You are both entitled to opinions. Bennet, you are not always correct so perhaps you could respect the opinion of docwra even though it differs from your own instead of arguing about it. FWD, RWD, 4WD, MR, FR etc preferences are all subjective. Maybe some people should get out and drive other cars instead of slating cars they've never driven. Thanks for your points and yes sometimes i am can wrong and would put my hand up. But this was not about right and wrong. As you rightly say its all a matter of subjectivity and thats what i essentially said and also stated my preference. Where did i "slate" anything? I have not been uncouth with my arguments nor shown any disrespect for anyone so why the undertone suggesting so? Debate is healty and stimulating and is sometimes opportunity all parties to learn and should be fun, civilised and good natured especially in an open forum like ours. If this is not encouraged thats Ok, but unbalanced or partial moderating is very unflattering. Not to worry i'll keep schtum and away from any argument.

Since you asked. I'll start off with: -KW V1 <£1000 -KW V2 <£1300 -KW V3 <£1500 www.motorsportworld.co.uk have these going for 10% less at present so even cheaper than the average price above

Dude you are becomming tiresome with "i" this and "i" that and my "mates" that so much so your dog will begin to run only on its front legs to make your point keep all that technical shizzle away be fore you hurt yourself and stay with the facts. An ST is not a better drivers car than a zed and it just happen to be FWD. I am entitled to state my opinion and whether you like it or not its a worldwide consensus from better placed than ourself that mostly RWD is dynamically a better drivers car than FWD. can you put up a poll here and see for yourself?? This does not say some FWD cars are not good or even better than comparable RWD cars. And this i have always maintained . If you want to nitpick through my post and quotye out of context then do so with your blinkres off. Finally......................... just keep beating up on your sorted zed that you have spent xyz on and cannot match you standard pug with parada tyres then it maybe you are are flattering your self about your ability or Bs-ing or can't set up your zed properly for the conditions in which the comparisons was made. I hope i will be lucky to take revenge for zed-dom and (wipe that smile off your face in the pug ) ..........errrrhemmmm show you that all being equal on any track in the Uk i will skin you alive in that Pug or in a standard zed as it will be unfair with mine. I end my side of this OOT debate that never was but that get it out of your mind that "i write off" FWD cars.

Well positioned to comment then? Ive owned a 172, a Lancia HF Turbo on Grp N suspension and 3 GTI-6's. Ive also owned 8 (more?) 200SX's from bone stock through to over 400hp and fully track specced, a few BMW's and obviously my 350. On track Ive used everything from Mk1 Escorts through to 500+hp Skylines. This kinds negates your road conditions/power to weight etc arguments as well as Ive probably already experienced the differences on both sides of the coin. And I am the most attractive man in the world, as with all other humanity related facts. That statement is rubbish mate, you cant generalise like that without any eviudence at all. Im talking from personal experience of owning and driving all of these cars in all conditions, I can produce at least 5/6 people with exactly the same story as me - wrote off FWD as being crap, got a very good FWD car, changed mind. FWD is definitely more accessible, but in most situations Ive got just as much control over the back of my 6 as I have my 350Z - see earlier comments regarding trail braking and weight distribution. The 6 is standard BTW, the Zed is modified Back to my original point, all Im saying is dont write FWD off as not being as good as RWD until you have experienced a good one. With respect, you almost certainly havent. Dowcra mate, i started by saying i did not want to make an argument of this as we all stating merely opinions and our experience Do you think reelling off a list of cars owned makes you better qualifed or means only your opinion is correct or experience relevant? I have had a long list of cars too but that is far from the point! I agree with you FWD is more accessible and apart from cheap to produce thats another selling point same way most RWD cars come with inherent understeer setup In fact i will add by saying FWD is more flattering because of so much understeer that you think you have more rear control when actually its just pushing the front wide. you talk of weight distribution and trail braking but TBH on a FWD car its limited mostly to regaining front grip to help with turn and not a fine art as in RWD where it is dynamic and applied through turn in, mid corner and exit to keep the car balanced for maximum speed. It is feel and maintainance of this dynamically that makes RWD so rewarding and even more so than AWD. More so I said RWD is overall more superior... not all RWD are better than FWD I ended my post buy saying what really its all about....being petrolheads and enjoying driving as in truth there is no right or wrong choice but rather what we want from our cars or what we can afford to feed the undying quest for driving for pleasure. Nobody wrote of the focus ST and most people here right chimed in to the Op querries and suggested the St is inferior to the zed in most department and.................. thats correct right? Without a doubt there are FWD cars out there that will outhandle a zed but as i pointed out you need to actually homologate two cars to a set rule to be able to compare them and thats why there is a thing as class in racing. So until when can have such a comparison it will always be matter of opinion if a FWD is better than a RWD or even an AWD for that matter but as well as you and i know just look round the world why do you think most sports cars are rear wheel drive especially as FWD is cheaper to manufacture? Why are there more RWD or AWD cars out there racing than FWDs? The answer is because the are good but limited especially as you up the power and want more feel out of them! That saying FWD cars have come a long way and there is so many wizardry to make them hand very well. We own 308 GT and its so honest. i can drive 8-9/10th of it ability in most twisty A roads and i feel chuffed but same road at 6-7/10th of my zeds ability i feel like a champ because i worked for it So If the OP's question was can i get a FWD that is exciting and handles well then no doubt there are quite a few to point him to. But if he is suggesting he wants to switch from a FWD to a RWD then depending on what cars he was refering to we can make suggestions as appriopriate and in this case its ST to Zed which is a no contest Putting this aside i will like to wipe the smile off you face in that litttle Pug of yours . name the place and the day ok i'm joking and i hope you see the whole thing lighthearted as its supposed to be

