i actually needed to replace the rear pads before the front.
They start to break up when they get old

there is a little metal flange thingy on OEM pads that when the pad is worn, will rub against the disc
Does it look like a clip?
like a L shape thin piece of metal

pads are always slightly on even when your not braking. Perhaps they are so low the the wear indicator is making its noise. First place i'd check anyway.
