  1. Just cleaned and re-oiled my K&N cones from the Stillen Gen 1. I *thought* i had put enough oil on them, but checking the K&N website it looks like i hadn't oiled the cones anywhere near enough! The cleaner kit i bought has the squeezy oil bottle with an ounce/ml gauge on the side. I have re-oiled the cones and still only used just over 50ml of oil to do both cones.... K&N recommend 36ml per cone apparently. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product ... od=RC-2960 The cones both look very red now with no white spots. I'll leave them for an hour then re-fit if the redness has passed to the lower pleats of the cone. I suspect with the K&Ns (because they need oil to filter properly), its safer to over-oil than it is to under oil. If i need to clean the MAFs in a few months i can do. I can't clean the inside of the engine if bits of sh1t get in it due to too little oil used on the cones
  2. Dammit, i sold my old Zed! Maybe i can get the new one to 111,111 miles within the next week ?
  3. Paint fella would be good, even if all he does is offer advice to the majority of folks. I would be up for getting a few chips sorted out on the day....the new Zed seems to be Night Blue with, erm, white chips If a paint fella is coming, will he want paint codes in advance from those of us who need a little work doing to our cars?
  4. Will someone please ban Tarmac from this forum? And while you are at it, Zmanalex too Right then, not saying i actually *want* some Berks, but....... .....what are they likely to do to an HR engined car with twin stillen intakes, ESR Y pipe and Greddy Spectrum elite rear section? I expect more exhaust noise...... but not really sure how much. Anything else? Is there a mild performance gain from the freer-flowing cats? Is there a risk of torque reduction thru the mid-range at all like you get with test pipes...? How easy are these Berks to fit....a few bolts per unit and new gaskets (supplied with the kit?)
  5. Just to whet your appetite: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=41189&p=610079#p610079 Sadly my old 2003 Zed is now sold (not sure if the buyer is on here?). The new HR engine car is even quicker than my old DE one was after the remap...and i thought that was quick! The lads at RS know what they are doing - the results of the UpRev are excellent with supporting mods, which it sounds like you will also have
  6. Sorry, i missed this thread! Put me down for two (Andyvvc +1) Cheers!
  7. Had a rattle on my old Zed with the K1 (only with the bungs in - with the bungs out i couldn't hear ANYTHING lol) Fix was to drop the W strut brace under the car about 5-10mm on washers. The centre pipe for the K1 isnt a good fit at all - suspect similar issues with the K2? The centre pipe had about 1cm clearance when first fitted, but must have vibrated enough on the move to hit the W brace causing the annoying rattle on my old car.
  8. Thanks - looks same as the Greddy i think. I guess the move away from the large rear cans of the Invidia caught me out !
  9. Dont suppose you have a pic of your car, like the second one of mine (3/4 on rear end view?) I'm paranoid now - perhaps the Y pipe is a bit longer than stock and has pushed everything back a bit...? Or maybe the mahoosive cans of the old Invidia are still etched into my psyche!
  10. Just trying to work out now if the pipes stick out about 1cm too far..... Hmmmm...... is this OEM fit? I've not had an OEM rear exhaust on a Zed for over 4 years I think the fact that the Greddy pipes aren't *as* slash-cut as the OEM ones exaggerates the pipe length a little too... Below image is from the rear (typical car drivers view) Final pic is from the rear but lower (typical Lotus' owners view) lol
  11. It's a single pipe OEM fit. Uprated ESR Y pipe into OEM centre, into Greddy. It took a little messing to get the pipes lined up (had to put a shim under the left-side exhaust mount on the car, then bolt the mount back onto the car). Other than that, its an easy OEM fitment
  12. Fitted this morning at Big Dude Engineering Pics and vids below. (Click the first pic for the vid). The vid is from only a luke-warm exhaust, when hot it pops a lot more. Also, sound quality on my camera is sh1te so crank the volume up! Its really quiet at idle - almost stock, which will please my neighbours. Also means i can start the car in carparks etc without every man and his dog hearing the car start up (unless i give it some right foot) Only had one run in it so far so it isnt coked up yet (you can see the release agent burning off in the vid). Above 4k rpm it sounds lovely - backing off from WOT causes some nice popping too. Im off for a play - back soon !
