Well I am back again... the stock head unit is working... Hurah...! :-) lol CD player keeps saying "press eject", so I think the head unit is faulty, but would probably explain why he didn't fit it back upon sale. Anyways, tried the PAC Nis Rom thingy and my aftermarket head unit is powering up but no sound. So obviously somewhere with the Nis Rom there is a wire out or something. Next question, is there anything here on the forum that explains how the Nis Rom should be wired up at all? Im on a roll now ;-) lol...

lol... I knew I had probably done something like that. Your a star mate. Sat here laughing at myself thinking what a complete berk...! Will head out now and swap things about. Will post back shortly. Cheers again for all the help this far...
-
Unfortunately I haven't got one. I could always get one tomorrow... Personally I think I've not got the wires in 100% the right place. It was powering up early this morning. As I say, just trying to get the stock Head Unit going first, then once going, will try getting the aftermarket one working.
-
All checked and absolutely fine. Prior to changing the wires about the head unit would power up but no sound. No since I have changed the wires about to where I think (from the guide) they go, the unit will not power at all so I must have gone wrong somewhere?
-
Ok guys... so despite another day hard at work trying to get the stock unit working for now (before attempting the new headunit) I still have had no joy :-( I have put the wires back where they should be (as per the above thread). Well at least I hope I have, but the stereo wont even switch on now, so my guess is I have gone wrong somewhere with the wires. I have attached a pic from my iPhone of where I have got to thus far with the wires. Apologies for the poor quality, but if anyone can see a clear mistake in what I have done I would be very very grateful to hear... All the best, Nathan...

That is absolutely fantastic news Andrew. Best wishes still to everyone and I hope that the road to "full" recovery is a swift one for Phil. Sounds like he has some great people caring for him and I'm glad to hear its now going to be easier for you all to visit at a closer hospital. After seeing my Dad spend over 2 months in our local Hospital, I know what a strain it can be when visiting is both time consuming and fraught with difficulty... Keep us posted... regards, Nathan...

You really are a Z Legend GIXXERUK ;-) lol Thanks very much for taking the time out to search and find that post. Seems fairly idiot prrof (which is a good thing), so fingers crossed for tomorrows attempt at an install...

Thanks Steve, appreciate your help as always. I have just heard back from the previous seller and it appears that the aftermarket unit he was using was from the US and it required him to swap a few of the wires around in the loom (or whatever the technical term is). The little white connecting blocks is what I am going to call them :-) lol So whilst not counting my chickens, I am hoping that by taking a look at the wiring tomorrow morning. It could be as simple as swapping the one or two back to where they were. I wonder if there is a way of knowing where they originally should have been?
-
Appreciate the help buddy. Already in the process of contacting the previous seller. In the meantime however I will get reading I guess ;-) Thanks again and lets hope for some progress tomorrow as I am desperate to get a working stereo now :-(
-
Thanks for the scematic (or whatever one calls it) ;-) lol I must be honest in that I am not the most competent person as regards to car Audio. But I am logical and methodical and having tried the stock head unit and then the aftermarket one, to not even get static or feedback once in a while must mean an amp issue. I can't think of anything else, (but like I say, not the most competent with car stereo). I am really struggling to get at this amp for fear of snapping some of the boot plastics. Anyone come across a similar visual tutorial to the head unit removal one? I am half tempted to just stump up some cash and get somebody more in to this than me to take a look as I feel completely out of my depth :-(
-
Thanks for replying guys... When I bought the car, the guy had removed his single din unit but not fitted the original back. So long story short, in the month or so I have owned the car, I am yet to hear anything from a stereo. I have plugged the original in to the leads a couple of times and the unit powers up, but I can't even hear the radio. The speakers are completely silent and not even static flickers can be heard. Same goes when I fit the Pac and the new stereo. Not even radio static can be heard. Checked fuses under the Bonet etc, but all is well.
-
The more I look in to this problem the more I am lead to believe its a problem with the amp. Anyone know if the amp has an internal fuse and also a diagram of how to get to the amp? I think its in the boot, drivers side, underneath the headlight cluster but can't figure how to take it all apart :-(
-
Ok... so guys... I am in desperate need of help. I have all of the bits required to fit an aftermarket stereo and have enlisted the help of my Dad who has connected everything to the T... but low and behold we have absolutely no sound. I have plugged the old OEM stereo in to the normal connectors as well and we are not even getting radio static. Since buying the car I am yet to have a working Stereo. Could the Bose AMP be blown or something? Or are we doing something obvious wrong? Any help would be fantastic as I am ready to give up :-( lol

