NorthWest-NorthWales Sunday drive + Ice cream!
Chesterfield replied to Jacko's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
Hmmm I have brown hair and am curvy. Just like the Michelin man. You dont have to make a rod for your own back, anyone who fancies organising meets in their regional area can become a meets organiser. If anyone is interested in sorting out regular (or irregular) meets in their area, let us know. People who want to attend a meet could then contact that particular person for their area for info, instead of having the admins or mods try and organise the entire UK. -
A littlw searching on the net provided these figures... Sorry, no figures on the Miltek. Legal Limit in the UK is 110db as far as I can see from various parts on the web. NorthWest-NorthWales Sunday drive + Ice cream!
Chesterfield replied to Jacko's topic in Meets, Shows and Events
Well if there are 15 cars attending, it would be rude of me not to attend, its only a trip over the snake pass to Manchester for me. So - who wants the title of NW meets organiser? -
Oi, I have a MK4 golf... Though mine still has all its standard parts in tact!

As far as I am aware the LED lights can be retro fitted, but there is some confusion over whether the wiring clips will need modification. Even if the wiring clips need slight changes made, or complete cutting and refitting, the job should be relatively straight forward. I too have my eyes on a set of these LED lights, but I have yet to see a set in the flesh, so will reserve judgement. Some LED lights can look a bit naff in my opinion, while others really do look nice. If I like them, then a set will be going on mine at some point.

You certainly know your oil! Thats some good info. I suppose thats why my oil pressure is quite high if the revs go over 3500 inside the first few minutes of driving - i.e. before it warms up thoroughly, Once its warm, the pressure gauge does not regsiter as high during acceleration.

I hope the following post will provide people with an insight into how this site came to exist, and the reasons for its existence. It may be long, but I hope that if people take the time to read it, they will gain an understanding of our community, and how it came to be. Please dont let this thread turn into another keyboard war, so far it has been a great discussion, perhaps one of the most reasoned discussions of this issue for some time. Anyway, here goes.... I don't proffess to know the "goals" of the other side, so cannot state whether we are heading toward different ones to the other site or not. I can simply speak for this site. There seems to be some train of thought by people on both sites that 350z-uk.com was created with the sole purpose being competition or as grounds for a battle. It wasn't. This site was originally created by myself, on my own lowly personal webspce that I got free with my ISP. It wasn't even called 350z-uk.com. In fact I couldnt think of a name for it. So there was no logo or name. LOL. I had created a forum on my personal web space as a personal challenge to understand phpbb, and how to manage a forum. It was only due to the fact that I had recently purchased a 350z that I decided to try and theme it around my car. Had I decided to learn phpbb a few months earlier, it could very well have been about decking. I became member of the "old" 350Z site just a few weeks before it closed. I had owned the car about a week when it finally closed. I did read the posts and arguments for and against an "owners" club, where people would have to pay to be a "full" member. I personally had, or at least the missus had, been a member of the MX-5 owners club previously, and to be honest we werent all that impressed with what we got. Sure it was only a few quid, but Im just one of those people that wants the moon on a stick, for the price of a lollipop. So I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of a paying club. Now I'm not stating that the 350Z owners club would or will turn out to be the same. Had my experience of the MX-5 club been very positive, then my feelings would have probably been different, but we all draw assumptions in life from our previous experiences, so thats what I did. I was quite dissapointed at this point, because I had been (and still am) a member of www.uk-mkivs.net for my VW Golf. A great forum, with discounts, meets, trips to the nurburgring etc etc.. and it was all available for free. Therefore I had really been overjoyed when I found that there was a similar forum for my newly bought Z, though when I found out about its pending closure, and rebirth as a paying members club, my experience of the MX-5 owners club just made me feel like the rug had been pulled from under my feet just as I had bought my new Z. Therefore I became a recluse for a while, working on my own site, and I emailed someone else that was upset at the old site closure to see if they wanted to help with my forum. I thought it was a daft idea. It would never work. Of course people would follow the crowd, and my site would be nothing more than a personal hobby, and full of my own posts about "where I went with my Z today". But then something strange happened. Someone else joined. Then another. And another.. This cant carry on I thought. Why are all thes people joining? My site is rubbish, theres only five of us.. Then more.. and more.. Soon I needed to ask one of the first who joined if they wanted to help me manage it, and they did. We then decided that as people were joining we needed a name, and it was decided that we needed something short, and yes, it was similar to the old name, but people thought that this didn't really matter, the name represented what we were. Which at the time was a group of about 20 owners or enthusiasts. Thats it I thought, a small group of people who may one day drift off, or decide they want to be part of the new paying club that had been set up. Then it continued to grow. We had to move to a host we need to pay for, and people offered to pay for it! Then we moved again and more people offered to chip in. The rest, as they say, is history. I never thought this place would attract as many members as we have, and it continues to gain more every day. It seems that what has been created is a site that people enjoy. Something I feel proud of, and Im sure the other Moderators and Admins do too. It was never created for the sole purpose of competition or as a platform to start arguments from. It was created by a group of people who wanted to share with others their suport and enjoyment of what is a fantastic car. It now transpires there are quite a number of those people who want to do the same! So there you go. Thats how this place was born. Some may say I created a monster, others may want to give me a hug for doing it (though if you see me you wont!). It now looks the way it does because of help from lots of others, a true group effort. Whatever your stance on our existence, it is here because of continued input from the people who have given their time to post here. It is down to each and every person that has ever taken the time to make a post on this board that we continue to grow. For my part, I thank you all, it is great to see this site continue to grow, and continue to gain more benefits for those that have taken the time to sign up. I look forward to a great future and sharing my enjoyment of the best car Ive ever bought with like minded individuals, whatever communities they are part of. Chris.