  13. I dont think Chesterfield has a Greddy ? [Andyvvc drives off towards J29 of the M1 with a ratchet and an M10 adapter to make sure]
  14. More pics: (excuse the skeletor fingers)
  15. Massive thanks to Chris (Tarmac) for delivering this too. Really appreciate it ! The box turned out to be 40% wasted space doh!
  16. ^^^^^ either waaaay too much, or not that much. Depends on what you class as expensive for a back-box system. I dont think it's as pricey as a 5Zigen backbox, put it that way PM Tarmac for a price, just incase it's gone up/down since i ordered one lol
  17. I reckon that will fit in the passenger seat...... I reckon we will need to open the box and put the rear section in the boot (OEM one fitted ok when i bought the car a few weeks back). Lord only knows what else is in that box . . . it is back-box only isnt it? I'm happy for you to open the box mate and check what the feck is in it...cos there's no way it will fit in the Zed as it is lol !
  18. Got a PM from tarmac - apparently the Greddy has turned up Can't wait to see it. If it's as good as the pics, i might hang it on my wall instead of getting it fitted lol !
  19. I know ths has been done to death in the past, but current stock levels on Camskills and BlackCircles seem limited. Doubly so because some manufaturers can supply the 245 width but not the 275 etc. Falken 452s are out of stock for the 275 width. Avon and Toyo are available for 245 but not 275... I'd like to stay stock sizes for the LMGT4s, so i need to use 245/35/19 and 275/35/19. Doesn't seem like a lot of choice especially in the 275 size? Thankfully i wont need tyres for a fair-few months or so, but judging by limited stock in some brands it might make sense to order them now. What are people currently running make/model wise on 19" rims, or planning to go to due to lack supplies of certain makes/models? EDIT - mods, please move this to the 'tyres' section, sorry!
  20. Plates scribbled out - but judging by Colin's comment, it might be worth stating the reg on here in case anyone trys to buy this in a few months as a repaired 370z "with minor accident damage"
  21. I have to admit i thought twice about posting the pics. But as the car was there for all to see on the M18 with no cover, i figured it would be ok. If a MOD disagrees, please remove the pics - i dont want to cause offence to the owner.
  22. Saw this on the way back from North Yorkshire today - i wasn't driving so was able to snap some pics. Hopefully no one on here? And i hope the occupants were ok !? Looks like front, front right, right side, and right rear damage. Cant be certain if this is spin related or has been front and rear ended in shunt. As per above, i hope whoever owns it is ok.
  23. Thought I should get around to putting up a review/comparison of my older 2003 GT and the newer 2007 model. HR Negatives: Silly road tax. Price. And, erm, that's it! HR Positives: Better interior. Cup-holders that work and are lit! Twin intakes. Bonnet bulge. Faster acceleration. Less body-roll in standard setup. Lighter steering at lower speeds. Lighter clutch (not certain this is necessarily a positive....it feels a bit girly!). Lit ignition barrel! Sensibly placed dipstick! The cabin is the obvious improvement over the older cars. Available (I think) from the 2006 model onwards, the revised dash buttons have a much better feel to them. The steering wheel buttons feel more certain and respond better to pushes than my old car's did. The leather inserts on the door cards are a nice touch, as are the revised cup holders which both carry a can of drink easily, unlike the flimsy one on the 2003 model. The cubby areas near the gear lever are improved too, with a bluetooth adapter in the large flip-top cubby which doesn't take up too much space unlike the old phone mount from the 2003 car. The smaller cubby is now covered with a neat sliding door rather than the cigarette flip-up jobbie from the older car. Steering wheel stalks are improved, with firmer clicks/twists, and more obvious lettering on the stalks. The BOSE system also seems to have been revised, with a clearer LCD screen and integrated bluetooth phone connectivity. It doesn't skip or cut out the front speaker either! All these interior tweaks are ultimately just 'nice to have' additions. They aren't critical. Indeed, if someone had a 2007 car for sale for a grand or two less than Glasses Guide simply because Nissan had accidentally fitted the 2003 interior, I would probably have bought that and saved myself a few grand. Never-the-less, for those who buy their