Definitely try the citrus route! Orange peels are good too, just leave then around where you don't want puss visiting! They are the best things to try. A good soaking is an idea but you have to get it before it goes near the car or the claws will be out!

There are quite a few clean freaks around and they (or should that be we???) could offer many mega bucks solutions. My own preference for silver is Jeffs Werkstat Acrylic. Never seen anything that works better on silver. I know it's available at polished bliss but there might be other stockists too.
