  1. I agree with you kinda, but am I wrong in saying your an older more experianced driver? If your an old skooler you have probably had many many cars that are rwd and are used to it. Most of my generation are scared of rwd and they think its gran turismo style that you keep spinning out. Honestly when we where younger and still my freinds now say i like it but its rwd that puts me off. I always drive with it on, but it never comes on though. I dont push the car hard as Im still very much scared of it. I'm 47 DBlock and I've driven mostly RWD cars without incident for 30 years. However, I ain't Jay Leno and my car purchases/borrows have been: Ford Escort MG Midget Vauxhall Chevette 320i 325i Volvo 345 323i 350Z All of these cars had no TC and I managed to survived the daily oversteer/ditch/fireball which you are worried about. The 350Z is powerful bit it ain't an F40 or even a TVR. I recently went to Abbey and I was all of 250 bhp at the hub. Do me a big favour, if it's dry this PM, go out for a drive and turn the TC off. You'll notice that the car will feel more responsive during changes and quicker off the mark at lights etc. It will not spin and you won't die. I really believe the "fear" you have (and this is genuine) comes from Top Gear/Fifth Gear. Where Clarkson/Needell take out a powerful RWD car and drive around saying how nice it is and then turn to the camera and say "and now I'm gonna turn the TC off". Then you get the loud music, lots of opposite lock, spinning off in to fields and maybe "your" generation just assume this will happen when you turn the TC off. IT WON'T!!!! They are making the cars do that and they are good drivers. I'm going to Keevil (aerodrome in Wilitshire) tomorrow with PIMM and I intend to "do a Clarkson" and push the car way over the limits. I'm doing this to see where I can make up time at Castle Combe and also to improve my overall driving skills. I'll post the video on Monday night and perhaps it'll prove useful to show how fast and safe the Z is with TC off. Of course I'm gonna be heading off in to the wheat several times but that'll be at track speeds pushing over the edge of traction, something nobody should be attempting on a public road.
  2. Am I the only person that gets in car, turns on ignition, turns off TC and drives off? (Except when wet or icy) Can't believe that anybody leaves it on. I've had the car for 2 years and never span the wheels with TC off. All my track days are with TC off and the car is VASTLY better. It worries me that people think the moment you turn TC off the car will spin in to a ditch and catch fire. It won't unless there are external issues, see above, or you are driving at track speeds on the open road which is, er, illegal. Genuinely, if you think you need the TC on all the time, you need a different car. (Not directed at OP, just an observation)
  3. "My favourite "Those f*cking minis were ganging up on me" " My favourite too! See 2 x videos above.
  4. Of course not a race. Just a hell of a lot of fun. Pity all the SW and Wales and Midlands garage queens will be too busy polishing their door hinges to come along.............
  5. I Think track knowledge may play a part here ..... That an me being whimp on the loud pedal - I only got an SC fo bragging rights down the pub and I don't even drink Wht time are you leaving / aiming to arrive? Leave home at 7 to get there for 8 and on the track between 9 and 9:45 depending on session allocation. Don't forget to strip car at home and wear something long-sleeved and no shorts. PM me if you want some CC tips. But I am an estate agent and I might tell some porkies........
  6. Thanks mate I don't use traction control any more Strart car turn of Traction - I get the TC light on the dash at low speed tight turns if I leave it on and she has such good grip on the R888's it's not been a problem. I found out last night that a mate of mine is now a Toyo importer/distributer so that's handy I was fixing his PC and asked as he had an email address of info@toyo888.net (bit of give away) He did say order early 888's are like hens teeth! Mod wise - after some research -I'm getting quotes sorted to remove the UTEC and have an uprev remap (with Berks HFC due to the law change next year) and the addition of an oil cooler, we are also looking at changing the SC Pulley arangement to further reduce slip, or a bit of work with a dremmel to stop the belt rubbing when the pinch rollers are adjusted all the way. Will let you all know how the Track day goes and I'm sure when Captain goes flying past (he knows the track) he will be posting Vids of it for months! Still looking at video cameras for me at the moment - just worried as I was told Castle Combe do not allow sucker type mounts anymore? Ha bloody ha! If I go "flying past" you then call the ambulance 'cos I ain't coming home.................. No suckers or hand-helds at Castle Combe. Fixed internals or externals. My £10 jobby is gaffer-taped to the front tow-bar or under the rear hatch release.