LOL. Makes you wonder just how much you need to know about a particular car before some magazne will let you write an article for them.
-
Youll be wanting a name change on your account then! LOL. Congratulations on your order! You will love it Im sure. When is the delivery date?
-
Looking at the plan, we will only be able to take another 2 cars maximum. First two who shout up get the last show stand spaces.. Sorry, cant say fairer than that...
-
Crikey, I wouldnt have even attempted that. Im amazed a bike fits. I seriously doubt my bike would fit ina Z, its a Kona Hoss. (Made for those who arent afraid of carbs apparently) As above, I would have presumed a bike rack (one made for cars without tow brackets) would have been a better option and less hastle? Although I am always wary of those racks that rest on the glass of the rear window, especially as the glass on the Z is at such an angle.

Thanks. I'll look into them. I do want a good job doing so probably best to speak to the pro's in that area. Also, when I first bought the car, there were a couple of bad scratches on it and the dealers body shop made a fantastic job. So much so that I have washed the car and inspected it from a distance of about 6 inches, and still cant see where they were. Perhaps they could do it? Ill get a photo up of the damage and see what people think. I have no experience of chipsaway or dent wizzard etc, but my Golf has a few bits that could do with attending to, and the Z is strting to pick up a few chips, and this nice dent/scuff.
-
Do these people do door knocks too? I have a little "ding" in mine where some arse has opened the door onto the side of the Z and dented & scratched it.

"View posts since last visit" isn't quite enough
Chesterfield replied to WoREoD's topic in Forum IT Issues & Bug Reporting
Thats a good point. I think there are a few options that could be explored. One is the time option as you mention, and another is perhaps keeping all unread post marks until you actually read the post or "mark all topics to read". I have found this same issue a few times also. Its certainly something that we can look into. Thanks, Chris. -
Unfortuately not -its the price we have to pay using software that wasnt written in a country that observes British Summer Time If a fix does appear, we will get it put in.
-
Yep. If the clock is wrong for you, then you will need to change the timezone in your profile to GMT+1. Unfortunatley we cant do this en mass for all users, as it would make a mess of the time for members from outside the UK. Its a bit of a pain, but just treat it as another clock in the house that needs doing. I still keep finding them! LOL.

Somebody must have stuck the Z badges above my indicator repeaters then.

Thats some cracking technical info. I still think that for the majority of day to day driving, the changes will not be noticeable though. The 300HP figure makes very good "pub" talk, while the changes needed to ensure reliability at that figure allow Nissan to blow warm air up the techies skirts too. A win win situation. All in all the differences between the two models are relatively minor, so for me it came down to price vs benefits. The 0-60 time coming down is not good though. Surely Nissan want to make sure that those traffic light grand prix's take as long as possible for competitors owners to see just what they are missing out on. LOL.

