  1. Hello,

As some of you might know I'm looking to convert my Z to run on E85, I will need bigger injectors and also a bigger fuel pump.

I've been trying to get some answers for the tuner that I might use for this job but he is a very busy chap (good sign really) and they guys in Japan wanted silly money and the US lads seem to be very slow in responding so here it goes.

Looking for injectors that can handle a future turbo build and also a pump that can do the same, dont want to get 'smallish' injectors that I might have to swap out again in the future when I go FI.

Any pointers on Size and Fuel pump volume that I'd need? And where to get them?

    :bounce:

  2. Only 7 hours till I leave for the car!!!!

V5 came through eventually so will drive throught the night to arrive sharp and collect the car.

Don't think I'll bother trying to sleep :yahoo:

 Take it handy on the road mate...

(I got stopped the first time I was 'spinning' mine...)

  3. The Zed engine and fuel system is not built to run on Ethanol based products I am advised. Careful you just do not melt your fuel lines and system. Please take professional advice on this. :surrender:

E10 should be fine, big tests in australia about it. Think 2004 350z is ok on E10. E5 isn't any bother, otherwise they would not sell the stuff!

    ( I hope )

E85 is different but they guy I'm looking to do it says it's a lot of jumbo mumbo that they corrode etc. He is running his race cars on E85 no bother!

Sure I'll know soon enough if it will take E85, I'll get warranty I hope!

  4. Had some knocking in the engine for some time now, took a good while before I actually pinned it down to be 'knocking' = sheit fuel.

My car is a Haltech Platinum tuned car when it was running E5 (5% Ethanol, sold in Topaz and Maxol in Ireland), since then it's been flying around on the roads and been pretty happy with the end result. HOWEVER... some times around 4.5 +- .3 under load it would sound like pebbles thrown around in the engine room, after some reading around online I finally took the car to a motor factors and decided to get a bottle of LUCAS octane booster.

    http://www.lucasoil.com/products/displa ... 2&loc=show

it supposed to increase the octane (proven), bought two bottles (12€ each...) filled the car with one bottle (only 1/2 tank). Drove it for a while and then went out to a private track ( :snack: ) and started driving it a bit more aggressivly... voila NO knocking at all and my god is it revving much smoother and nicer!

Conclusion: I've got my car more tuned then the petrol quality I can get...

Solution: Well I cannot be putting in another 12€ on top of the 90€ it costs to fill her up, SO here is what I did.

Went to a Maxol station that sells E85 as well as E5 (85% Ethanol), filled up with 5 litre of E85 and then 65 litre of E5, which should have given somewhere around E10 instead of E5... CAR is still flying!

(could be due to the LUCAS still in the tank, will know when I go back for another tank to Maxol)

 I'm finally happy about the way the engine sounds / drives! SO easy too!

    :drive1

    Note:

Not to impressed that the quality of petrol differs SO much.

    :drunk:

    Complete other note:

It drinks a bit more petrol.... :blackeye:

  5. Well it doesnt on the JDM version, have a sneaky feeling it doesnt on the UK/US/AUS version either but its very seldom any of you guys hit the limiter B)

I got a 100% promise it would, since I wouldnt have bought it otherwise... so still in the waiting for them to 'sort' it out.

    :bang:

  6. Dont worry guys! I have a 99RON tescos 10 mins from my house and another 10 mins from my office!

It runs as well (if not better) than when I had my stock ECU in, the only problem I have encountered with it is the immobiliser LED stays on when driving (no biggie)

How much was the nismo ECU? Wondering what to do re my limiter (180km/h), guess the NISMO one has the limiter removed?

yes the nismo is de-restricted. All you need is a HKS SLD. I sold one on Sunday :p

yeah but Id think it was nicer to change the ECU instead of having an HKS hanging out of the already busy place under the dash... :bounce:

Yeah well an aftermarket ECU is definitely nicer but the SLD is a lot cheaper. The HKS SLD is about half the size of an iphone and is inside the dash so you dont ever see it.

    hmmm yeah....

:blackeye: still hoping that Haltech will firmware upgrade their unit to take away the limiter. Might just hit the buy button on an HKS SLD soonish... :drunk:

  9. I think someone else in Ireland has tried this but not on this forum with some success on a SC 350z....

Is it something that will be more available?

Suppose it would be good if you could switch maps when you have the option of getting some! And then back to the normal when you have the 98ron!

    E85? - hope so...

    You dont have the linky?

Got a Haltech ECU which is capable of switching maps on the fly (via a windows O/S)

  10. Really need to go routing up some photos...

SAAB 99 made by Mellberg (restoration project that never really got there...) :D

BMW 320 (drove the sh1t outta that one)

GOLF MK4 (slowest car ever (1.4)...but could take a fair bit of beating!)

Altezza RS200 SXE-10 (first import (car)...nice bit of poke and like the chassi)

Fairlady 350Z (3rd imported car (2nd was a Nissan Figaro but for the gf)

Best car yet :D After a few mods even better performance, cant wait to take her out on track.

To be honest some of my time and monies go into the motorcycles, at some stage Ill have to stop and decide which track to go down since its costing a bit to much with the bike racing at the moment. :bounce:

  11. :teeth:

Hey gc350z, where do you get the Z tuned???

    :snack:

I like mine just as it is. If it weren't for this stupid recession I'd of ordered a 370 but as far as I know Nissan wont be selling them here.

When warranty runs out next year I might start adding parts. I'm yet to be recommended a good tuning shop. Even Nissan dealers aren't the best. Last service I noticed, based on dirty finger prints, that they only check one of the filters in the intakes.

    Where do you take yours?

    PM on the way!
