to correct the wheel camber. Not much extra - but it will add £100 to your bill. BC can supply with extenders so you can drop it less than this. I only lowered mine 15 - 18mm and even so I need to take it gently over some humps - sometimes just going over mini roundabouts will grate. . . . ouch. (Yes, I know - so go round them!) Anyway - discuss this with whoever you choose to fit them, as the amount you lower it may affect your daily driving. Good Luck, tell us how it goes!

Mine is Canvas. . . . . though on days like today it's nice to look up at 93 million miles of fresh air (Yes, I know it's really just 140k feet of Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen mix then space vacuum - but there's no poetry in that comparesd to 93 million miles . . . )

I took my "Fairlady Z" off my boot, too - gentle warming and dental floss worked really well, then wipe off the glue with some acetone (Ladies Nail Varnish remover) and then polish I think it looks better - but definitely its entirely personal taste viewtopic.php?f=72&t=49867

Just a quick thought after a pleasant experience today - Called in to Lockwood and Greenwood (Manchester) (now in Ashton as they've moved from Droyslden) to check an engine management light & fault code. They'd been busy a couple of days ago when it first appeared - but Dave called me today and said they could check it this afternoon. Note - no prompting, he knew I wanted it checked, so HE CALLED ME without any chasing Put it straight on the analyser, gave me the printout after clearing the light. It had taken probably about 15 minutes. I said - "What do I owe you for that?" and he said "Oh, nothing, you've been in a few times, we know you" Now I know it wasn't a huge gesture - but isn't it nice when you have a garage you can rely on, who calls you back, and is happy to build the relationship?

This may not be helping much . . . . but I have a set of OEM suspension avalable as I fitted BC coilovers a few months back You're welcome to my original suspension for something around £200 not sure if that helps -
