350z Vortech V3 Super Charger discussion.
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to nurrish's topic in Forced Induction
Why are people so frightened of F/I , With the ability to be able to live map the UK ecu now , I feel these cars will drive like a stock car but only a little faster with some boost supplied by either a S/C or a Turbocharger. S/C is the way to go with a stock motor, to much mid range torque kills the stock pistons/rods. A turbo make a huge amount of mid range grunt where as a S/C only enhances the stock power band. Nurrish was told not to push his car as far as he was , l am sure running the same boost as Ian, l could of tuned in far leaner as I didn;t need to worry with detonation due to the very high boost pressure. The Vortech kit is very agriculture I feel , doesn't fit nice , where as the HKS kit fits like factory and sounds like it should nice a quiet , Ians car once he as sorted the noise issue will be a nice fast road car, sounds like he hit the hard rev limiter at the weekend something l map in to keep you off of the rev limiter , another way to break these motor is to keep bouncing off of the rev limiter. Do the job right and well i.e a reasonable amount of boost on a stock motor and you have fun 100% honest opinion. I know my red UK 350 will definitely be having a HKS S/C fitted once it is finished, makes the cars go like they should do 400bhp is plenty in a RWD sports car. Mark -
have you tried running the car will both roll bar links disconnected? can you borrow another pair of front shocks?
-
Steve, was the car stock when you logged throttle or after you uploaded the Osiris ROM?
-
LOL....+1 that Mark still around...was starting get worried
-
run the car at a lower boost and your never have any problems. You lot worry to much, a well set up 400bhp S/C will last as long as stock car , but as long as it is built well and set up well, Nurrish was running to much boost full stop and I told him that. run a HKS kit, it is quiet, fits very well and makes good power @ a low boost level.
-
We can supply a Osiris kit, if your not going to tune yourself not worth going for the Tuner Uprev kit, but I would prefer to do the base tune on the dyno espec if your going to remove the Cats. Then if your want anything else tuned I can do it via Email. maybe if there was 2/3 cars to be tuned in Ireland it may be worth shipping me over to ireland

HR tunes well , only filter kit to use is a Stillen kit , Nismo sound good but suck hot air which isn't good. Stock air filter fitted with HKS filters work real well. On the exhaust side , if you want the most bhp possible your have to remove the cats but this will be a little noisy, but fitting De-cats and a XYZ Y pipe fitted with race cats and the stock system will work very well with a reflash. The stock rear exhaust works very well but a performance system will give a few more BHP but not a lot. We normally find around 15/20bhp & 10lb/ft of torque with all the above mods fitted and remapped. Mark

I think it will be just a steering wheel cruise control part as I think all the looms are fitted to all the cars and a ECU RAM upgrade Cruise cars have a different ECU to non cruise cars.

Nurrish , want to have a deal with some dyno time!!!!!!!!
-
So a little time tweaking the compensdation map will get you hitting the template AFR quicker , also your find the stock injector latency to be a mile out so this will slow the time for the car to hit the template AFR. Try disconnecting the lambda sensors and map in open loop far better to understand what the car is doing in relation to using the fuel. I am sorry but tuning on the road isn't for me , I feel after over 15 years tuning cars some on the road but mostly on a dyno you cant beat dyno tuning , the car will use the same point on the maps you can check this on the 350Z ecu by logging load figure , it is the same road/dyno , you can try all the AFR,s to get the best for the car your tuning not all the same model cars like the same AFR and then you can work the cam/s to get best cylinder filling at all RPMs/loads. Igntion timing, your correct they make best torque before you hear det but not by far , but you can tune the motor rich and run more timing or lean and less timing and get the same results. Mark
-
yes they will if the compensation map is a long way out , whats the correction showing while it is trying to produce the correct AFR below or above 100? We tune open loop to make correct AFR a sper template map ( but our template set up is different than a stock car for good part throttle torque/bhp and transition fuelling) , then turn the closed loop back on.
-
Ricky , his logs are full throttle runs I think. But I am thinking about transition loading runs at part throttle, like when your feeding int he throttle coming out of a corner. BTW I now have the RAM for the 350GT,s like you car ( we wont crap this thread thou)
-
Wizard please tell why we aren't any good top fit nitrous kit. I am sat at my desk waiting for either a phone call or a post to say why please? GT4zed Would you run a ecu piggyback mapped for a completely different fuel than what it is going to run on? I owuldn't at all , 1st stop would be a run on the dyno to check safe running and I know it wont be right , I tuned cars on both sides of the Atlantic on Uprev and the maps are totally different. Mark

I would leave stock headers,Tubular headers are only worth around 2/3 BHP we have found but we are working on some new tubular headers that should make more top end BHP but wont be cheap. But tubular headers need supoorting properly otherwise they do crack , we have seen a few. Fit de-cat pipes and a Motordyne XYZ fitted with a Race cats and your Scorpion system with a remap these will work very well together. Mark
-
no clashing just giving my opinon , mapped 60 Z,s now so I kinda know what you need to do.
-
Steve, Looking at your compensation fuelling map I presume you only full throttle mapped , your need to spend time to make the car fuel correctly on part to full throttle transitioning. Ifeel the car with be pulling/adding to much correction fueling to give the template AFR you are asking. These car need to be tuned under constant load/rpm to make part throttle tuning possible , this is what makes the car feel real crisp and nice on part throttle. Ignition timing also plays a big part of part throttle response. Also I feel your running far to rich on your full throttle AFR for most of the RPM ranges, get the car on a dyno and play with the AFR it will open your eyes whats works and doesn't work. Haltech is easier to tune you can tune live, very easy to tune. We can tune live on the UK cars thou. Mark

have you setup the stock wide bands to give the correct AFR then? I presume your using performance logging then if you laying logs over each other? If your running in 3rd gear removing the throttle limiter will make most of the increase peformance your finding , also you find the car will run richer once you get in bigger gears, you need to running in 4th gear at least to get a better ide aof AFR,s we find. Mark

You tweaking the maps yourself or e-tuning from the logs? Any questions ask away , or mail me your logs and I do your maps at a very cheap price. Mark

I have these , send me your bank details I get some money sent off to you. Mark -
nope headers are real long connect up to the stock exhaust system.
-
I hope to try some of the SG long headers very soon ,most prob will be on a engine dyno with both a DE and a Rev Up motor being dynoed, will let you know as soon as I have some info. The SG headers cant be fitted with cats. Mark

Greekman our dyno reads at the hubs not the wheels.

13.2 to 13.4 AFR change , stock car swings the AFR more than this when it is on closed loop.Thats as we are swinging the inlet cam agressively that causes the bhp blip. Remember this is a full throttle pull you dont normally run full throttle from this low RPM when driving on the road No worries re your idea,s re the AFR,s but I am 100% happy with the AFR. To be honest if you had rods and pistons fitted i would run the car far leaner than I am at the moment stock pistons are made of chocolate , any detonation and your break a ring land simple as that. I think you need to see some of the Utec mapped cars I think you see some big AFR swings. I am in the US at the moment tuning the Project Z VQ motor on Performance Motorsport dyno, try to get a vid and get in posted up

Scottish owners **Abbey coming to Scotland!!**
Mark@Abbey m/s replied to jacr87's topic in Abbey Motorsport
Hi, not really happy for weekends I am afraid, work far to many weekends at the moment. Can we sort a week day if possible. Mark -
Why do say it is lean then? Cars pulling no hard boost so no need to be running rich. Torque flatens off due to S/C running out of puff but it has maxxed the airflow meter. But running over 400bhp l feel is enough for a stock motor.
