Nice video, looks like the traffic wasn't too bad so you could enjoy your lap From the datestamp on YouTube, it seems we were there only a few days apart, gorgeous autumn weather Definitely planning on going again, maybe see you there, then!

Definitely adds . . . . .nothing to the bhp, but engine bay bling is always good, as it adds to the Brrrm in your imagination Of course, your Samco is the wrong colour - orange ones add much more. . . . . Before After

Delay in responding (apologies) about "Green Gazebo" re-inforcements as I tend not to open the covers up in the week - but did so today to shoot a couple of pictures Vertical supports added as 6" - 8" of snow made the whole structure drop under the weight - just used simple timber 20mm x 75mm that I had in the garage, cut a notch in the top, then cut carefully to length and tied to the aluminium struts Then corners done pretty much the same way, notch to fit around the aluminium and then cut to be a tight fit, and tied in position Did this a couple of years ago and just had to re-tie them to make sure they were still taught each autumn Post up some pictures of your build when you're done -

I keep my girl in a green gazebo, she's lived in that for about 3 years. A few extra points though - obviously it was NOT designed as an all year all weather shelter and I've had to add: i) 4 more big rawlbolt fixings (each corner) to bolt it to the floor ii) 7 extra supports as under the weight of snow a couple of years back it sagged really bady iii) roof struts in all 4 corners and 2 in the long sides for the same snow reason as ii) above iv) 4 extra corner guy ropes to BIG securing fixings - when it's blowing over 60 mph winds it tried to take off and. . . that was an entertaining couple of hours as you can imagine in a howling gale, lashing with rain, me getting soaked and desperately adding extra guy ropes to stop it blowing away But after all that - it's lasted 3 years and it keeps both the sun and the cold and rain off her. It also has kept the fireworks and rocket sticks off! I especially wanted to give her some protection as mines a soft top and I din't want the soft top baked or frozen. Obviously I wanted a proper garage, but didn't have the spare cash . . . .anyway, Good Luck

Carrie Replied to PM Cheers Ian

Simon I sent you a PM with bank details etc - but it didn't go as your message box is full, and will not accept any more messages! If you can clear out your messgaes, PM me and I'll respond with bank details - Set is all ready, so will ship as soon as the money arrives - you'd better send me your address, too, but better over PM than in plain sight in this thread! Cheers Ian

The BBC ran a piece today about apes having a mid life crisis - just like humans. As part of their description of this they said it was exhibited by " . . .middle aged men . . . buying sports cars" And they showed - a SAAB. I was aghast - with a couple of options for reasons - Option 1 I'm 56, and I bought my 350Z 3 years ago. My kids describe it as "Dad's mid-life crisis car" Now if a typical mid life crisis makes you buy a SAAB - how bad is my life if I've bought a ZED? Option 2 We all know the BBC is populated by, umm, persons of a very tender disposition, and I guess they all drive Toyota Prius, so perhaps, to them, a SAAB is an extreme vehicle. This, implies, people who drive Zeds are the spawn of the devil, and so far beyond the pale as to be beyond the ken of anyone at the BBC To extrapolate this rant - the people in the Road Planning depts at the council are all probably of the same psyche as people at the BBC, which is why they put traffic lights, and speed bumps and 20mph signs everywhere, so more red-blooded persons - who tend to drive slightly more exiting vehicles like the Zed, are on the edge of 2012 society, and will all probably be cast out, at some point.

Simon - tried to PM you - your message box is full message said:- "Simon I've emptied my message folder - sorry about that Let me know if you want the plain aluminium set or if you want it anodised Have a look at www.colour-anodising.com for the colours available Cheers Ian"
-
Message folder now heavily pruned so open for any PMs Ref any individual colours - min order at Colour Anodising is £100 I'm afraid - doesn't matter what colour, it's just that's the min charge I'm afraid. As a matter of interest, this covers up to 500 parts which is obviously what we did when we made the multiple sets, but for a single set - nothing I can do about it. If you want the plain ones, maybe your local anodiser will do you a reduced rate -
-
I have for sale sets of anodised washers, with complete set of stainless bolts. The bolts for the plenum come in both lengths to cater for those with & without the plenum spacer. 5 x sets of Red 5 x sets of Blue 5 x sets of Orange 2 x sets plain aluminium - Note, these are not anodised Sets comprise: These were made for Tarmac when he was selling them, and they're left over from the parts I made for him. Selling now at £50 per set including delivery. I'll not be making any more, so - when they'e gone, they're gone! If anybody wants the plain silver ones anodised in any colour of their choosing, this can be done, but to anodise an individual set will add £100 to the price, I'm afraid. Pictures:

