  1. I cycle too, but have no issue with the comment as from what I can see these days its true, a cyclist is certainly not as accountable as a driver and they know it, hell I know it, I was out later than I should have been the other week, I had no lights, what was I going to do, walk home with my bike or ride, I rode home very slowly on the pavement, it was only 4 miles, a police car drove past and nothing, you can be dam sure if I was in a car with no lights on the pavement I would have been stopped, is there a difference? Whacky stated all cyclists have no boundaries or respect but edited after I pulled him up. Should've quoted. I agree there are bad cyclists and I gave an example of that earlier. I really object to the comments that suggest anyone who rides a bike breaks the law at every opportunity. I don't. I stop at pedestrian crossings. People seem to ignore the fact that there people who use the road that break the law regardless.
  2. sorry ive just seen this and im quite confused of your logic? a car with a bulb out so less light now blinds people? on a serious note cars have an mot test once a year to pick up on this how many inspections does a bike have ? One side out you get brighter from the other side and usually main beam.
  3. Sweeping statement there. I cycle so I have no boundaries or respect....... FFS
  4. It was me that mentioned speeding and that was based on when I'm in a car... And have my speedometer too... You can use more than one mode of transport you know EDIT. I'd like a link to your statement that cyclists break the law more than motorists please.
  5. Oi coldel, I'm a fat Middle aged banker.... Admittedly I don't dress in Lycra.... Well not on my bike anyway. As I said London is nuts and to be honest i thought the majority of cyclists breaking the rules would be couriers or traffic droid. I take your word for it. SteveD. How many cars do you see with a light out and they continue to flaunt it and not get penalised even when it means they blind oncoming traffic. You know feck it, let's ban everyone from using the road just in. Case they break one of the rules. Then no one gets away with it
  6. I disagree. I spend more time in a car, I stated how I use a bike to prove this. I'm not pro cyclist over motorist. I'm trying to bring balance to the debate which I know is futile here
  7. that is the reason tho they cant get caught thats why the do it give em plates and red light cameras they wouldnt do it Yep agree. I'd be happier if cyclists had to complete some type of "cycling test" before being allowed on the road and if it was made illegal for them to cycle on the roads without an identifying plate/lights & some type of insurance. Fairs fair. I agree about a competency test if some sort.
  8. Is speeding breaking the law? For cyclists and motorists alike yes. My point is that going 1mph over the speed limit is the same penalty as jumping a red light in the eyes of the law. I'd bet the majority of motorists exceed the speed limit by at least 1mph on a daily basis. I'm just a little peeved that you seem to think more cyclists break more rules on the road than motorists. I think they can be as bad as each other. I try to stick to the rules no matter what form of transport I'm using.
  9. dont take it personally and if you reread my post i said i dont know where you come from but yea there is crap drivers and crap bikers, but i do honestly feel and random webcams not cyclist webcams editing all to make car drivers look like the devil prove that the rate of law breaking cyclists in a city environment is more than 2 or 3 x higher than motorists I agree in a large city like London cyclists seem to take the pee but I'd be interested to know if those that do break the law are professional (couriers) or commuters/pleasure. I cycle to try and burn a few calories on a mountain bike averaging about 14mph on my journeys. These are mixed from cycle paths, roads and trails. I sometimes cycle or walk to work (just over a mile) and see problems with all of those. For example pedestrians and cyclists wearing earphones so if you ding your bell they don't hear you and get irate when you have to pass close to them.
  10. Assuming you meant "as many" then I call absolute bullsh*t sorry. Daily when driving back & forth to work I haven't seen one motorist jump an actual red light in years, ...cyclist's I have seen doing it, well at least 5-9 per week. as per my post fully agree with you easily 20-30 cyclists in 5 minute 0 cars Please reread my posts. I said I know cyclists are mental down south. I'm from chester (which I said in the post you partially quoted from). I'm not trying to argue but to tar ALL cyclists with the same brush is ridiculous. Don't get me started on pedestrians using cycle lanes
  11. Assuming you meant "as many" then I call absolute bullsh*t sorry. Daily when driving back & forth to work I haven't seen one motorist jump an actual red light in years, ...cyclist's I have seen doing it, well at least 5-9 per week. Overleigh roundabout in chester. Each time I use that roundabout I see a motorist jump a red light. Either to try and beat the lights or because they are watching the wrong set.