cars new or nearly-new, the improved interior must have been a welcome sight. It does now look and feel like Nissan have upped the quality a notch or two....even if there is still a ruddy tape-deck in there! The exterior, apart from the bonnet bulge which is necessary to house the “80% new HR engine†hasn't changed. The front bumper has a few tweaks to the bottom-front lip, and two swooshes near the lights which unless you know what to look for you will never notice. TBH, these minor exterior tweaks are a good thing, because the 350 never looked shabby anyway. And by minimising exterior changes, Nissan have stopped themselves from adding/changing too much and risking a “Halfrauds†bolt-on bodyshop effect. My previous car had been modified over its 3 years of owwership: plenum, Y pipe, intake, lowered, UpRev, weight-loss program etc. It was RR'd last year at about 290bhp/fly (240+ at the wheels). So the car wasn't slow, it responded and ran better than the standard 2003 car. The 2007 HR model is a clear step up from even my modified 2003 DE one. The previous owner has fitted the Y pipe and twin Stillen intakes, but other then that the car is standard. No plenum, no UpRev etc. Evo Magazine claim a 0 – 60 time for the original Zed of 6.1 seconds...and 5.5 for the 2007+ HR model. Whether these times are in anyway accurate I cant say, but the HR car is definitely quicker at getting to 60 and then beyond. The acceleration is more aggressive. The gearing seems to have been made longer than even the 2003 cars which (added to a higher rev limit) means you aren't shifting as soon as you do in the older car. That means 60 is comfortably dispatched in the first two gears, with third taking you well beyond 80. The surge in acceleration and the more aggressive way it does this is noticeable. Id seen some reviews from owners saying that there isn't much in it, or that the two cars are essentially identical to drive...clearly, these people either had no genuine like-for-like comparison, or had based their thoughts on a drag race with their mates HR car with no clue if matey had floored it in the right gear or shifted early etc. I'm not saying there is a night and day difference like comparing a Ford KA and a Ford Mustang...but there is a nice difference. Even the gf spotted this on the first 20mph+ acceleration that I tried. Beyond 60 on the motorway, the car pulls better than even my modified 2003 did. There is more power and torque across a slightly wider rev range on the car, which means it feels quicker higher up the gears than even the older UpRev car did. I suspect the improved twin intakes are assisting here, giving each bank of cylinders as much air as they need. Quite what the car would feel like with a decent plenum and an UpRev I don't know. But the seemingly wild stories of 340bhp+ from some owners after these modificatons now seems more plausible to me. The HR engine is a better design from the outset, so with the correct mods and map I suspect it would respond well. Chassis wise, the car feels a little more stable and planted thru corners than my older car did in standard setup. However, my new HR runs the LMGT4 alloys which have a much lower tyre profile, so im guessing this is all it is! I'm not sure if Nissan added any chassis strengthening struts or welds etc like they did in the S15 compared to the S14a 200sx. The brakes are on a par with the old car. Same Brembo's, same peddle feel as best I can tell. So no improvements there. And given that the older 2003 car had fantastic stopping power I guess this is not surprising! I'm suitably impressed with the overall package of the newer 350z. All the smaller tweaks seem to come good in a package that was never poor to start with. (Lets face it, even a 2002 JDM import Zed with the awful 17†alloys still turns heads – the 350 is a wonderful car, and the HR just takes it a step or two beyond) I would still rather own a 370z....but I cant justify one at this point with used prices still well over 20 grand. So for now, the thoroughly excellent HR version of the 350z with a few basic mods will do me just fine.....
  24. The stillen's are awesome! And mine are the older Gen1 which are basically a urethene airbox per bank, and a short adapter plater that connects to the OEM intake hoses and allows the MAFs to be connected. They use the standard intake holes that the OEM airboxes use, no cold air feed pipes etc. Genuine K&N cones with the front of the cone also allowing air through it. Provided your exhaust isnt silly, you should be able to hear the mild roar from them