  7. Love the "out-of-window" spy shots. WTF.
  8. Top man. Make sure you get a backward-facing camera otherwise I'll never be seen...........
  9. Sorry the lights were a swap so no spares Scary, quick and bloody awesome - to drive that is We are still getting to know each other but for the moment at least my limits seem well short of what can be delivered! Going to try and book the track Day that Captain posted about tonight, I really want to put her on a track see what happens with my foot down in 3rd! I'll be right behind you filming it. Looks like there will be a lot of that. You never said you were s/c on the other thread........... viewtopic.php?f=36&t=50352
  10. Anybody old enough to remember VD? STD for anybody over 45.....................
  11. I'd wait a year and save up and buy somehting that won't break (ahem ) There is a 550 hp R35 on Pistonhead for £38k. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2770709.htm In a year these will be around £30k and then you should have saved another £5k so you'll have £20k to add to your current car and Bob's yer uncle.............and Fanny will be doing 200 mph sitting next to you.
  12. O Errr I'm worried now, I'm only coming if the big boys play nice! At least I won't need a camera while I'm on track In Front!!! I'm only a danger to myself - and Minis. Been off a few times chasing those buggers.................. 7:54:35 for the fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLeotYbXBxI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6J8hfNJeyw&NR=1
  13. Free to watch. Link if you want to "play" http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/trackdays/dates.asp
  14. £170 for the day - very well marshalled and quick. 15 minutes every hour until 17:30 so 7-8 sessions if busy or 4 sessions in morning and open-pit in afternoon if quiet. 1:26:3 to beat................
  15. Well done. Course a bit wiggly for my liking though. Was that an M3 CSL by any chance going super-fast in vid 2?
  16. If you look at the prices of them... that should help you choose Too tue. My Goodyears were £540 fitted etc. and he chucked in laser alignment for free. Only about £100 more than I paid for the Falkens but waaaaaaaaaay cheaper than the Michelins.
  17. Anybody fancy joining in the fun?? Track day. Possibility of open-pit in the afternoon.
  18. Replaced my Falken 452s with Goodyear Eagle F1A. Night and day. Stretch to the Goodyears if you can. Quieter and grippier.
  19. +1 ish Although I would imagine that speed limits were broken and possible "driving without due care and attention" could be cited. Not criticising, as the video and cars looked great.
  20. Ive just re-watched the video small in the forum windo and it look dark. watch it in HD full sceen in youtube and it looks better IMO. You're right. It's better but I'd still would prefer it without though...........
  21. It may be too hot in June/July for top down in Florida unless you get a big cowboy hat and Factor 30 it to the max. Went to Texas last month and hired a Mustang convertible. They are really terrible cars but lots of fun cruising and top down singing along to rock/country radio is just fantastic. I'd always go top down because you can't go fast in the States anyway and you will always regret the moments when taking the hood down would have been just the best but you didn't have the choice.
  22. On the west coast there is a news flash when there is an orange fireball in the sky i dont get that ? sorry I think he means the lack of sun up your way.................
  23. TBH Husky I'm not arguing with you per se, just the concept of "correct English". The word teenager didn't exist until the 1950s (dreamt up by by NY ad-men) but almost immediately became common usage. The very best of text-speak will be amalgamated overnight and the rubbish stuff will be discarded. Text speak is no indicator of intelligence, pride, education or class. It (probably) can only be taken as an indicator of a comparably young age. As for your last sentence, the answer is yes! Text speak is self-evidently at the very forefront of the evolution of the English language and you are judging people who use it.