Awesome guys... thanks for that. Presumably you jack the car up wheel by wheel, take the calipers off then put the wheels back on whilst you paint, then repeat the process once dry and put the newly furnished calipers back on (wheel by wheel)? Sorry to sound dense but I really have never done anything like this before

Just ordered the Orange caliper paint. Now to figure out how to actually to to the buggers and slap the paint on :-) lol

This place is an emotional roller coaster I tell you... Only been a member for 4/5 weeks but already feel a part of this great community. Awesome to hear Phil is improving and my best wishes are with you and your family. Fingers crossed for more great news in the very near future

Just realised the stuff I posted is Foliatec... what a plonker :-( lol Unless it is a different shade (which I don't think it is)...
-
Cheers buddy... also found this http://www.teamtorquesteer.co.uk/05-foc ... paint.html I think the Focus orange would be a great look on the calipers as thats the Orange I have in mind, although that foliatec stuff looks pretty good as well. Once I get it I will have a set of pads from you as well CS... Are the redstuff ones about the best for a JDM 350z?
-
No Orange Hammerite... any other suppliers I should be looking at for caliper paint please
-
I do genuinely appreciate it buddy, yours and everybody's input. I have been so busy on other threads that I seem to have missed this Wales meet. I will take a look in that section now. I have my name for the Bristol one whenever that happens... Oh and a quick message for Paul. I have just bought those clear lens's from CinCity for my existing lights instead of whole new lights. I think I am definately going to go with a silver and orange theme with the car and feel the older style Xenon's will lend themselves better to this with the orange indicator parts. I'd still like to put some daytime running lights on them though and tried getting them to reveal what LED's they use (with little joy). they were very coy about things (I guess with good reason) but if you are happy to plan a mod with me I would be eternally grateful... Off to find some orange paint for the brake calipers now...
-
Good point matey... I didn't think they'd be worth alot... Its just I can't see myself selling the car anytime soon, so thought something would be better than nothing. I could always power them with batteries and stick them on my head when I go jogging or something like that. If they ain't worth nothing I'm gonna try and put them to use somehow :-) lol
-
Great advise thank you Stew and thanks Jay, rbiscuit and Adam. RE the lights Adam, its actually the Xenon ones I have. Presumably these performance wise are not much different to the newer ones or are they? Thanks again everyone for helping me (a relative car modding novice). Never fails to amaze me just what a friendly bunch you all are here. Only been a member a month or so and despite never having been to a car meet before, I can't wait to go to my first and put a few faces to names (plus gawk at your pristine motors with envious eyes) lol
-
I thought that might be the general consensus... I think my old man used Hammerite paint on my old Golf GTI MKII a few years back. With the fact I have tan seats and am looking at getting the bright Orange front reflectors. I'm tempted to paint the calipers bright orange as well. Have a sort of Silver and Orange theme running through the car... I do like the thought of 19" rims as well. Was looking on eBay today and my current wheels (WolfRace Shark 18") seem to be fetching around £600 inc tyres. How costly would upgrading the brakes at the same time be? I'm guessing a fair amount :-( I feel like a kid in a sweetshop that just needs a bit or direction as at the moment I feel like scoffing / buying everything :-) lol
-
Changing the subject slightly... what are people's thoughts on these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0294751844
-
Thanks for finding out buddy... What are your thoughts? Good value or steep? Such a shame that the exchange rate isn't quite what it was as that would have made them closer to £600 and I would have snapped them up at that. EDIT: I have just offered $1000 for a new set of lights from them (which I presume don't come with bulbs etc). Will have to use some existing Xenon parts? That works about about £670 / £680... that is much more in my ball park really. Any more than that and I just cant bear to open my wallet :-( lol