If you go for 45 on the rear you HAVE to have 45 on the front or you'll get traction control issues - For reference I went 45 profile on 17" JDM wheels and I do (occasionally) still get the odd hiccough from the TCS if I'm giving her some vigorous exercise. It's OK for 99% of the time but if you pull out to overtake and give her the beanz she'll hesitate - which is pretty disturbing as you're out in the overtaking position. Turning the TCS to OFF solves it (provided you've turned it off when you know you're going to overtake so BEFORE you run into the issue)

My son uses blinkbox from his Xbox - quality is excellent and even recent stuff is available - you pay for what you watch so it's not a monthly subscription. As it's all on his account, not sure about the costs - I seem to recall his latest purchase was all of series 2 of Game of Thrones which is about 10 hours of HBO for about £18 = £1.80 per episode - but they've only just finished screening this in the USA so it's very current. Don't know about films, though

Police and Crime Commissioner Elections
ianphampton replied to ioneabee's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I've just voted in Hyde (Cheshire) and they said I was the 73rd person since 07:00 this morning - the lady behind the desk had managed about 80% of a paperback book today I had received exactly zero information about any of the candidates but had googled it earlier today, spent 30 minutes looking at who was standing and their views on stuff There wasn't anybody who had said "No prosecutions for any speeding offence" (this is a hot topic with me at the moment as I'm on 9 points) and nor were there any candidates advocating summary executions for crashing on the motorway (you have to be REALLY stupid to have a crash when everybody is driving in the same direction and I believe anybody who doesn't drive within the limits of visibility or conditions deserves to be dragged from the wreckage and tossed into the ditch at the roadside) so I had to allow for a few concessions in selection of my chosen votee -
Modifications that can be done on a budget?

+1 Good advice, this -
Not a recent experience with RS - but when I was looking around to see about getting the JDM limiter removed in 2009, I phoned RS to enquire - left 3 separate messages, asking for a callback, explaining what I wanted - never got a reply. Compare this with what happened when I called Abbey - called back within the hour, really helpful explanation of the options, explained the costs and the pros and cons. When I took her down there, cup of coffee - marmite toast - plenty of information about the UpRev and how the tuning works. As I say, this is now 3 years ago, but comparing the 2 - since that time she's been to Abbey about 5 times and I've never had anything other than total confidence in what they've done. Let's just say I take my girl on a 500 mile round trip whenever I need anything complex doing on the tuning (Manchester to Surrey) but am still convinced it's worth every penny. Customer Service is important, especially so when it's related to intricate things inside the Zed, you need to know you're entrusting her to someone who not only knows what they're doing, but also cares about what they do - and how they treat their customers.

. Put the Nurburgring Logo on the rear number plate today It's made a big difference to the speed - it's knocked 30 seconds off my laptimes already . . . . . . .

If you had £35,000 to spend on a car, what would you choose?
ianphampton replied to a topic in Other Cars
If I had £35k to spend I'd go for a supercharged 350Z Roadster. Finally, someone I agree with Once you've enjoyed open top motoring, you'll not want to go back into a tin box - so buy a 370 and get it supercharged -
I found you need to drive her 'vigorously' for a while - just doing it for 5 minutes won't do it - but after a nice session she'll feel MUCH better. (I did 4 laps of Nurburging over a Friday afternoon and then Saturday morning - and she felt absolutely on fine form after this, much more responsive and alert. Of course, you need to find somewhere legal to really give her this blow - needs to be not on normal roads! )

"Mary Anne" by The Shadows in 1965 and this was about 50 years before any downloads were available! I was 9 in 1965. In 1967 I bought "See Emily Play" by Pink Floyd - I guess this one might be worth a bit now, but it was played over and over on an old Dansette record player . . .

Lights blue touch paper & retires to safe distance
ianphampton replied to glrnet's topic in Insurance
It's probably all academic as self-driving cars are on their way in the next 5 - 10 years - I believe - i) they'll never get round to making any of the sensible changes in that time (like 10 year re-tests) ii) they'll set everything on the self driving cars so you have no choice of speed, or gear, or road position, you'll just have to sit in the thing and never DO ANY DRIVING iii) people who enjoy their driving will be lobotomised or chemically neutered. Anybody who wants anything other than a 1 litre diesel will be classified as antisocial and sent to be "re-trained" (see George Orwell for details) Make the most of your Zed driving now, people, we're the last generation who'll enjoy any freedom, and the people who set the speed limits, design all the traffic lights and all the wonderful road networks will take over. Resign yourself to it. -
The Zed will end up at 45 in a 30 limit so easily - Cruise Control stops you from the speed creeping up if you're not paying 100% attention
