Really cant see what you would have damaged by driving it for a couple of miles, the worst that could of happened would have been a cracked plenum but it doesn't seem like that your problem, it could have worn through the plenum if it was for an extended period, but for two miles it should be fine, i suspect the problem your experiencing is unrelated. I guess its possible that with enough engine twist the brace could possibly cause an engine mount bolt to displace/bend or break, but that again is unlikely.

Bexhill 100 Classic & Custom car show.....IM IN :)
Tricky-Ricky replied to JEMAN's topic in 350Z General
Used to go every year when i lived in St-Leonard's, had the 350GT in about three years ago, quite a nice laid back show.- 1 reply

Which one of these is the air bag sensor? *pics*
Tricky-Ricky replied to Rocky4510's topic in 350Z General
Air bag plugs are always yellow, it looks like somebody have been taping stuff up, so it could be that one, don't forget to disconnect the battery before messing with the airbags. -
Glad you got it sorted, thought thats what the problem was, why didn't you add this to your original thread outlining the problem? would have made for better continuity when others search.
-
Correct. Just out of curiosity why do you need to restrict the oil if it's a bb turbo? If you over pressure and over volume ball bearing races in turbos it will inhibit spool up and keep the overall speed down due to the drag effect of the oil.
-
You will need to use a presurised feed to the turbo, which could be taken from a sandwich plate, but you will probably need to restrict the flow if it a BB turbo, the return will have to be non presurised IE gravity if your using a turbo position thats higher than the sump, if not then you will likely have to adopt the separate tank with a low pressure scavenge pump back to the sump.

But if you have a genuine fault the CEL will just return anyway.

Well that sort of comment goes a long way to prove my point, and i,m actually 62 not 70 odd, not that it matters, apart from keeping me from making deliberately offensive comments like yours. LOL! It also illustrates whats wrong with people today, if they feel an any way threatened/derided whatever, they come out fighting without any thought, like i said common sense has all but disappeared.
-
What stands out to me most these days is that people on the whole seem to have no common sense, the most simple of tasks seem to require training, whereas 40-50 years ago people would know instinctively what to do and how to do it. I have taught myself to do most things in this life, and find my own common sense and intelligence seems to supply me with enough savvy to tackle most things without disaster, for instance i think nothing of tearing something apart to learn how it works, and fix it, yet that sort of aptitude seems to have all but disappeared, at least in the people i have met in the last 20 odd years, and i despairer at some of the people you end up talking to on the phone, it almost feels like devolution is happening.

Easier just to disconnect the battery, it will only reset short term fuel trim.

Carried out a rad fan motor fix today (small how too)
Tricky-Ricky replied to dpbayly's topic in 350Z Guides
Did you undercut the commutator? if not then you will likely have the same problem again, as thats one of the reasons for the motor failing to start. -
Nissan oil pressure gauges are notoriously inaccurate anyway, so unless it was showing this on a good mechanical gauge i wouldn't worry.
-
As said on the other thread, its highly unlikely to be "pinking" yes granted extreme heat can have an effect on AFRs however because the MAF measures air density, hot air will result in less fuel, but AFRs should remain the same, (unless the MAF is actually faulty, without flagging an error code)there is also an air temperature sensor that will signal the ECU to add or remove more fuel dependent on air temp, the only way your likely to get genuine "pinking" would be through the use of very low octane fuel, that the ECU could not retard the ignition timing enough compensate when it receives a signal from the knock sensors.... or a failed knock sensor thats not flagged up an error to the ECU somehow. Like i have said before by what you describe its something like a heat shield or something else that becomes loose with expansion from heat.

Possible purchase but uneasy on milage!
Tricky-Ricky replied to harryjackson's topic in 350Z General
At that sort of mileage i would expect to be looking at replacing things like dampers, wheel bearings, suspension bushes, a second exhaust etc etc, and thats besides engine ancillaries, i would look at getting it checked by a decent mechanic before jumping at it. -
Engine is hot like hell ,car drives fine,no warning lights!
Tricky-Ricky replied to Dashurik's topic in 350Z General
I always thought 90 to 100c was bloody hot...LOL! -
Apart from std coolant temp gauges having a rather broad range before showing any fluctuations, the average coolant temps will range between 86 and 100c depending on thermostat, and is much the same for all petrol engines.
-
Its a Z with a 7" longer chassis and two more seats, and only weighs 100kg more, and is just as quick as the DE Z, you would struggle to tell the difference when driving it, (apart from if was a genuine Infinity G35 it would have the steering wheel on the wrong side), but nearly all that are in the UK are the JDM Skyline 350GT. nearly all parts except body and interior, excluding seats, are interchangeable, exhaust is 7" longer and so needs an extension pipe, but apart from that all mechanicals are the same. Oh! and its better looking.................

I bought Blyss air con from B&Q the other day..if you looking at it my advise AVOID AVOID...It so ****ing loud, like i fighter jet, even on low setting..Will give it back on monday! Thanks! One for the avoid list.

Optimal Engine Oil Temp - someone please set my mind at ease
Tricky-Ricky replied to ZZZ_2306's topic in 370z General
Oil temps will vary with the work the engine is doing and also be influenced by ambient temps, but anywhere from 90c to 115c would be normal, coolant temps will stay pretty stable as they are controlled by rad fans and air speed. -
Still 30c outside and 29c in my living room here in Norfolk, with all the windows open and two fans going full tilt, time for air con i think.

Yes modern diesels are pretty impressive, now i have got used to my Civic, i can probably drive it quicker on B roads than i could my 350GT, even with an 07 plate it can get to 60 in just a tad over 8 seconds, and with the low RPM torque delivery it can make rapid progress even if it doesn't have the drama.