Greets from a southern wannabe Z owner
Chesterfield replied to codlord's topic in Introductions & Welcome Messages
Hi, welcome aboard! I looked at an FTO a few years ago, but I wasn't as flush back then so the insurance and associated costs made it a non starter for me. Cracking motors, and have some great looks too. Im sure you will find a Z that fits your criterea. Have you taken any out for a test yet to compare? -
Val, will you be able to send the info to the three of us joining you on the stand? i.e. the times we need to be there, area allocated for the stand/pitch etc.
-
Is that four show cars for the weekend then? Is there room/time to add any others? PS - you havent marked yourself down as paid Val
-
These milteks certainly seem popular, and from what Ive heard of Vals and Lomoto's they sound great.. I think one will have to go on my shopping list very soon. Great to see yet another owner sign up - welcome to the community, and dont forget if you spot anything you think may be useful on the forum, let us know in the suggestions area and we'll get straight on it. Im looking forward to the sumer season meets - that way I can put the roof down and not look an idiot.
-
Just a thought, and I could be talking rubbish, but... Couldn't you just get a UK front bumper (with the holes for the headlamp washers) and then stick the headlamp washer covers over the holes? Obviously they wont work, but it gets around the problem of holes or a pig of a job getting the JDM bumper.
-
Im not bothered about the phone controls, I want it for the stereo controls. Also strange how the pre 06 JDM roadsters have the phone/radio controls, but not the UK cars. If it caused an issue with the roof, then you would think all roadsters would have come without the radio/phone controls, not just the UK models. As with most cars, the wiring will probably be there, just not utilised. I just need to find the time to go through the info I have and figure out how to get the relevant section of the wheel off without getting a face full of airbag.

This is a question I ran through my head when deciding on the purchase. Having the "new" version is always something that I like. However, as the differences are fairly minor, it came down to the price and the associated benefits of that cost. as far as the new engine is concerned, it loses torque, but gains BHP. As someone who will probably never take it on a track day, or use all the power the car has to offer, the 300bhp was just a "pub" figure for me. I was happy with 280. With a few tweaks I reckon I could get 300 anyway, but will need to invest in a UTEC or similar if I want to keep the 300. The interior differences are minor, and having had a look at the retrim that Val has had done for less than a grand, I am confident that if I wanted it, I could have a much nicer interior than any factory spec, old or new. The exterior differences are also minor. The only two that really interested me were the rear lights and the dual front xenon lights. I have not seen the new rear lights in the flesh, and so am unsure whether they are an improvement or not. I like the style of some cars rear LED lights, BMW for instance I think are quite nicely designed, but then there are others that look "chav" in my opinion - peugeot 307 LED rears for instance dont have the same look. If the new lights look nice on the Z, Ill get a set, if they don't, I wont. As or the price, I got my car at 4.5 months old, and for £4k less than the price I could buy a new one at. Yes mine will depreciate due to the new model coming out, but give it 2 or 3 years, the difference between mine and an 06 model of similar age, Im confident will be much less than £4k. Therefore the differences in my opinion, were not enough to push me to wait for a new model and spend an extra £4k. The money Ive saved on not buying an 06 model can be spent on an exhaust, and other mods if I feel the urge too. At the end of the day its personal prefference. Is the extra cost and wait for an 06 model worth it as far as the additions/changes and the "newness" is concerned. I had to think about it for a few weeks, and went for a nearly new 05, knowing full well that a new model was on the way. Had the new model been a different shape/style alltogether, then I would have gone for new. But as, to the untrained eye the new model looked almost exactly the same as the 05, I stuck with that. The on thing tht does annoy me is the fact that Nissan have decided to add the stereo and phone controls to the roadster models on the 06. They were left off the 05 roadsters for some reason? I just need to source the parts and retro fit this though, which will provide me with some fun, so its not all bad. Whichever one you decide on, you'll be making a great choice. Sure there are little niggles, but hasn't every car got them? But every car can't put a smile on your face like the Z, and not at the Z's price.
