depends on what you want it for, there are 2 methods of running it.
1. you have it on a button; when you want a boost you press, and it should give a considerable boost
2. is to run less boost but have it kick in when the car revs to a certain point, almost like a turbo.
these are only going form what i remember seeing else where, i've never run NOS so i can't make a fully educated guess, but my answer would be is suppose its worth having if its done right.

For fuel injected cars you can either run a dry(NOS alone in the intake) system or wet(NOS and fuel in the intake) system which fundermentally is the main difference. There after you can have a multide of delivery systems depending on your application eg progressive systems, rpm based progressive, time based systems etc
I personally think that NOS if well executed is the best way to improve performance at a reasonable cost and good reliability and you can choose not to use it until when you need that 50-100bhp shot in the arm
so i have always been surprised why people have not taken this route here in the uk. i am making some inquires as we speak and once i have all the info for the zed with costs i will post
