  1. I'd suggest you buy some oil. Put in a ~0.5 litre and see if you get a register on the dip stick, repeat until you do.

Sounds like you're short on oil to me. Only smears on the dip stick can easily be caused when inserting/removing.

If you over fill it's easy to drain a bit out.... no big deal for piece of mind.

  2. My 2p's worth of experience running stretched tyres.

The risk for me is not if the tyre comes of the rim, but how safe the car is in the wet (if you don't intend to slide or drift).

If you take a car on track and try reasonably hard, you will find that the edge of your tyre is rounded, as the tyre has distorted under load. This isn't an issue for tyres that are in manufacturers recommended limits, as there is still a treaded section of tyre making contact to the tarmac. In fact after a few laps and tyres have rounded edges the car is much more predictable.

When an over stretched tyre distorts under load, the distortion brings the sidewall into contact with the tarmac, just a little no doubt during fast road use, but enough in my experience to lose traction earlier in the wet than a stock tyre size.

This is my theory based on my experience of seeing stretched tyres sliding a mates car in the wet.

  3. one early Sunday morning I was driving at a reasonable speed on dual carriage way... as I approached a giant screen it read: "SLOW DOWN " at first shock, and then made me laugh (no ticket followed :)

Did prove to me though that number plate recognitions works ....

  4. this may help... when I bought my Zed, after ~1hr driving the clutch pedal would go close to the floor, but I was still able to change gear. This was due to contaminated clutch fluid - as after bleeding/eplacing it was all ok.

It may be that you have lost all clutch pressure, so therefore not able to change gear.

My advice initially would be to bleed/replace clutch fluid - this is also simplest and easiest elimination and will check all clutch fluid seals (master & slave cylinders at the same time).

I'd go to a freindly local garage though, as mine didn't bleed straight away, it was a case of pushing pedal down and then pulling up a few times before old fluid started to run through - so easier on ramps with one on slave cylinder and one in car pumping and topping up every few pumps.

PS. go and see what it is like now, as before my fluid was changed the clutch pressure would come back when cold.

  5. I'd agree that it's bad form to give comment on an item that someone has up for sale...

Unless that item is unsafe/dangerous to any purchaser.

IMHO the wheel/tyre combination offered for sale would simply not be safe to use, especially in the wet, other than posing. Mods should [must !] have discretion of removing such items for sale to protect those that might not know better.

  6. Ordered

Many thanks Stew, been planning on purchasing one for a while now, as sold my last car with them included.

I can highly recommend these as a sensible alternative to wearing full harness for track days and/or enjoying [safe] fast road driving - especially if you have [slippery] leather seats.

When you are held tight in to the seat you can literally drive by the 'seat of your pants', as you feel the cars reaction to your inputs milli-seconds earlier, which makes for a faster, safer and more enjoyable drive. Ask anyone who has used a full harness and they will vouch for this - it's not only to hold you in place if your upside down :headhurt:
