well am pretty confident that my reading of that sentence is what he meant - he doesn't make sweeping comments unless he KNOWS ^^ That is how I read it You are not 'quoting' the whole sentence in context - "Whatever.." Geo - you have left that wide open punctuation!!!
-
You seem to be intentionally misreading the emphasis within this sentence for the sake of an argument... I read that sentence as "No matter what all the rhetoric is about - If Scotland becomes independent we will have to enter the EU as an individual and go through the same processes all have to"

well done Mr Mac

Ach Rob that is sh*te!! It wasn't in the village was it?!

This is exactly what I was getting at George - many of us would probably like to see an independent Scotland - however it is the thought of Salmond and his cronies governing that independence that scares us - if they were propelling a vaguely Nordic model / had some hard sums around re-distribution of wealth, the education system and welfare we might listen

Or go and print this off and post in the kitchen / coffee area To All Staff, RE: SWEARING AT WORK It has been brought to management's attention that some individuals throughout the company have been using foul language during the course of normal conversation with their co-workers. Due to complaints received from some employees who may be easily offended, this type of language will no longer be tolerated. We do however, realize the critical importance of being able to accurately express your feelings when communicating with co-workers. Therefore a list of 18 new and innovative phrases have been provided so that proper exchange of ideas and information can continue in an effective manner. 1) TRY SAYING: I think you could use more training. Propaganda like this everywhere up here - and as it is attention grabbing it is this sort of material that folk without the capacity for critical thought grasp onto and start parroting ad lib

Ooooh darling - nooo - you would trust a Government (or any political party) to present figures impartially? Would also be particularly wary of claiming we have seen increased poverty / deprivation as a direct result of Westminster - certainly in terms of Social Policy this is a direct result of SNP refusing to ring fence funding and simply handing it to Local Authorities under general department purse - which is meant to ensure it goes where the locality need is highest - what it means in practice though is that the most prominent (loudest) Heads of Service get the biggest purse and divide it amongst their best buddies

we can show trainspotting on every channel just to bring back reality That was what Kevin Bridges said!! - jay I would've 'liked' your comments above but have reached my quota for the day

i'm entitled an opinion as much as I am entitled to post on an open forum. I took part in a discussion where I was having banter with cragus and you turn it into a name calling match. But I didn't expect anything less from the forum wee man. My points still stand Currently Scotland spend more than they pay in, yes there is oil on the equation, but its a separate discussion in its self and a dwindling resource, and has been said, would be Scotland bargain chip if it has any hope of keeping the pound. Yes there is great wealth in Scotland but it also has the uks highest levels of deprivation, with one of the highest levels of unemployment and currently the lowest living age in the UK. Putting banter aside, if Scotland got independence and technically it could manage on its own, but at what cost? Taxation would go up and inflation would increase, the cost of living would go up a lot in order to support those who need it nd to maintain Scottish infrastructure. Dblock you said why are we trying to keep Scotland, its because as we're just coming out of extremely hard financial times, bows not the time to divide and conquer, we as a union are stronger united than divided nd squabbling over who gets what, It seems now has been chosen as the UK government seems at its weakest, Alex salmon has a list of demands I don't think he's going to get. And the UK have already tried to sweeten the deal by axing jobs in the Portsmouth docks instead of the Clyde bank. If the union splits there are a whole load of new issues, we can't keep our subs in Scotland so those and their jobs will move. Same with other military jobs, they'll all get shipped out and spread across the UK. And the list goes on, I just don't have time to type before going to work. The pair of you stop it - Neil that wasn't nice calling names and Richard you put away your wooden spoon you do make some bl**dy awful sweeping generalisations sometimes! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you just have to agree to disagree - it was quite a nice light hearted discussion unitl folk started quoting second hand figures and name calling.

Gary just came away with a good one - "Oh aye Scotland is at the forefront of green energy ... where's the money coming from? ... oh aye OIL!!"
-
A thought occurred to me there - if it was another party behind the yes campaign I think many of us might be more on board ...
-
Yup Neil - it is the young people that worry me (says the youth worker) - it is now our job to ensure that our young folk can make an informed decision which in the face of tabloid press and enormous youth unemployment is proving to be extremely difficult ...

I do wish folk would stop harping on about oil revenues - FFS - if we were independent they would be spent before they were available according to the sums being bandied around. I certainly would not dare to quote figures unless I had sat down and done the research myself and checked it out - but my Degree was not economics so that would take a wee while