  12. My last word on the subject. We forget that everyone using the roads are actually squishy vulnerable beings and we should keep that in mind when trying to make progress be it pedestrians, cyclists or motorists.
  13. If this was aimed at the bus incident that "bad judgment" could have lost me a limb if I hadn't been quick enough to react.
  14. I don't live in London but I know cyclists take the pee down there. Here they are a little more observant to the rules of the road. The numpty who nearly took out the girl is the exception to the rule. That said you get the weekend packs that think they rule the road here (chester outskirts are very rural). I agree a red light is a red light. I see as any motorists jump them as I do cyclists. I know it's different up here but I'm getting the impression that folks feel cyclists are the devils advocate when there are as mang motorists who are accidents waiting to happen... Hence Mr whackywills thread. Not having a pop at you coldel as I know areas are different and maybe my attitude is different from most. P.s before I started using my bike I had similar opinions
  15. There in is the problem, most drivers obey the rules mostly, most cyclists don't, mostly. I am no model driver, I am sure most of us aren't but you can see those cyclists that do stick within the law must hate knowing that the big majority that take the pi$$ just end up tarring them all with a brush. I'd say get out on a bike and see how many drivers are considerate.... On anyone journey I will have multiple incidents with cars not looking beyond me the cyclist and just wanting to make progress regardless. I've had cars try to over take me when I'm positioned to overtake a stationary bus dropping passengers with cars coming the other way. That particular numpty had to apologise when he parked up at his place of work only to find me leaving the bike shed. Even as a solo cyclist you will have encounters with drivers who think you shouldn't be on the public highway.
  16. Oh and on the same journey two different taxis nearly took me out by overtaking me on blind bends with other cars coming the other way which meant they were as close to 2 inches from me when they cut in
  17. Please don't send me to hell but a few weeks ago I was out cycling, pulled up at a red light as you do. A girl of 8 or 9 was to my left waiting for the little green man to tell her she could cross. It turns green and at this point another cyclist comes from behind me, cycles across me to go on the pavement to cut the corner and nearly wipes out the girl. Pushes past and hops back on the road. This really did pee me off! I try to ride my bike within the Highway Code and use cycle paths where I can but this numpty just took the biscuit :headbang:
  18. Appreciate the write up suits. I plan to give it more time as I know to some halo is superb I just never had the "feel" for it. Bizarrely felt the same about tomb raider but loved the uncharted games. Go figure I'd just got to the citadel (I think that's what it was called) last night so I knew I've only scratched the intro.
  19. Yeah I had a go last night for an hour or so, enjoying it so far but not sure it's going to be a killer game. I've never really got into Halo so it could be that that's holding me back if you know what I mean.
  20. Hmmm interesting. I've tried to get them to say they are from Microsoft before and they twist and turn to not say they are. I told one lot I was from MS and I was running a trace on their phone line as well as recording the conversation
  21. Anyone tried the Destiny beta yet? Got it downloading yesterday but not had chance to try it yet
  22. Thanks SMD and nice tank setup. I had a friend who spent months building a big tank and allowing the living rocks etc to acclimatise or whatever it's called before adding fish. He had the tank in a room with a sofa and nothing else. I found I'd sit there and watch them for ages too. They can be so relaxing EDIT: fixed grammatical errors
  23. Oh and they never say they are from Microsoft. I've tried to get them to say they are but they will always say something like "windows support desk" and when challenged if they work for Microsoft they sent and say similar to the above quotes. I work from home from time to time and if I get one of these and I have time I try to string them along and act as though I don't know what I'm doing.... They get so frustrated