To lift off some of the recent gloom about development at the Ring. first was the good news that the old operators contract have been cancelled which means public pressure is finally paying off then i saw this lap and though it was organised by the opersators it was an idea that had been on for sometime and recently brought up by Dale at Rent4Ring but the told him it was too dangerous only to do this themselves That sumarises how this operators have been slowly monoplizing and putting local bussiness that existed long before the Ring became the famous out of business Hopefully the new operators will learn and do whats best. Enjoy

I used to preach this on a daily basis (hell, my other car club put FWD in the swear filter and changed it to "scrabble" ), and from 2000 until 2010 everything I owned was RWD. In that time I also became a competent drifter, pi**ed about on snow and ice, did trackdays, road trips and all sorts in a variety of RWD cars. Then I took the Zed off the road and needed a new daily, so bought a 306 GTI-6 Peugeot, and pretty much from day 1 I was converted - its more fun, its faster through bends, its more precise, theres more feedback from it and obviously you can drive it "spiritedly" in the wet, rather than crapping yourself most of the time. ITs taught me to trail brake, to use lift off oversteer to change angle of attack and to use the engine more for weight distribution while driving as well. Ive since driven 205GTi's, 172/182/Cup/Trophy Clios, a Focus RS, and had a quick go in a Lotus Elan and Integra Type R and pretty much all of them are more rewarding than a Z33, with a whole lot less risk attached. Im sure most will disagree and Ill be called a philistine and a retard, but until you have driven a properly sorted FWD car you have no idea of how good they can be. In a straight statement, although my HSD'd Zed is fantastic, the Pug will beat it for speed and enjoyment in pretty much every situation. Im not saying one is better than the other, but dont write cars off because they arent RWD, they can still give an incredible drive. Docwra you are a philistine and i disagree with you completely. Don't want to make an argument of it but the comparisions are wrong! i am not a competent drifter, nor a time attack king but i can safely say i can handle myself safely behind the wheel in most situations and have never owned a FWD car (bar my first car a ford escort back in the days) but i have driven some wheel sorted FWD cars both on road and track and i have also been given many a cold sweat by FWD cars on the Ring but its not that simple to generalise from you experience alone. There are lots of parameters to consider just to list a few (assuming driver skill was equal) - power to weight ratio -level of surface grip -Tyres -Mods eg suspension tuning, chassis tuning -road or track layout etc etc There are pros and cons for each setup as to be expected but without any doubt RWD set up is the far superior overall just like other automotive facts. the only challenge i can give you is to drive a really well sorted zed(ie one that is raw....stripped of almost all the factory GTness) against a similarly sorted FWD car then you will truly understand. If we ever met i will hand you my keys to see for yourself and its still a work in progress but the transformation is advanced Finally my friend you are never be called a retard for all petrolheads are passionate people but can often wax too lyrical and misunderstood by the zombies that live among us and see vehicles as only means of transport or beast of burden...that title goes to them:surrender:

Neilp Build thread-- " NOS.... I Need NOS!!! "
GT4 Zed replied to Neilp's topic in Member Build Projects
That is one mahooosive rear wing Neil. Do you have an adequate front splitter to counteract that for its will gereate more DF that you have lost in weight and then some The zed in the pic has rear diffuser sideskirt/aprons and a barely visible front splitter with i suspect are all in balance and therefore creates Df without too much drag. You really want somthing that is match or developed on the car and as such APR could provide a one stop solution. Both GT 300 and 500 series wing combine with their front splitter or similar eg Stillen should be perfect. See this link for some general APR info. http://aprperformance.com/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=45 Sent you a Pm -
Hi Jez, I will be interested too but not this month as i have been cleaned out at the Autosport show where i got race seats, harnesses, uprated my KW V3 to clubsports and bits and bobs for my cooling mods. Still need to get a bolt-on roll cage( head up Neil ), subframe bushes and a general service & refresh including pads/disc/exhaust header camcoated and track tyres all by early April Weight comparisons will be nice and i agree that the side quarter glass is unnecessary to swap unless the discount is very good for a GB Also are the lexan offering scratch proofed and UV protected?
-
I'll be indebted to you for the info as always Did you have the low maxx rails? And did you source them locally?

Just got my self a set Cobra suzuka pro GT seats directly from Cobra at the Autosports show this weekend at a good discount price and now looking for seat rails that would side mount these into the zed bolt-on. I want something with adjustability and that can seat low. Any insight appreciated if you have fitted race seats in the zed. I have bride, sparco and buddy club seat rails in mind but not sure if they fit the zed bolt on withouit any modification. Queue Ian Anybody interested in any cobra seats send me a pm as i can get the same deal for you which is basically buy one get the other half price. The only downside is it will take 3-4weeks to be delivered since they are manufactured to order. NB; My GT heated leather seats will be up for sale but will be delivered when my cobras arrive They are in very good condition and i would just need a deposit to secure the sale. Pics will be up with my other items for sale asap.

Chris i am surprised you had fitting issues with the k-sport as i had none and so did Craig(muddy) here. Before i got them back in early 09' fitting was one of the things i checked and the feedback from the evo and scoobie crowd was it was spot on and so was performance vs price. I have had only praise for the preformance of the kit and the only down side after almost 3yrs is the corrosion of the SS bits eg bolts and nipples. I can have it refreshed or get new ones cheap but can't be asked. I guess using a race compound pad does not help and even the known brands will suffer the same In any case you are doing a fantastic job and the colors are mind boggling I am surprised you have not painted the callipers or the rotor bells keep it coming we are all behind you to see the end product

Looking good Neil How light are those seats? The look OEM style as oposed to true buckets. Never been a fan of the bottle but the hidden instal of Wasso's bottle in the passenger side rear storage compartment makes for a good sleeper. Otherwise everything is is moving ahead full steam. Can't wait till you reveal the other mods! -
Anyone going to this? I would expect to see regulars like R35Lee Will be attending saturday all day and hope to meet some forum members and get some bargains as well for the zed Post up if you ae attending

Ooohhhhhh poor fox How could you do that Seriously its just one of those things. I got a rabit into my foglight on my Alpina B3.3 and Sytner BMW to me to the cleaners £2500 is a reap off to get the repairs done for what you have quoted but we all know the stealers prices The Koyo 36mm or any within that size will fit without any mods AFAIK but the rest will require cuting the fan shroud to fit which is not so much of a big deal or you can get slimmer fans and shroud to keep it like OEM. My feeling is a combo of aftermarket parts and OEM fitting where applicable will be cheaper especially if you can get the labour cost down. The one thing you should check is you ac condenser for leaks. you should be able to repair the nismo bumper and mod it with the Zmanalex type grill I will be doing my rad upgrade and replace the leaking ac condenser but will do all the fitting and only pay for the ddegassing and regassing so works out not too bad

