That's odd most modern engines take a 14mm (thread) 16mm drive socket plug, never seen of one that uses a 10mm socket on a car engine, 10mm is tiny!
-
Cheapest option is to remove the motor and clean the commutator and free up the stuck brushes if your competent, usually works.
-
DE plug thread is 14mm the drive nut is 16mm socket, LOL! never once used a torque wrench to install a plug in my 40 odd years of building/maintaining and tuning engines, its common sense really, if you cant install a plug correctly you really shouldn't be plying with engines.

350Z Hypertech Max Energy Sport Power Programer
Tricky-Ricky replied to Jared350z's topic in Performance
I would be very very surprised if it can actually insert a map into the std ECU, I suspect its just a glorified throttle controller that's also capable of reading and clearing DTCs, I think its claim to make the best of basic mods comes from its ability to clear short term fuel trims, you could buy a throttle controller and Nissan data scan and do the same for less money. No substitute for Up-Rev remapping. -
Actually ron is not a direct indication the fuels anti knock capabilities, its a measure of its energy/power production under controlled conditions, some higher ron rated fuels have a pretty poor anti knock index figure. As far as knock detection is concerned, in my experience the are quite a few older Japanese motor/ECU combinations that can adapt and deal very well with knock, actually lets get this correct and call it detonation/pre ignition as it gets lumped in with knock anyway. One further thing to remember is that det/knock sensors also become worn in that the piezo crystal gets less sensitive with age, and also engines become more noisy with wear, so frequencies change so det/knock gets missed on both counts.. In any case my point was that for a modern ECU the DE is pretty poor in that it cant deal with det signal after 5K RPM presumably because of the amount of mechanical noise generated by the engine after this point, so why didn't Nissan use a wide-band sensor or two with different frequency responses and a better written ECU? because basically they didn't want to spend the extra development cash I suspect Since you profess to be so knowledgeable on the subject can you tell me if the rev-up and HR versions have the capability to actually sense detonation over 5k RPM? I would very much hope so.

One thing to remember here is that ron is not an indication of fuel knock resistance, and I suspect that supermarket 95 ron would have a much lower knock resistance rating than say Shell 95 ron, I was never advocating running what is after all supposed to be a sports/performance rated engine full time, but I really cant see 97 ron being any problem, however I still find it unbelievable that what is supposed to be a modern engine/ECU cannot deal with lower ron/knock rated fuel without braking ring lands through det, poor design IMO. I too have spoken to Mark and I do believe he mentioned that particular engine, and may have mentioned the non det monitor after 5K RPM but I really cant remember his explanation about why, I'm sure something like that would stick in my mind, but its was about three years ago now. I think it was the DE fragility compared with older motors that stopped me going any further with tuning it, but then I guess you hear horror stories about most motors/cars if you look hard enough.

Unemployed must work for their dole
Tricky-Ricky replied to The Bounty Bar Kid's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I think the thing that galls me about the whole political/national deficit, the reasons for it and how to change it wrangle, is that 98% of it is bulshite! the reigning political parties use the press and media to manipulate the populaces thinking on these subjects in order to steer it to the direction they want it to go, it serves to mask other more pertinent issues that they want out of the public eye, while keeping the consensus of opinions on there current target the welfare system. We soon seem to forget all the political scams, both party wide and personal that have been it the media in the past, funny how soon we forget when the attention is on another focus! the fact of the matter is we are all being manipulated and scammed by the government not the dole que. -
Unless you are going to add an exhaust, decat, plenum spacer etc then there is less reason for a remap, you can get a throttle controller to do the rest of what the Up-rev remap does, as for regaining lost power that would be down to ring seal and unless the engine has been previously abused or has done high mileage you wont have lost anything to notice.
-
Why would the knock sensing only work up to 5K makes no sense! although it does ring a distant bell! Again not being able to pull enough timing to cope with lower ron fuel also makes no sense from what in comparison is a fairly advanced ECU, especially on the UK Z. If a lot of older JDM turbo car ECU can deal with a fir amount of knock from low grade fuels by retardation and default map, it just doesn't add up with the much more modern ECU design. I know of a couple of people who have run their DE on 95 ron without problem, and I ran mine on 97 ron.
-
Why does everyone think that running on 95 and 97 ron fuel is so bad? all that will happen IF knock is detected is that the ECU will pull some timing and run a default fuel map to prevent det, pretty sure that the the JDM is mapped to run the equivalent of 97ron anyway, as an optimum but it will happily run lower or higher ron fuels, and because the UK Z runs wide-band lambda feedback it will have even less problems adjusting to lower ron fuel. Granted that if you have a remap that is centered around 99ron it would be advisable to run that for optimum power, but all that will happen is if you run 95 or 97 ron is that you will loose a little performance and not that much either, why do you think engines are fitted with knock sensors?
-
They will be fine fella, I ran NGK copper core in mine, no need for precious metal plugs unless you don't want to change them for 40-50K mls,
-
Put it this way, would you have bothered having the WI injection start on your MR2 when not on boost? and I suspect the answer is no, because charge temps are not going to rise because the air is not being compressed, so no point in trying to cool it.
-
Personally I wouldn't worry, mine was quite happy on Shell helix 10w40 nothing wrong with a semi synthetic, the jump from w30 to w40 is not great, and TBH with Nissan's engine tolerances it made virtually no difference to oil pressure, maybe 1-2 psi.

D Spec Throttle Controller with UpRev Mapping
Tricky-Ricky replied to d95gas's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
I know how they work, and why they are popular due to the restricted response of most FBW throttles, I just didn't know that they could actually speed up the throttle opening speed beyond a one to one basis, -
LOL! I just love it when numpty garages make stupid sweeping statements like this, total rubbish! it will run any plug of the correct grade/heat range, I'm guessing they just wanted to charge you the extra mark up on the Iridium's.
-
So the engine is using a lot of all, can you quantify this? IE how many miles are you doing a month? And you say the oil pressure has dropped, but by how much, and was the oil toped up with the correct grade of oil?

D Spec Throttle Controller with UpRev Mapping
Tricky-Ricky replied to d95gas's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
Everything I have read and heard about up-rev remapping says that one of the main areas that will make the engine more responsive is the removal of the throttle restrictions IE the maximum % that can be achieved in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, so if that is the case then there is no point in using a throttle controller as it cant make the throttle response any sharper, worth checking before going to the trouble of fitting . -
D Spec Throttle Controller with UpRev Mapping
Tricky-Ricky replied to d95gas's topic in I.C.E & Electronics
I always thought that if the ECU was up-rev remapped the throttle restrictions where removed anyway, so no point for the throttle controller? -
Quick bump before I ebay it.

Bump! still for sale.

Back up for sale due to being messed about!

Still for sale, if anyone who owns a UK 350Z in the Kings Lynn area wants to get in touch and connect it up we can verify that it works or not?
