  1. MX-5 too. Tracy used to have one, and I thought it was a great car to drive. I did get accused of driving a "girls car" when I was out and about in it, but it was a bloody good drive. There are quite a few women signing up to the site, which is good. I think for quite a long time car clubs have been considered to be mainly old blokes with moustaches standing round in wax jackets talking about their cars. Then it was the "boy racer" era when it was loads of young spotty teenage lads hanging around in car parks talking abou their stereos and suspension. I think we have come a long way, and its great to see so many women owners/drivers joining up . You'll be in good company if you attend a meet, Vik for one will certainly show you how to deal with any pests And I think Nixy has threatened to slap more than one
  2. Has anyone done one of these VXR driving events before? http://buyvxrpowerevents.co.uk/index.ph ... vent_id=42 A couple of colleagues at work and myself are going - so wondered if anyone had any reviews? Im hoping it may give me the bug to get something track related as a hobby
  3. Raceforlife.org While the above is a very good cause, I see no logical reason to have it as women only. Surely they would raise even more if it were unisex. The masons have to be secretive - if they were openly promoting it as a men only organisation, it would get slapped down by the PC brigade. But you can shout from the rooftops about women only organisations, and thats perfectly fine.
  4. Tidied as requested Vik - sub 5 post members PMs should be back to normal now.
  5. If they are proper LSD doors, then they also open normally too. Then when you have your car at a show, you can do the show car thing and have the doors up.
  6. Get on the waiting list for an Aventador Spyder - then you can have a couple of years to bring the missus round to thinking its a good idea
  7. Im going to don my flame suit here.. I thought Frieds was great I had all 10 series on VHS - and may one day sit through them all again on DVD. The storylines can be predictable, the guest appearances are funny to see and some of the jokes/funny moments made me laugh out loud at times. [flamesuiton]
  8. Have not found anything on reg transfers or the like to state they do this, so may be worth an email to them asking the question. Ill let you know what response I get back if any.
  9. Hi All - I believe cookie is now away possibly in the US gaining his pilots license from what I recall. I doubt if he will be able to make these going forward. Im sure if and when he returns he may be able to assist with parts lists etc for those wanting a system. You may also find as technology moves on the next generation of in car entertainment will be developed..
  10. Raising an old thread, but has anyone any experience in tracking down the owner of, and making an offer on, a plate that is already registered somewhere out there. I would ideally like a plate that would make a "set" for me, but unfortunately I missed it when it was for sale from the DVLA, and I would ideally like to make an offer on it and see if the current owner wants to make a quick profit. Anyone ever done this?
  11. Let them go for it, hope they dont wipe me or anyone else I care about out on the next bend.
  12. No, actual real golf One on Friday was pretty dry, Luckily it was only drizzle till about 1.30pm here so got a round in this morning - still a bit on the wet side though
  13. Still managed to squeeze a couple of round of golf in. so not all bad
  14. Hi and Apologies you did not receive your confirmation email, it was a symptom of much larger hidden issues on the forum, all fixed now I hope. Enjoy the club
  15. All should be back to normal now. Very sorry for the days outage. Im a little tired, so will keep it as brief as possible: The software that runs the control panel for the server auto updated a component, which in itself did not break the forum, however it did stop some functionality of the server. The most noteable was the Email functionality, hence the large number of people not receiving confirmation emails when signing up, or indeed notification emails for PM's or subscribed topics. The forum itself was still functioning running on files based in memory, when the server was restarted as part of trying to rectify the email fault, those files residing in memory were no longer present and the auto update had messed them up, so the whole system, database and control panel would not start. The update also screwed up files that controled the ability to roll back the changes to the backup taken Saturday morning. However a lot of trial and error managed to get enough functionality back to do another full backup, which at least meant if the worst case scenario of rebuilding the server were to happen, we could get back to where we were pretty quickly. However that scenario didn't appear, and all is now well again, hopefully... Thanks again for your patience, and please accept the teams apologies for the outage. If you notice anything not quite woring as it should, please let one of the team know. Regards, Chris.