As said already this swap is an alternative to getting big power FI or 450-500whp Na with the right upgrade parts as an alternative to FI a built VQ block or NA bolt-on which is less reliable especially when running high boost. It is probably cheaper this route and parts/tuning options for LSx motors are cheaper in the states and so is labour. There are 3 main companies offering swap kits - Sikky (http://www.sikky.com/view_item.php?id=27&catid=12) - Hinson (http://www.hinsonsupercars.com) - Chasebays (http://www.chasebays.com) But if you ever consider this swap then you have to do your homework first to address all the pros and cons. Pros: - availability of parts and tuning options - very easy to get 350-450whp as NA with intake cams etc) -More torque per comparable Hp level - very reliable engine - Can't beat the sound of a V8 - Cost the same or less to get the same level of power as a built VQ but obviouly more reliable. - cheaper to run on comparable power level Cons: - electrical side of things can be frustrating but solutions are more readily available. - cost of getting the engine ad Gb into the Uk and installed In general sikky swap kit is the almost bolt on but their wiring loom service is unreliable. Chasebays looms are best. Hinson have an overall unreliable service and very poor after sales care. There main issue most face is to get all the nissan guages/ speedo to work by integrating the nissan ecu in tandem with the GM ecu but if you are going to use a standalone ecu then it is less an issue. Note: Whatever LS enegine you go for you should be aware that the ancillaries are located differently so there may be issues fitting. The T56 gearbox is what you need for a bolt-on swap Other GBs eg T6060 will need modding to fit the existing kits. The safest route is to use the Ls2 and T56 GB from the GTO which is what most kits are base on and will fit with little or no need for modding. If money is no option then the GTO combo with stand alone ECU and digital race dash will get everything working like it was made that way. The other issue is getting the AC to work like OEM via the dial but there are solutions out there and if you car is soley for track use then you will have got rid of the AC anyway. See this link and bild threads on my 350z for all the info you may need. LS1 tech is also very useful. http://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-driv ... hread.html It will be nice to see someone do it and it is likely Falcon will be first.( Spoke with R35lee at the classic car show at the NEC and these was on the pipeline )

Yep Ksports and D2 and by the same manufacturer who also make lot of the so called "big brands". AFAIK only AP do their stuff themselves. I have the Ksports and i'm very pleased. The most important is to match the pads for your application. PF 01 race compound are the best for track day and have good modulation for road use. Negatives are brake dust and cold squeal. DS 2500 will be perfect for road use and occasional trackdays. There are all parts available to service the brakes. If I were you, i would go for the new Ksport super 8 which is a a floating disc setup and normal 6pot at the rear. I will be selling my fronts BBK next year for the super 8 as i want 380mm disc to run semis lick tyres. You can have then for a good price if you are prepared to wait.

Have a look at this. http://www.plastics4performance.com/ Personally i would shave weight between the axles first by replacing the heavy heated seats with race buckets. I would only take weight over the rear axle to counter balance the weight gain of a half roll cage so the front to rear weight balance is maintained. Loosing the spare wheel and running half tank +/- carbon hatch with glass window is more than enough to loose supeflous pounds on the rear in a standard car IMO without affecting the bias too much Shaving off unsprung weight eg light weight wheels is most ideal as its a ratio of 1:4 per kg shaved and you improve your aceleration and braking performance. Same goes with the Lightweight flywheel. I just changed mine to JWTs and the car has been transformed for the better

Decats all the way and also the bungs on the K1. Took me ages and countless gaskets, bolts and torging of exhaust bolts to finally realise this At the Ring car park lot's of pips still belive my car is turbo'ed and i'm lying when i say its not

Nope! Slicks are not allowed on the Ring for TF or on any european road! I have always used Michelin pilot sports 2 N1 rubber and been very happy with it grip vs longevity. IF everthing goes to plan i would have race seats and harness for next season with a bit more power to boot and will run with semi slicks - R888.
