    Alfa Brera

Hi Ricey, After selling the Z I've now settled for Alfas, to compare it: - Dealers are still a hit and miss and servicing is more expensive than the Z - The new generation is not as bad as the old 147/156 or older - the 2.2 JTS engine is a joke, with a massive lack of torque (IMO) my 159 lasted 5 months only because of this, also returning 24 to 30 mpg depending on the type of driving. -2.4 JTD is probably the best engine when it comes to economy/performances returning 30 to 38 mpg, and the V6 still the best for sound and fun. -The Brera is not as sporty or as good to drive as it looks -My money would go on a GT 1.9 JTS unless you can afford the V6, as it drives better and is more practical, the only reason for not going for it is that we have now downgraded to one car in the household and as the wife will have to do some driving we have settled for a Giulietta. If you fancy a GT and have some spare cash this should be fun (shame for the colour) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4087373.htm Hope it helps
  2. If you like the style, I would recommend an Alfa GT, went for a test drive today and was pleasantly surprised. a simple map should make things even better
  3. PD engines are very good, strong, easily tuned, "quick" but run out out puff straight away. Diesel straight siox would be the better choice but I suspect it might be out of budget. Hoping to try the JTD engines soon
  4. avg 20 round trip and I agree that it is not healthy how about a cupra r mk1? A bit chavvy but can return 30 if you're sensible with it and goes when you want to have fun
  5. hi vik What's your mileage? I've sold the Zed last august and since I had a 200bhp Fabia TDI with 304 lb/ft (came with a bigger hybrid turbo, plenty around) good fun, quick, returning 50mpg no matter how you driving but, no toys and doesn't feel special. Sold the Fabia after 6 moths and got a 159 JTS which I sold yesterday, nice car, nice interior but returning 24mpg in town and 30 on a motorway at no more than 70mph!!!! Now looking into 330d ( 6to 8K for an 04with 80K miles ) or at an alfa GT diesel. I only use the car at week ends and do 10K miles per year mainly short trip but it seems like that if you want some torque and the mpg, TDI is the only way
  6. Hi all, If on any interest, here is my contribution Never got stopped and passed the MOT but I think this escaped the check
  7. Personally, not in the market just yet as still looking around at other models as well as having to sell the current car first. are you on the stagea oc? More info on the white one?
  8. Another high perfomrance nissan with a very low price tag and also included on my list to replace the current car .... Not a looker (says the one with a Skoda) but definitely a good car, Is it an auto? What is the real mpg on one of those? heard anything from 18 to 30 For a Masa you're looking at around 8K again the 2K to 5K for a standard one.
  9. Same problem here, within the price range you might be able to get an high milage impreza, which would cost you more to mantain. the front looks good once de bagged and with a nice grill personally is the rear that I'm not 100% conviced about. http://www.skyline-owners-club.com/foru ... hread.html
  10. Keep the reviews coming, been looking at those in the last couple of weeks, been out of the scene for 4 months and is driving me nuts! Interiors a smarter than the Zed, 4 seats (but I dont think you can fit a child seat) 450Lt boot, similar performance and mpg, only import available and mainly automatic 60K miles around 6K.
  11. I did warn you It has been a sensible buy and can also be a project for the next couple of years, couple of thousands spent on it can get you 270bhp and I wont be scared to take it to the track, the final aim is step back for now so that I can get back in later
  12. Well, I warn you now, it is not a looker or performance car, in fact, it's a diesel.... Pick it up today, the bodywork is spot on, serviced regularly and more, we went to see many cars in the last few weeks, some too big for the wife (bmw 3300) some out of budget (bmw 123, scirocco, A3 etc..) the VRS is something that I've considered from the beginning, I prefer the look of the MK1 over the new one which I find a bit bland. Drove it home today, good motorway drive and need some engine tweaks when driving in town, running 195bhp and 300 torque thanks to an hybrid turbo and some other bits, by ealry next week I should be receiving springs and anti roll bar and all going well by next summer I should be running around 240bhp ( going up going forward). The idea is to stick with it for couple of years and than leave it for the wife so that I can go go back to a Zed
  13. Yep, it was around £100 including shipping, never had a problem with it
  14. Welcome Ben Your car looks awsome and is the best Z I ever seen