  16. If that was nearer me, then I'd be very, very, tempted with that.
  17. Value for money is all relative is what Ive come to learn during my forray into cctv. Will a £200 maplin system do the job you need? Possibly, possibly not. It all depends what that job is. For example, if the job is watching casino tables for people being clever with chips etc, then high resolution high frame rate will be what you want. Which innevitably comes with high cost. If the job is basic home security and a deterrent, then yes it probably will do the job. At long distance if its only D1 resolution then you aren't going to get much by the way of facial recognition, but if thats not what you are after then it may be fine. As with all the systems though no matter what you spend, you will find the warning signs and the sight of what looks to be a camera does the majority of the work, you then also have to ask if having a cctv system makes the burglar type specifically target your house rather than avoid it. Afterall if you have CCTV then surely you have something inside worth protecting... That could be the train of thought of the crook just as easily as "Ill skip that one, they've got cameras". You can go up to very big money on cameras, but you dont always get what you pay for, and you always need to look at the spec. For example, a £1300 camera certainly has the price tag of an expensive setup, but from what I can see (using mobotix as an eample), comes with a lens that is minimum 22mm, which means it has to be sited fairly far back to cover a wide area, and although its 3 megapixel, siting it further back to fit a wider field of vision in, could be an inconvenience. You can get 5 megapixel outdoor vandal proof cameras with 6mm lenses for under £700. But (again imho) you are looking at the top end of "home" security when you start going down the ip camera route and looking at cameras of that price. As for night vision, you have two choices - cameras with in built IR, or lighting the subject area yourself. From my limited research ive found that cameras with built in IR are good enough for short distances and internal type scenarios, but if its your drive and the outdoors you want covering, then external lighting will always be better. You then have the choice of going with visible light (floodlights etc) or infrared floodlights. IR floodlights are expensive to buy, cheap to run, and dont annoy the neighbours - but also wont put off a pottential burglar, as they cant see they are lit up like a christmas tree. Normal floodlights are cheap to buy, but more expensive to run, could annoy your neighbours if left on all night, but will be a detarrent to a burgalr that doesnt want to be spotted. Another point. I thought it would be cool to have a PTZ (pan tilt zoom) camera. However unless you are going to employ a security guard, then the camera will only record what its pointed at. So if its not pointed in the right direction at the time of an event, its useless. So I went down the route of higher resolution cameras recording the whole area, meaning I can zoom in after the event and dont need to worry about the camera not being pointed in the right direction at the time of any movement. Im still not happy with the focus on one of my cameras, as its a manual focus and zoom job its hard to get right while up a ladder looking at an ipad. The remote zoom and focus cameras are a lot better imho. In short, you can spend as much or as little as you like, but results may vary. If you go the IP route, expect big price tags, and a bit of time setting up. Think about where you want to cover, and where you would gain entry if you were a burglar - would you walk up to the front door, or the back door? or a large window thats just a smash and grab away from your plasma tv etc etc.. Heres an example of one of mine on the front. Day and night and zoomed in AFTER recording. (this is the one im not too happy with the focus of) Night normal & zoomed: Day normal & Zoomed
  18. Ive known about police using unmarked HGV's for some time. Saw it on one of those cops with cameras style shows some years ago. They use them in order to spot bad driving habits of HGV drivers, that usually cant be seen from the lower vehicles. Reading the paper, watching TV etc..
  19. Funnily enough my research has led me to either the Theoben Rapid 2 or the Weihrauch HW 100 or 101. The 101 is a good chunk cheaper but is a single shot (not that bothered about a magazine anyway). Rather than having my own bottle filling equipment, I gather I can use a manual pump, which will obviousy take a lot more work, but with a charge capable of doing up to 400 shots or 120 ish on the Weihrauch then Ill not be doing it too often at all.
  20. Hi, Completely fed up with the magpies turning the nests inside out of the little garden birds we have. So am looking for an air rifle that will turn a magpie inside out from about 120ft. At present I have a co2 powered rifle (the type that uses two small cylinders). Its a bit long in the tooth. I bought it second hand and have fine tuned the scopes to the best of my ability, but it feels a bit down on power compared to one I remember having many years ago (which was still within the 12lb limit). Im wondering if a pre charged one would be better - as I often leave the gun for long periods of time without using it and the pressure of the co2 seems to drop off a bit. Maybe get about 20 hots out of the thing before I start to feel the power dropping off. Does anyone have any experience with these things, and can you provide any advice on what I can get? Im after maximum power and maximum accuracy. End a magpies days from 120ft and maybe something like pneumatic pre charged or whatever offers the most power. Any advice and suggestions - including where to buy from and what scopes etc very much appreciated.
  21. Not wishing to offend, but what attracted you to the car in the first place? What I mean by this is that the qualities of the car that made you buy it, probably still remain. Looks, affordability, sportyness when you want it etc etc. Alternatively, what would you get instead, and would it make you smile as much?
  22. Nope - never felt it has too much power for the roads. It can have too much for cirtain circumstances and conditions, but can you ever have too much? Dont EVER work out your pence per mile cost in terms of depreciation/fuel/tax on a sports car. You won't like it. Sometimes you will think that its a big waste of money, but when you get to drive it on the open road, it will all make sense again. If driving your car (whatever it is) on the open road on a sunny summers day doesnt make you smile, thats when you know you've got the wrong car.
  23. When we had a roadster we used it for stuff that wouldnt get upset if it got squashed accidentally and also wouldnt upset the mechanism. Sleeping bags, pillows, soft sports bags etc. The tardis on the roadster is really quite useful.
  24. So what if its an ice rink? It just exagerates how effective propper tyres for the condtions are. In the wet, then the zed, on summer/sport tyres, at 60mph will have less grip than a 4wd vehicle equiped with the appropriate tyres. Choose to accept what you want. Have we heard what the conditions were when this chap "almost binned it"? If it was a bone dry summer day, then something may be amiss.
  25. And if its cold and wet, what then? Summer tyres on a cold wet surface in a bend will be far worse than winter tyres in those same conditions. Heres a nice example of a car in slippy conditions with just tyres making the difference. It really shows just how much of an impact the type of rubber has on the handling of a vehicle: check out 2:19 onward for the tests on a bend.
